Watch as we pour a concrete floor for a house that has radiant heat installed in the Styrofoam. We are using a conveyor truck to place the concrete. With 3 guys this concrete floor took us about an hour to pour.
For a more complete step by step guide on how to form and pour a concrete slab, you can purchase my course here:
mike-day.mykaj...
In the course I break down each phase of forming and pouring a concrete slab just like we do at Day's Concrete Floors, Inc.
You'll learn from me, the owner Mike Day, all my knowledge and tips on what I've learned over the last 30+ years of forming and pouring concrete slabs.
When working with concrete, just one mistake can cost you hundreds if not thousands to fix or repair. This course will help you eliminate any mistakes by covering all the aspects of the process.

I pour for around $6/ft including all concrete and materials. 4" gravel, 4"minimum concrete, welded wire mesh, rebar if needed, plastic, expansion joint and usually includes cuts or tooled in joints, but sometimes the joints are an extra $2/ft if excessive, or decorative. Stevens Concrete Llc

Additive is put in the mix,so you can pour with a wet slump,with a boom pump,you have to,so in a sense it is semi self leveling,and the foam underneath will give you a greater finishing time,Nice work,that is how you do it.

A lot of experience and a lot of ability on that crew. A good puddler or raker is worth his weight in gold. You make running that screed board look easy but that takes a lot of manual dexterity. You make the crew I'm on look like a bunch of amatuers.

holy mud dogs. This was a pleasure to watch. Any body who thinks they can do better and then says, "I'm a contractor" or wants to argue the semantics of saw joints versus control joints is not welcome inside my brotherhood of concrete. These guys are!

Good video. It would be great to also see a video on all the work prior to pouring and details about the radiant heat, foam, and forms, etc. . Thanks.

One thing I noticed that's different from other vids is you guys don't have the luxury of screeding off of forms because the perimeter is already poured. Without a form as a level reference how did you manage to keep it so flat? Great vid.
@MikeDayConcrete

Greg Viglione it's called kick screeding or wet screeding, it's just the way we we're taught. We use a laser to make "wet" pads in the concrete and use them to screed off of.

101. If you look you will see a laser level off to the right side and in some clips one guy using the receiver to set heights. They then screed between heights to set levels then screed between levels to set floor height. They know what they are doing. Although the fatter guy on the board should use two hands all the time. To comments below reinforcement is only needed if concrete has to support heavy Barring loads only thing needed for this is fiber and light mesh fibers for shrinkage and wire for holding the concrete together if cracking occurs

What is that blue stuff that is being buried under the concrete? And how do you use that Lazer level and why?

I'm guessing this is a super slab mix it makes it easier to lay and keeps ur labor cost down

They are good I kick and pull as those guys where I live you can't find guys that ok know how to kick and pull.It a art that being lost. Worked for Gorge Jay Shaw pulling by hand we could put 20,000 sqft down in 4 hours.

Do you just eye whether it is level or not? Or, does a pour this big kind of level itself?

We're using a laser level to get the floor flat.
@trevmint5615
@trevmint5615 7 лет назад
yes but when and how are you checking it?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 7 лет назад
Trev Mint I have a receiver for the laser and make "wet" pads in the concrete to strike off from when we screed. I make these pads about every 12 to 14 feet.

What is this lightgreen stuff underneath the concrete?
@drjamesfroggatt7647
@drjamesfroggatt7647 5 лет назад
Mike, could I ask you what is the green stuff (what product is this) that you're pouring the concrete on. I assume it's some kind of under-slab insulation and am just curious to find out the cost of doing the foundation this way versus insulating the concrete with something like Celotex and putting a wood floor on top. Thank you kindly for this video and hope to hear from you soon. James
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 5 лет назад
The green under slab insulation is called Crete-Heat. I'm not sure what the cost is, we just were hired to pour and finish the concrete floor on this project. Here's a link to the insulation. www.crete-heat.com/

Hi Mike, and the boys. I noticed you did not use an expansion gap or control joint. Will the concrete crack at the underfloor heating zone junction?
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete 7 лет назад
jacob sartorius We saw expansion joints after troweling using a soff-cut saw.

why do you guys like the sliding screed instead of a see-saw screed? just faster? and the bull float man went the wrong way. looks good though. I would love to come in after you guys with a trowel and get it broke in. can't find good finishers in nc, except me and some of my guys. good job

Sorry. I have no idea why I said that... Ive been pouring for 16 years. Yes, bull float in line with the screed. I think I was reffering to the guy who floated second, perpendicular with the screed. Should have stood outside the wall and floated line on the third float. I'm a contractor, I have to say something! Lol. And to here on the video some more, you guys need a couple more poles to reach across. That's all.... Lol

If you flick your wrist like that at the end of a pull in Pittsburgh, you'll catch hell. Big no no around here. But with no laborers behind you, I'm guessing you do that to use momentum to push excess concrete back. We lift straight up at the end of the pulls. That flick bullshit kills your wrist
