James Ernest of Crab Fragment Labs explains the rules to Linos, "the Game of Twelve Stones."
Linos is meant to be an ancient lost game from a fantasy universe, using just twelve pieces and a 6-sided die. The game is still in playtest at Crab Fragment Labs, so these are not necessarily the final rules, but they are close.
The goal is to score the most points by playing connected pieces of opposite colors. Pieces are stacked on a platform, or "basket," of 3 x 4 squares. Playing higher in the stack can be worth more points, as can "royal" moves, which are allowed only when there are no other options.
You can download the latest rules to Linos from Crab Fragment Labs. Visit us often to follow our progress as we develop the rules and the fiction around the game.

One variant I could possibly see be interesting is that it'd be about reaching a specific amount of points and once the pieces are used up you can pick up any free piece and place them somewhere else for extra points.

We are actually working on a slightly different scoring variation. It doesn't free up extra pieces, but it does increase the value of moves beyond a certain threshold. More to follow once we've done some more testing.

I haven't been able to play this one, but looks like it hits the sweet spot of quick & dirty but not mindless. I originally didn't understand why you wouldn't just draw from a bag, but seeing the line and playing the odds look to add an interesting dimension to decision making. I'll be following this one closely.

I already handmade a set and started playing about a month back. It's a great little game. Gets a lot of points for being unique. I like that your games contain 3D elements such as the height being multipliers in this game or the stacks in Tak. My only criticism is the fact you have to keep score with a pen and paper. That slightly tarnished the elegance and portability of it. Any way to develop a point scoring system with maybe a few extra dice?

Thanks! Yeah, I seem to like stacking games. We're about to post yet another one, Prudh.

Actually extremely easy to print-and-play just need a 3D Printer. Mine's currently at it, can't wait to try it out :D

Haha yes if you count fabricating as "printing" then yeah, it's easy, and it doesn't exactly require a complicated model. I don't have a 3D printer yet because I have a wood shop and Legos.

@@CheapassJames Sadly the wood shop is a bit out of reach for me. Maybe someday :D

This game might play out interestngly if royal moves gave you negative points intead of them just being illegal.

Sure. In that scenario it would be more clear that locking the board is good for you, instead of the current game where you have to force your opponent to lock it.
