My favorite bass player ever. Really, really elevates the songs and he’s felt everywhere in their music without drawing attention away from anything else. Definition of a great bass player.
Very well done, and worth the wait. So glad you included so many songs from Because of the Times. It’s their best album and every song has an interesting bass line. He’s not very flashy but he is fun to listen to, and that’s what’s most important.
Awesome video! However, as a Kings of Leon admirer since 2004, having attended two gigs of them here in Brazil and also a bass player who have played Kings of Leon and other alternative (plus indie rock) stuffs at venues and pubs in many cities in my state between 2013 and 2017, I suggest you some corrections: • First time you exemplified 'Family Tree' bassline, you played it different from the original (without the E and A open strings parts alternated) => you played it correctly the 2nd time, although using a different fretboard path; • At the 5th chorus' bar part (of 8 bars) in 'Revelry', you misunderstood playing an A on 12th fret, while it follows the pentatonic of E, which is E > Fm# > [Gm#] the note you should have played at the 11th; • 'Closer' atmospheric effects ain't a delay (for God's sake, man! 😅). It was recorded with a BOSS ME-50 Guitar effects (while on live performances Jared uses the BOSS ME-50B, the correspondent pedalboard for bass, which delivers well, including this effect). => It's a Pitch Shifter effect seasoned with a smoothly used Reverb while doing an up-and-down octaves footing the expression pedal. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 and keep doing your well done job, man!
Dude you should check out some of Walter Gervers bass lines from the Foals. He would make an incredible bass habits episode, some ingenious bass playing right there!!
