Blaisdel used them as an important technique to place the embouchure perfectly in high register notes. She used to call them whistle tones. I’m talking 60 years ago.

Years ago I was told that practicing whisper tones was very important for flute done mastery, but in the intervening, I have heard nothing elsd about the technique.
