For guitar players just starting out, strings are numbered from the thinnest (highest pitch) to the thickest (lowest pitch) 123456 (ebgdaE).

My guitar mentor learned Gospel/Blues by ear from following the piano/keyboard praise leader.Tuns out it's the Johnsons...Johnny B. Good ..Johnny Johnson influence...He was from Fairmont WV....right here.....When I put the two together....is when I reaized HOW DEEP and IMPORTANT and SOULFULL his influence was and from where it came from....

They can literally use all 12 notes in one key...All 12 and then notes bent that dont even have a name....I noticed he played mostly out of the major scale and when he heard me throw in the .minor.(u gotta remember..thus guy was pure gospel and iij was a blues player)...he srar

Before I watch anymore of this video, can I please remind you taht going from a C# to a E flat is not diatonic to the C# scale. Where C# is I D# is ii and E# (F) is iii. So your C# to E is a diminsihed chord in the C# Major scale.

If you say the key as Db major, then the use of Eb minor is consistent.

Try this also Db/F to Gb to G dim to Gb)/Ab then Bb to B to C to C# this may be challenging for beginners just thought it might give another perspective...

Thanks so much this really helps!!! Question, how do you turn basic chords into “churchy” chords. I’m learning “It’s All in Him” and I’ve managed to figure out the lead vocal melody and basic chords, but I mostly just practice improving with the major pentatonic scale. That’s cool for now, but I’d really like to take it to the next level with this song. If you get the chance, please help! Lol

A couple things you got wrong. The thinnest string is the first string. The thickest string is the 6th string. Also a triad is only 3 notes. God bless.

Technically according to music theory, yes. But for some reason music outside of the orchestral tradition tends to think in terms of flats. But not always, F# is ii in E and vi in A. Nomenclature yields to common names irl but technically you are correct.

Fwiw, I wish it was called D#. Because since the III is E I don't like having an Eb as well. But as long as this guy can play this well, what he calls something is of secondary importance.

@@dank4254 i agree its not a big deal, its just im thinking c# maj so when i hear e and ii i get confused because im wondering if I missed a modulation somewhere. I am pretty sure the habit of always using flats is a horn thing 'cuz they all transpose to flat keys. but i came up in punk rock so im lucky if i can say "a string, 6th fret" and not get blank looks.
