Hello . What resources (books , dvds , etc. ) would you recommend to get the oasis sound and develop the needed theory to write similar sounding songs ? Thx
Thank you, that's very kind, the more people like yourself that enjoy them the more they will get seen (fingers crossed). I am really hoping the channel does grow so I can make more videos like this. If there's anyone you think would be good to cover in this series, please feel free to let me know.
Wow! That is truly high praise indeed, I love Rick Beato. There will be a lot more videos like this coming soon, had to take a highatus for a few months for family reasons. Very much looking forward to returning. Thank you so much for the lovely comment, it really means a lot.
Thank you, that’s really appreciated. Really glad you enjoyed it. Gonna be making more like this and another new series in the pipeline so stick around hope you’ll like them too 👍🏼🎸
Thank you very much. I'm sure it will grow as long as I try my best to make good videos and improving. My goal is to improve with every video and to keep at it. It really means a lot to know that people like yourself are enjoying them. Got some good ones in the pipeline but might be a week or 2
Exactly my friend, that’s the reason there is no fancy guitar playing in this lesson, just common songwriting tips that Noel uses in his songwriting. Oasis were never about fancy guitar work. These topics in this video will definitely help aspiring songwriters by adding some cool ideas to there songwriting arsenal. That’s for watching mate, it really is appreciated 👍🏼🎸
@@rizvanxd8724 definitely! I love Radiohead. There’s a lot more going on in these bands so I’ll have to focus on more specific elements and not be as broad as in this and some of the other ‘in the style’ of videos. Great suggestions! 👍🏼🎸
Check out the new 'In the Style of' lesson This one is about Ed Sheeran and has some great tips you can use ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YHxeX_RmImg.html
I'm trying to follow this video and write original songs that have a tint of Noel Gallagher's style but every time it do it always sounds like a pre-existing oasis song... any tips? i was writing a song in the key of Em and i decided the verse would be Em-A7sus-G,Em-A7sus-A7, and the chords C-G-D-Em (ending the chorus with B7 because of the Secondary Dominant Chord tip). aaand its basically supersonic but worse
Hi mate, sorry for late reply, been increbibly busy. That's a pain but awesome that your using the secondary dominant tip. It sounds to me like you maybe trying to use too many of the same chords that Noel uses in his songs, which will be why its sounding just like a noel song. I'd say try changing a few of the chords. Maybe try taking inspiration from another band as well and try mixng up the chord progressions to make a bit of a hybrid progression. You are using chords from the key of G, so maybe try find another song you like by a different band (preferable in the same key) and try using some chord ideas from there song and mash them together. As long as it sounds good of course. Alternatively I can recomend some different chords that you can replace what you already have with... A7sus4 will change to Am or Am7 nicely, maybe even using Asus2 would have a different flavour and should still work, this might actually work really well ad I can't think of noal using many sus2 chords. Might not work but you could try changing the C in the chorus to an F, this will use the flat 7 major tip but this might not have the sound you are after. Hope this helps a bit and hasn't been to waffly
Yeah, good point the F can be a real pain in the .... If you play in G you have the chords G Am Bm C D Em. That will get rid of the dreaded F. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Feel free to ask any questions 👍🏼🎸
Where in England are you from? I’m trying to practice identifying accents. If I had to guess I’m guessing Northern, with my best guesses being Yorkshire or Leeds.
@@mikebibby20101 How have you gained your knowledge of regional northern England accents, it's very impressive. That's great, can't believe my video has been viewed so far away!
Dave's Guitar Club Thank you! Really it started off just noticing the differences in the accents of my favorite English bands. The Beatles from Liverpool, Oasis from Manchester and Arctic Monkeys from Sheffield. Everyone knows what a southern accent sounds like because it’s just so prominent in media even here in the states. As far as picking your’s out, it was different from what I’d heard before but it sounded like halfway between Yorkshire and Manchester, so I just guessed somewhere in between. I’m really surprised to have gotten it so accurate honestly and thank you for obliging me lol.
Awesome video!!! I was searching for these cool progressions for my own songs. Even if Oasis' songs are in fact really easy, the things behind the arrangment are actually really interesting!! Thanks
Could you make a video on Alex Turner / the arctic monkeys but how to make similar music to their first 2 albums whatever people say I am that’s what I’m not and favourite worst nightmare
@@DaveyH Nice. Yeah that is a good one forsure, but if I were to do a video on him I’d look mostly at his stuff he did with The Smiths. But that’s just me. He’s my absolute favorite guitarist, and if you ask me, what he was doing then was his most innovative and “signature” playing he’s done to this day, although he has done other great stuff since.
That would scare the absolute shit out of me. I can already hear him saying, “what the f**ks he on about, it’s rock and roll man.” haha👍🏼🎸 Thanks for watching pal
Hey Davey, great to find your channel. Very informative video and having been a Oasis fan so long (he got me started) this was great! Went into lots of depth and great for anyone wanting to get into his style of writing.
Find someone who has been playing for about 6 months to a year and then get a couple of lessons from them. You should then be able to play anything Noel has ever played. 5 chords should see you through the entire Oasis repertoire. He is a far better writer than a player.
l used to think EVH and Yngwie were fine guitarists, until I heard Noel riffing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a couple of solos. Pretty sure EVH doesn't build his solos around the theme of "Old MacDonald had a Farm", like Noel can. James Hetfield actually learned his strum pattern from Noel.
@@DaveyH I'd say the vocal melodies that liam gets to sing, or his pre choruses! But I dont think Noels writing can hold it's own without Liam and bonehead's sound.
@@rso823 Agree with you but no I think the writing holds up very well on its own even without Liam, just because the melodies so strong. I’m not saying Liam doesn’t make each song 20 times better though don’t get it twisted
@@DaveyH Hull - recognised the accent, lol. :) I'm stuck playing the same old minor pentatonic licks, it'd be cool if you do something similar about Noel's lead playing.
Hahaha that's very likely, it's more likely he has learned songs from his favourite artists and used things that they have done in there songs, but made them his own and put his own stamp on them. The beatles used an awful lot of the things Noel does and it's pretty obvious he's a huge beatles fan. To be fair even if he doesn't know what he's doing he's written some absolute classics...so doesn't matter. Thanks for watching! I hope you got something out of it and if there's anyone you would like to suggest to look at for the series, please feel free.
I'm pretty sure it uses an Am7 not A7. I'll have to rewatch the video to check what I said but if I said Am instead of Am7 I do apologise, there was a lot of topics to discuss in this video and it wasn't intended to be a lesson on how to play any songs just an analysis on common themes within songs and some general theory behind the concepts. Thanks for watching, it's much appreciated.
