This is the quick start way Mom and I play Siamese Mah Jongg®. We have changed two things since watching Gladys Grad's youtube video on Siamese Mah Jongg® set up and play. We now break the wall (like in 4 person MJ) and East uses all their walls before any of the opponent's walls come out. That is the way it's played in Siamese Mah Jongg® tournaments and we plan on being ready!

We're going to play on Wednesday for the first time. Quick question about replacing a joker that your opponent has put up in a mah Jong, can I replace it w/ the correct tile and I take the joker?

Nope. Any Jokers in a Mah Jongg are no longer available to exchange. That’s why you may want to wait before declaring a Mah Jongg. Timing is key and strategic! Have fun!

Newbie mahjongg player here - great video! around <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1060">17:40</a> I see where you’ve got some tiles revealed on racks. (Which I’m assuming was from calling pong and/or kong) Are those (non-joker) tiles “committed” to the specific rack they are on? Follow up question - Is calling chow allowed in Siamese?

Hi Mark. Yes. Once you've exposed a pung (3-tiles) or a kong (4-tiles) and you have placed them on a rack, they must remain there. So make sure, before you expose, that you are placing your exposure on the correct rack. Thanks for the question. Have fun and glad you liked our video!

If during your turn you accidentally expose tiles on the wrong rack, don’t fret you can move them to the other rack…as long as you haven’t discarded. Once you discard your turn is over and your racks and tiles must remain as you placed them.
