Wow. He uses chord names instead of the painstaking version of string, fret and finger. And a soothing unoffensive approach.

This was Dire Strait's breakthrough song from my recollection back in the day and in my mind will be the song that defines the band. I've got album on LP, cassette and CD, now digital. One of the best albums IMHO. Mark Knopfler's lead licks on "Down to the Waterline" are so tight, he establishes himself as a guitar great on that track. Great lesson on this classic Andy. Keep 'em coming!

Got a question about your guitar. Has the fretboard been planed and re-fretted? The position markers are bleeding through the binding. I had a guitar shipped to me from Rumble Seat a while back and I returned it because it looked like it had been planed and the position markers were showing through. They swore it was original. Just curious if your guitar has been re-fretted and planed or if you think it is original.

When I saw them in the very early days in a small club (a few weeks before Sultans hit the British charts) Mark Knopfler was playing with very much a flamenco right hand style (ie playing with almost straight fingers) and he did use the rasguedo several times. As with us all his style of playing has since evolved over the years.

This is really really good! Thanks! Now I have no excuse not to learn this. You have it all spread out. I'll start with the rhythm part, then add the fills and hopefully the solo. Thanks, again. Knopfler is sooooo tasty.

Thank you very much for this rhytmic guitar tutorial of S.OS .👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏... Yes, it is necessary to pay homage to David Knopfler genius rhythmic guitarist, as well as to those who succeeded him, and who assured with brilliance the rhythmic part of the legendary Sultan of Swing.
