@@jessetate9701 the instrumental aspects are definitely top notch, especially the drumming, very musically interesting, I just can't stand the singer's voice
Adam Jones is a master at utilizing open strings and chords, especially D, yet creating so many different sounds and motifs without sacrificing simplicity. The complexity is all in the rhythm, time signature, and lack of repetition.
Amazing. I'm right handed but lost 2 fingers in an accident 30 years ago. I've always wanted to learn guitar and learn just a hand full of rock songs for my own amusement. Without having to do the impossible and try and go left handed, this allows me to do so much more than expected. Thanks so much!
i sat here and thought it would be cool to learn The Pot by tool and i should have know Marty would already be on top of it! every song ive ever wanted to learn marty has a video for.
never thought id find this guitar tutorial nevermind by marty!! so awesome, i thought me and my cousin and 1 guy i worked with 5 years ago were the only ones who liked tool this much... HELL YA
When I read your FB post, I was like, I never heard the song, “Tool the Pot!” Wondered who performed it!!😄😄 (sorry, was married to an English teacher). You’re the coolest ever Mr. Marty…
Marty, it looks like you're playing this on your Katana. Is there a patch for the tone you've got for this song? Or maybe you have some tips on how to create a similar tone in the Tone Studio? I have loved this song ever since it first came out when I was in high school!!
I know your comment is super old but look up “The Cathartic Rush” on the guitar patches website. It’s a great reference point to getting a decent Tool tone. After that, you’ll have to do some research and experimenting with it. I’m also trying to find a good Tool tone so if by now you’ve found any, let me know please but anyways, good luck.
Marty man I love ya you’ve helped some much but I just have to say for the main riff you really should break it up into sections and just play them one after another I got so confused and frustrated thank you for the all the help tho
Awesome video, thank you. I’m learning this song on Rocksmith and some parts are just unplayable without knowing the right finger patterns (particularly riff at 20:00). Thanks for showing it, makes sense now. Cheers
Hey Marty, do you have any bending tips or exercises? I see people bending the string up, bending it down; using one finger, using two or more; what’s the deal?
Hey Marty just learning the guitar and I love Tool!!!! Attempting to learn The Pot. I got the main riff down but even with delay turned down the notes are “ringing” over each other too much. Are you palm muting the strings to get this riff cleaner??
Thank u Marty ! According to you, is this new Tool song tutorial easier than "Schism" that you reviewed recently here too for a beginner/sophomore guitarist like me who wants to work on Tool stuff ?
I'm pretty sure during the "Third Sequence" he is only playing the A string and D string open without the 2nd fret g string and 3rd fret b string notes. That's what it sounds like when I listen to the original track.
