Link summoning seems pretty interesting, but at the same time it straight up kills a lot of my decks.

Why does this felt like I'm studying for an exam?

After ten years of not playing Yu-Gi-Oh I was questioning whether to sell my whole card collection. Instead I bought a bundle of cards from eBay which had loads of Xyz, Link, and Pendulum cards in it. Trying to learn how to use them all is kinda pushing me back to the option of selling all my cards.

I loved your explaination But This is the by far most stupid Addition to game .. It limits The no. Of Xyz ,fusions and synchros possible ,Designers should remove it *It contradicts the previous decks heavily depending on extra decks*.. It will kill so many Fusion decks and Xyz decks with a snap. For example Blue Eyes synchro deck and Elemental hero fusion decks....

It sounds like they invented link summoning so you have to buy the new cards or else you are limited to 1 monster from your extra deck. It nullifies GX, 5Ds, and Zexal which is dumb. Act like special summoning that way that many times never existed. Only use our way. This is bull.

I wish that link summoning was like a separate form of dueling lime a spin-off way to play. EX: dungeon dice monsters

As a mainly Magic player relearning Yu-Gi-Oh after years, no offense but Link Monsters are bullshit. “Oh, your playstyle relies on the extra deck to be effective? Well now you have to buy new cards to replace half your extra deck because we changed the rules to make this mechanic interesting.”

I'm sure all the bitching about Links are from people Konami specifically made this for, people who abuse and spam extra deck, making ridiculous near unbreakable boards. This needed to happen to nerf extra deck.

All this time I thought the Link Arrows pointing to the opponent's field meant that player could use it for their own Extra Summons, effectively "stealing" an opp's Monster Zone. Buuuut I guess that'd made Link Monsters stupidly powerful lmao Links don't really seem that difficult to understand; their Summoning conditions are just a fancier Tribute Summon.

I'm gonna sound like a boomer, but how did we go from something as simple as, "Here are some monsters, use spells to assist your monsters and traps to hinder your opponent" to "I'm first! Lol perish, I have linked a link card through mutual link, which makes me assemble the U link that allows me to use your monster zone, which allows me to further link more links and I win!"

So I take it this is just old because I've been able to summon more than one extra deck monster and I don't use abominable link monsters. I think that since these monsters lack a defense stat then it would be fair that any card that would change them to defense position destroys them instead of doing nothing

Thanks for the very clear explanation! Quick question though. What would you do if an extra deck monster temporarily leaves the field and would be returned, however, all five main monster zones are occupied and you have your extra zone still open. Would they go to your extra monster zone?

See this is why Links ruin the game. Yugioh has always been unbalanced. Which is what makes it so interesting. The reason Yugioh is one of the most popular card game is bc of the fact that it is so versatile and unbalanced. Why? Because it makes it alot more fun. Instead of having everyone start off the same way and slowly transitioning the game state, it can either be a slow game, fast game or a normal average game speed. Unlike other card games, aka Vanguard, Magic ect. Now since links are out. Everyone starts off balanced and that isnt good. Why? Bc the game will now be focused more on who gets this "Extra Link" first. Knowing the meta these type of first turn plays will be most optimal coming from a competitive player myself. Now your probably like how is this balanced. Well its balanced bc your oppenent could have did the same, but didnt. Then almost no matter what, your opponent cant do anything about it. Making it balanced bc each player has the option to do this, but unbalanced bc this isnt yugioh. I hate links. Kill them dead.

When a link monster gets destroyed can you still summon extra deck monsters in the zones that the arrows were pointing to

so lets say one of ur extra deck monster is temporary banish for one turn from the extra deck zone but when it return all main monster zones are occupied, can it return to the extra deck zone?

hmmm..This changes the game in such a hard way that I can't be stubborn and play old stuff vs whatever is new. You're not allowed to special summon without links it seems. Unless you want only one special summon out at once. I guess it's a nerf to slow the game down though. It seems. I haven't played in a long time.

Why does decode talker say 2+ effect monsters? If you need 3 effect monsters to summon it, why can't it just say 3 effect monsters? That Skulldread link monster too says 2+ monsters with different names? I see it has a link rating of 4, so do I need 4 monsters with different names? Why doesn't it just say that? Or am I tripping?

Can I use a higher link monster as a link material to summon a lower link monster?

What they need to do is release as many arch type specific link monsters as fast as possible.

To all of you saying shit like, "Oh this ruins Yu-Gi-Oh", you can stfu. This doesn't ruin Yu-Gi-Oh in the slightest, but actually balances this game better, at the cost of a few decks like Synchron, Masked Hero, and Rank 4 Toolbox decks. We no longer have to see unbreakable boards from Extra Deck Spam (assuming Konami decides not to use Links to power creep further). Links HELP THIS GAME! QUIT COMPLAINING! Very thoroughly explained. I just got back into yugioh because of the computer game. i cant say i like this whole new era of the game. Its becoming too slow paced. People take like 20 min to finish their turn by summoning and synchro and discarding and reviving and re-synchro. Its so annoying. And all my favorite cards are forbidden now lmao. But just gotta stay with the times I guess.

It used to be such a fun game. Cards were simple. Rules were simple. Luck and Skill made duels interesting. Sacrifices were necessary to gain something - discarding, losing life, or tributing. People could make comebacks during a duel too. Effects were not overpowered and impacted both players. Fields were less complicated as well. What a damn shame.

So I just got back into yu gi oh and wanted to make a blue eyes deck and was really debating if I wanted to make a $100 deck now I'm definitely not and I'll just stick to my shitty Noble Knight deck which is even less relevant now
