this guy is so sweet and wholesome and he does a really great job of actually teaching how to play each part. now i can play it all perfectly! so grateful :))
hi, thanks for letting me know, i upgraded my recording equipment in recent vids, should be better for you... plus there's now a camera on my bass foot
I know this video is like three years old, but I really appreciate the thoroughness with which you teach! Some people just throw up the sheet music and go through an example of how it sounds, but you really take your time and help visualize every sequence. Keep up the awesome work, man!
Him playing calmly actually helps people new to drums rather than bang the shit out of them quick and in a hurry. It's hard to watch if you are a drummer but I look at his video from a new players mind. Very simple, calm and easy to keep up with
Hey everyone!! I just wanted to make a public response, there's been several comments about how soft I hit the cymbals. I NORMALLY don't hit that softly, This being my 1st video I didn't have a good audio set up, & if I crashed too loud it would peak out the mic. Now that's resolved and continuing to improve and upgrade audio! :) Thanks guys for watching! Have Fun STAY AWESOME, & Rock on!
Nah man, I CAN play right handed and lead with my right if I want, or play right handed and lead with my left as well as open, it makes no difference to me! I just switch up depending how I feel or what I'm playing
Like the video breakdown. You are def the Bob Ross of drum teachers. I like your calmness. In a world of chaos and everyone rushing around it’s refreshing
I started about 3 weeks ago. Always wanted to do Smells like teen spirit cause it looked to be pretty simple drum wise. The beats looked to be pretty simple and straightforward. Coming here to this, I've never been more wrong in my life. That bass looks a right pain in the ass. Reckon it'll take me around 3 months to get the hang of it, or maybe more. Fml
thanks guys :) because I want to start playing drums and when I go to guitar center to try out a kit I try to play teen spirit and i cant stay on beat with the bass drum but I can do all the other stuff
Thanks for this. Ignore the folks complaining that you’re playing too calmly. This is about teaching people how to play the songs, and you’re doing a great job at that. The calmer and slower, the better. I’m about to put my wife on the drums in our family garage band; this should help her learn. You just got a new subscriber. Keep it up.
I'm looking to learn drums but am unfortunately not allowed a real drum kit in my apartment for noise issues, so I was wondering if this is all completely compatible crossing over to electric drums? Living the tutorial by the way :-)
awesome you're wanting to learn!!... yes you can use an electronic set and learn just as well as if you were on a real drum set. Be sure to sign up for a free class when you get your set, or even before and just use mouse pads or buckets!!
The Drum Professor well, i understand that the sequence is snare-kick-hihat-kick and then repeat, and i can execute it slowly, but when i add speed to it, i start to snare and kick at the same time. Is there any excersise that i can do to correct that? (it happens to me with other similar fills)
Great question.... I have the perfect solution to this, it would be far easier to understand and to explain if we do a free lesson.. Why don't you schedule one with me and I can show you?
Great!!... go to my website and fill out a request form for the lesson **you can also schedule in the lesson there are times provided** If no time works for you just let me know and we can pick a time and day that does :)
Some people mention he's not drumming that actively or excitedly, but you know that's actually good! It's better to drum with control and use your wrists to spare energy
This is the right way to teach how to play this song, you can’t expect him to beat the hell outta the drums like Grohl did, you have to start out slow, especially if beginners are watching.
Wow. I only have my little kit for 6 months and was staring at the score for this one since then ... You break it down in a way that I can actually practice it. Great work ! Thank you very much !
None of my pots were harmed in the practicing of this riff....(I’m used to guitar so I call it a riff but I have no clue if it’s something different on drums.)
i don't have any kit.. yeah i wana learn this song so..i play it on couch and play bass with my bare foot.idk when I will get my drums. ahhhh but yeah ..thankyou for your lesson
Hey man I love your videos and it helps me a lot can you do a video on "How to play No More Sorrow" By Linking Park ?? And also "Light e'm Up" By Fall out Boy ?? Please
Drums is unlike most instruments.. it's all muscle memory, if you can play on pots and pans or mouse pads that are set up similar to how a miniature drum set would be set up, then when you do play on some drums you will have the muscle memory down. think of it like playing on an electronic drum set with no sound.. add sound and they ya go... set something up similar, you'll learn just fine.
thanks! I can possibly do that, my que is pretty long, if you have songs you want done, try to get as many likes on your comment as you can, the ones with the most likes / most popular, I'll do first! :)
Yay I have been playing this wrong for about a year...back to the drawing board. So funny when songs that you play by ear are broken down and you see a tutorial like this and realise oh shit thats what is going on, in saying that nirvana is loud and hard to hear what is exactly being played. Thanks for the reality check. Good lesson.
i just learned how to play the drums bc my band teacher is super cool and plays music like 7 nation army and horse with no name so i want to show him i can play smells like teen spirit
I never struggled with the kick drum part but hitting the crashes with both hands like Grohl did took me a while to get used to. My left hand is my biggest weakness so i started doing everything left handed and its really helping.
So, is bar 4 of this intro (bar 4 of the song, not the drum part) all sixteenth notes with the flam is on the "one", the Hi-hat on the "and", and bass hits on "e" and "a" for each beat?
I will be having videos for sale at some point, till then you're welcome to have a free lesson with me. If interested, email me! I'd love to hear from ya! Jeremy@thedrumprofessor.com
Is their something wrong with me I already liked this song and played it before but my issue is I adapt to playing a song likes it's nothing on drums as soon as I listen to it and put my ear phones on and just play the song it's oddly awesome but is that a normal mindset to a drummer?? I also don't need to look at drum covers or anything to know what I'm doing or any research
nothing wrong at all,... are you playing the correct parts or you're own style? many songs have a much more complex beat than it seems, and it's easy to miss it. If you're not, then thats awesome!
Oh , that's how you do it. I have the drum notation but it just didn't make sense to me. Mine sounded horrible lol thanks drum professor. On a side note my 6 year old son loves that I learned believer from you lol
