"The Only Exception" is a song performed by the rock group Paramore. Paramore consists of lead singer Hayley Williams, guitarist Josh Farro, drummer Zac Farro, bassist Jeremy Davis and guitarist Hunter Lamb. The single appears on Paramore's third studio album "Brand New Eyes" and was released in 2010.

seems the actual strumming pattern she is using (in the beginning at least) is: D DUD D DUDU and adding the extra U to the DUD whenevs you get the feel

Like several others I would really love to know the STRUM PATTERN for this. I'm a beginner so it's pretty hard for me to hear it, and the camera doesn't show her strumming while she plays so it's hard to tell.

It should be D UDUD UDU on repeat, since the beat would be 123456 or 123123. So the first down stroke would be on 1, and the upstroke between 2 and 3. if you count out every beat it would be like: *1* and2 *and3and4* and5 *and6and* and repeat (you can hear that at around 1:40 as well) I hope that helps!

Adding to what +Sze Hang Lo Said, I would add small down strums in between so the sound doesn't fade out. So like this: D(d)UDUD(d)UDU. The small d's represent the small strums. This also makes the song more percussive.

What works for me is just a simple DDUDU over every 3 beats. Beat 1 - Down, Beat 2 - DownUp, Beat 3 - DownUp... and repeat over and over lol!

Nathan Edwards pattern is Down DownUp DownUp(and thats 1 2 3) and another Down DownUp DownUP(thats 4 5 6) so Down DownUp DownUp Down DownUp DownUp(123456 six beats.)

first of all...you are the best kind of teacher...one that's actually engaging...i picked this up soo easily and it even sounds like i know what i'm doing haha...side note...i found that when you get to the end of the bridge and you play the dmajor to end it basically, it sounds kind of interesting to add a dminor after it. just a suggestion. again thank you for your help

@sophisticatedskater Paramore uses bar chords but its the same as putting the capo on the fourth. I usually move the capo around until the key sounds right and for this song the fourth fret seems to work the best.
