I poured a pad today and I used wet pads for the first time with a transit. It beats using a 2x4 temporary form to screed on top of with a power screed, pulling the 2x4 out and filling in the void having the concrete in the void wetter than the concrete around it. Thanks for sharing your tricks and knowledge Mike!

That initial magged pad looks like an art it looks like it'd be a ton of fun to do but stressful I'm sure lol. Making that nice flat looking pad out of chunky wet rocky concrete

I’m pouring near Pittsburgh they’re charging me 225 a yard. That’s delivery and everything but still.. that’s 65 dollars a yard more than he’s paying. It’s 185 a yard where I live but they don’t deliver that far. Gonna have to try to work something out with them

Great videos. I know concrete can be laborous but I think I went in the wrong business. 😂. $2700 in labor for 2 guys for a job that takes half a day. Even my lawyer doesn’t get that much. I’ve done some concrete work and there is a finesse but honestly your videos are giving me and my bank account more and more motivation to do it myself. I do thank you for your videos!

If you think that was only half a day's work you aren't paying attention. As he mentioned, he's leaving before the finishing to go do set up set-up for the next week. Do you think the forms and stringlines magically appear? ; )

Great channel I've been a contractor for years learned a lot watching your channel thank you! Question .. you mention air in the mix. That's something that isn't for freezing the day you pour but it helps in some way even after it's cured if you're in a colder climate?? Also you mentioned adding fibers to the mix is that something you normally can request or do you add that yourself when the truck gets there? How much per yard?? Thanks

That $3 sq ft for labor does that include cutting control joints. And how much does the price go up in the winter months? Thanks Mike
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete Год назад
Cutting is included for us. Price stays the same for our regular customers. I might bump it up a buck for others.

So, I hooked up our extended chute the other day, and as soon as the mud hit the chute, the chain literally snapped off the chute.. The driver said you can't use an extended chute without a sawhorse underneath to support it. I see in all your videos that he's wrong. Sounds like my chain was just junk huh? Ive got some PTSD from that moment.. Can you recommend a good extended chute with a chain that WONT break?

Hey Mike. I'm going to be building a 24x24 shop and have a question about layout for slab. Ok so when I'm laying out for my slab am I wanting to make sure inside my form boards are 24x24 so my walls go to the edge of slab or do I want to go like 24.5x24.5 and then just measure back in some? I'm pretty handy with tools and building but just want a professional opinion and some insite
@MikeDayConcrete
@MikeDayConcrete Год назад
Make it 24x24. Don't make it oversized
@sethdistler5332
@sethdistler5332 Год назад
Yeah all materials are in 4 ft sections so if you go more than anything dividable by 4ft you will have a bit more unnecessary work, cuts and waist. Map out your inside . Maybe you need 24 ft by 28 ft.

Mike you look really young to have been doing this for 42 years. If I had to do anything big with concrete, I’d want you to do it. I’d fly you to Hawaii for a few days, I’m sure we could work something out. I’m thinking that you might have less work in the winter since it’d be hard to pour concrete in the winter in the north east.
@MikeDayConcrete

I might take you up on that Lyle, I've gone to the Virgin Islands to pour concrete before.

Back in the 70's when I was doing this for a living there was the boss and myself usually doing two floors a day, 20 x 40 cellar slabs plus a garage or other small job, occasionally we would take on larger jobs too, when we did 2 floors we tried to schedule them in as close proximity of each other distance wise as we could pour the first floor then pack up but leave power a trowel with some hand tools on site then pour the second floor while the first was set enough to get on to start finishing. After the second slab was in we would do the same routine as the first leaving the power trowel on site, one of us would return to the first floor to get started on it , once finished we would go to the second floor to help get it done, usually we would hand trowel the final 2 passes because you can finish a floor by hand sooner than with a machine, my being 6-5 allowed one pass on a 20 x 40 end to end using knee boards, we would power float the slab to flatten it then when (if) possible to close the floor in with finish blades but to save time due to not having the weight of the machine once the slab was at a certain point (depending on the season usually) during hand troweling you end up saving time plus you can get a very nice finish by hand. We did this for several years sometimes finishing 2 house slabs with enough time to still catch a 2 or 3 car garage or similar job (summer time) , walkways that most times were hand finished with a mag float scroll pattern finish rather than broom, I haven't seen of heard of scroll finish in many many years.
