I enjoyed this because 15-20bb small stakes tournaments has been my wheelhouse for years now. I spend most of my poker life in these positions. What I learned from this video is that I am probably folding too much in the marginal positions, mostly because I have not been correctly applying long term equity strategy properly. Cheers, good info.

Probably get a lot of hate for this but I love playing a 50bb short stack in cash games. Have had a lot of success using loose passive approach to small pots/and tight aggressive short stack strategy for large pots creating perfect opportunitys to double through and balance my range. Cash players seem to fail to adjust to short stacks at the table.

What does "strengthening your checking range" mean? Like only checking on stronger hands in your range? so like TTs or A9s and folding everything else?

I don’t mind playing short stacked for some reason I feel like I run deeper if i end up short stacked early then later catch up.

I would love to see a video discussing these low equity hands (in 82s, 73s, 63s, etc) postflop!

Noooo. Most people don't take advantage of such good quality content OR like me they try to but don't really understand how to do it.

What does, "checks their entire range" mean?
@PokerCoaching
@PokerCoaching 5 месяцев назад
It means they check with all hands they could potentially have in this spot.

And then when I get down to 5 big blinds, I'll suddenly forget all of this and go all in on the next Ace-Anything, King or Queen Suited anything, or any pocket pair. Well someday I'll get some discipline.

I've read in one of your books that if we have to raise to more than 30% of our stack, it's better to go all in. In the one example here, you say we can raise if he bets 1 bb, but then we put in more than 30% of our stack of our 15bbs. Could you explain?

What about big blind defence less than 10bb?
@yersonroo

i dont get something, in 15:38 you say that we have to bet 50% pot or 30% but then in the next screen you say that we must check more often, can you explain pls, cause i lost my last game for not betting good at shortstack
@PokerCoaching
@PokerCoaching 5 лет назад
50% and 30% are the sizes of the bets, checking more often refers to the frequency that you use these bet sizes. When playing out of position as the raiser, you want to check more frequently because you will be playing out of position against a stronger range.

Example OPP with 15bb: Why do we just call with most A-high flushes? Is it not better with 15 bb to check raise allin to get fold equity? This chart looks very balanced, but in low stakes where i play i dont think a balanced range is the most profetable at all time.

How would you adjust this strategy if there were no antes. Would you defend less due to decrease in equity?
@PokerCoaching
@PokerCoaching 3 года назад
Defend less due to the worse pot odds.

I messaged all my friends an idea I had to "nerf" short stacks in poker last week Basically when players are all in and there is a dry side pot, 1 sb is taken from the main pot and put into the side pot. When players on the side fold, they forfeit the side pot, but their hand is kept and they still qualify to win the main pot. (If there is no dry side pot, players that fold still qualify for the main pot) This takes away most of the advantages short stackers have against big stacks, and rewards players for playing deep and doubling up. You wouldn't see short stack pros nearly as often, and players wouldn't leave the table, simply because they are a monster stack. The way poker is right now, the short stacks benefit from side pot betting, as players that fold on the side are denied equity. That equity is transferred to the players in the hand still, like the short stack. Why should the short stack benefit from players betting on the side?

Cash games only btw. All players have the opportunity to be short stacks in tournament play haha. So it's fair there imo

When we are in the BTN or CO, IP and the agressor opens x2 is profitable call with KJo and QJo as you indicate? If the average of bbs is around 15 and the agressor is not a super loose player I dont think he will open in MP so we can call profitable that hands... as you show in the chart in 10:00

So, according to that last chart KK is not in our range. Ummmmm huh?
@PokerCoaching
@PokerCoaching 5 лет назад
I'm not sure which range you're referring to. It's likely though that KK is just not in your range because it is jammed preflop and not called.

If players are equal and there is no rake, short stacking is far superior to deep stack play, because of game mechanics, especially in PLO and PLO8

Hi, thank you for the great content every week. In general when you have 10BB or less would you ever push tighter than the all in or fold charts suggest and also would you push tighter if there is a limper or limpers in front of you?
@traviscolella7385
@traviscolella7385 4 года назад
I think many push fold charts lack small raises. Especially in the SB you can steal a lot of blinds when the effective stack is shallow playing in small or mid stakes tournaments. Too many players are just trying to survive

How is JJ not in range?
@PokerCoaching
@PokerCoaching 5 лет назад
I'm not sure which range you're referring to. It's likely that JJ is played differently preflop. For example, if you're calling in position with 15bbs, oftentimes JJ will be jammed preflop, so it will not be in your flop range.
