Probably the only person here ever, playing these notes on a keyboard with a 12-string sound on it to get the chords closer to Greg's picking.

You're not the only one! Kurzweil 1000GX- Acoustic 12 String. Greg Lake had the gift. We can only try to copy it....or keep trying. God bless his soul.

A great song is a great song, You can use any sweet synth pad or on the Steinway, it would still turn people on, don't you agree? A song that stands on it's own when accompanied by one instrument and a great vocal are true measure of a great song. Heck, he could sing this acapella and kill it!

This sounds really great compared to Greg playing on a 12 string. Some of the sounds you are hearing up high on the rhythm section at G10 are the octave strings of the 12, I think. Love what you do for us...

Just a suggestion. When explaining a move in conjunction with the next move I like to call it as in the game of Billiards “ shooting for shape”, which is setting up where the que ball stops lining up for the next shot as they set on the table. Guys who play guitar also know Billiards and understand. Thank you for your time and effort’s in doing all these songs. Truly in my arena and you like myself include aspects of playing bass lines as they are arranged, making the song authentic to the recorded version, therefore covering the guitar parts beautifully you are a very accomplished musician sir and I’m glad I found your videos. Oh and the formatting of use of color makes it easy to pick you out from the others. Thank you.

Greg Lake was I think, one of the greatest under rated guitarist/bassist out there. And Lord, what a voice. Keith Emerson his bandmate called him "The Voice", and for good reason, he sang like I'd imagine a angel sings like. Thank you for this lesson. I absolutely love this gorgeous song, even after over 47 years, it's still one of my favorites. I saw California Jam when they aired it on tv and Emerson Lake and Palmer were amazing, but especially Greg Lake, sitting there with his acoustic guitar, chewing gum, swinging his leg, singing his heart out. We don't have great musician's like this anymore and we don't have concerts with multiple bands playing on tv like that anymore either, which is such a shame. Again Thank you for this lesson, you do a wonderful job on it.

This is a great video, and man, you and your guitar sound fantastic. Watching your picking hand on the downward arpeggios and comparing it to Greg Lake's picking, it's apparent that the guy had an extremely efficient economy of motion when he was arpeggiating. It's like he's sweep-picking in slow motion. I think most of us end up doing something closer to a discrete motion for each string.

I remember seeing Deep Purple, Dream Theater, and ELP around the Chicago area back in '98. I've always heard of ELP, but never knew their stuff. When they played I didn't like them but didn't hate them. I was just a bit bored. Fast forward to around 2011 or so, and I came across "Knife Edge" on RU-vid and really dug it. Soon after, I heard other classics like "Lucky Man" and "Still, you turn me on." Great tunes from a great band.

Thanks for showing me how to play this iconic song. I had troubling in the chord change from Dm7add4 to Bm7b5add4. To resolve this I drop my middle finger on G2 just prior to the chord change to simplify it. The A-note is in the arpeggio already so it sounds fine. I saw ELP around this time and this very image is burned in my brain as if it were yesterday. It's so amazing what music does to and for you. My wife and I have her 89 y/o mother with severe alzheimers living with us. And while half the time she forgets her own name, can sing along with every song she's ever known. Hi! Awesome video! Did you lower the action of your guitar by sanding the saddle?

Been playing Beginings for years and noticed a few same chords. This my kind of challenge songs where you don't put the guitar down until you learn it. Even if it takes you 3 hours.
