Videos like these teach me how to grow sensitive plants responsible but also not to be unnecessarily gentle all the time. Sometimes I end up making a mess or breaking stuff when I'm being too careful.
Definitely bigger pings! My first order mine all died that was a couple years ago. So I ordered again in May & they were so small 😳 I was a bit worried I’d lose them again! It’s been 4 months and they’re looking good so I ordered 3 more 💜 🤞🏼
I'm so happy I found your videos, although I can't buy any pings or VFTs from you (live in Canada) I am learning so much and this video in particular about pings. Yes, they are my favourite to put in weird little pots with rock dirt. Thanks again.
I have been so scared to get the leaves wet!!!! I am so glad I watched this. Also, I need to replant mine since I have it on Spaghnum moss and perlite. May be why its doin just ok and not awesome. Thank you, this was super helpful.
LOVE this video!!! Thank you...I just bought one and a Sundew Drosera on an impulse and want to repot them but I've hesitated, now I feel I can do it! At least the butterwort!
I got my first Ping a couple of years ago. It is so delicate and produces beautiful leaves and flowers, as well as controlling the little gnats that show up when I have a lot of fruit and veggies in the kitchen. I keep it in an East facing window with my African Violets. And I noticed several months ago that there are baby plants under the big one! I am delighted. Thank you for your assistance and providing quality plants.
My first one died because i got impatient and put her outside when it was still burning hot. I just received my second one and will take super care of her. It is alot bigger than the first one so maybe that will help.
I don't think I found this video on the website: this one would be great to have posted, so helpful! Let's just say I wish I found this before my order arrived. 😅
Hi Damon, I’m a new customer that has been ordering many potted plants to Van Nuys! Thank you for your top quality plants they’re super nice and healthy. Just out of curiosity what was the very first plant you ever sold and what made you decide to make this as a business? I think if you make a video about your humble beginnings it would be nice. Thank you.
@@user-ix1ob1hr1b That is one way to do it but they must be protected from drying out or getting too wet. You can put a plastic bag over them as they sit on the medium or put them in a plastic bag on a dampish paper towel too. Just monitor their moisture level and keep them out of direct sun. 🌱
I think that's a great idea and cheaper to ship weight wise and damage would be much less plus the humidity contained. This vid is a good purchase incentive good job. Luckily I grow a large variety of exotic plants and have all of the essentials ready to pot with.
Love the changes! How often should I repot my pings? I have a gigantea and a gigantea cross I got form you guys several years (??) ago but I've been too afraid to repot them. I feel more confident after watching this video though. The gigantea is enormous, like 8-9 inches across and is actually pushing itself out of its pot. I stuffed long fibered sphagnum moss underneath the leaves to give the roots something to grow into. Should I take off the older leaves that curve down when I repot? Thank you!
I have ordered a lot of plants from you lately and I have only had 2 die from shipping and potting. They were both bare roots. I love them but I won’t order any more of them. I think the trauma is too much for them. All of my plants that have been potted that I have ordered from you are beautiful and growing well, except the bare root plants.
Thank you for this, just ordered a couple of Mexican Pings. Don't really have experience with Pings, outside of P. primiflora but that species always dies on me. Wish me luck hopefully I'll have better luck with the Mexican variety.
Hi Damon! Waiting on my order and so excited to receive it. Regarding the pots with no hole: I'll be putting mine in a square glass pot with no holes. Do I just use a spray bottle to water every few days so the soil doesn't get too wet? Wondering how I keep the soil from getting too wet when I water a ping.
The soil is very rocky so it tends to absorb the water when you too water into a non draining pot. I use a little watering can and just water a little at a time and watch the soil for absorption
just recd my order yesterday - what is the ideal pot / I am in Florida. how much sun should it get. my plan it to put mine in a mini terrarium jar. I wantedd to put in the best ideal pot/environment so I dont kill them. Ping moranensis A x moc - ping mora Libelulita - ping laueana red
Bella N have you checked out our video on ping care? Let me know if you still have questions after that! And you can use any pot as long as you avoid terra-cotta or unglazed ceramic.
@@California_Carnivores Could you just water generously and then drain it by tipping it? Given you have a way to prevent all the media from falling out lol
ohhhhhh are we able to water overhead? I've been careful not to water overhead because....I don't even know lol. It just seemed right to not wet the leaves
It depends a little bit on the species and the season. We water every few days until winter when some Mexican Pinguicula go into a dry succulent phase. Then we would water once a week
We have and for us, it isn’t a great choice. It doesnt hold the moisture in an even way that is good on a large scale and we find many of the Mexican or tropical pings dislike sphagnum long term
Is there a trick to getting Pings to bloom? Age of the plant, more light? I’ve had mine (Sethos and Johanna 😊) since 5/23. They are doing very well and growing but so far no blooms.
It can be a bit of a combination; age, species/hybrid, light and food. I’d apply a misting of Schulz cactus fertilizer to the leaves once a month to increase food and then consider if the light may need to be increased!
I just received a couple of the Mexican butterwort plants today, but we didn't get soil, now I have to order some, any suggestions on how to keep them alive for a few days in a paper towel
I was a customer a long time ago. I moved out and I recently moved back. I found a Venus from a local dollar store. She is doing great. But I want more so I look up your store and found it I wanna buy three pings for now but how do I order online please help me.
You can place an order on our website and we’ll ship out the plants to you as quickly as possible 😊 we offer a live delivery guarantee on all of our plants so if you have any issues, send us an email! You can place your order at www.californiacarnivores.com
So it's fine to use pots that are unglazed on the inside? I'm used to Venus flytraps which need fully glazed pots, but I'd rather not restrict myself like that with Pings if I don't have to
@@seizedcarcass8440 Yes! They are like beautiful, weird, little sea anemones that just sit on the soil and their roots can eventually grow a bit into the soil but they’re never super firmly attached
It’ll be a little hard to grow that unless you pick a species or hybrid that doesn’t want a dry winter succulent phase. I’d go with emarginata, gigantea, sethos or weser. Then I would but a little pot of live sphagnum to get it started. It’s more rare to get it to grow from dried because
@@California_Carnivores Just purchased two cute little tropical Butterworts from you, so I will try to grow some sphagnum on top. I live in florida currently, so a winter will be hard to get anyways with a temperate species
