Thank you for continuing to post these. I'm in Bakersfield, CA - and I wish you were close enough to take the job. I've been watching your videos, to understand if I've got the capacity to pour a few smaller slabs.. tool shed size and you make it look possible. Keep the videos coming!

here in Canada we always use rebar with 3/4" crush in the cement. 20mpa for compression strength. nice pour

32 mpa for load bearing but a driveway doesn't require that much unless it's gonna double as a weight scale haha

Make sure to pour a 4000 psi mix (straight cement) and add Fibermesh (1 bag per yard). Lay some #3 bar 2' feet off center. The video is great but always over engineer unless the soil in your region is known for being stable.
@boskey10
@boskey10 7 лет назад
The most important aspect in concrete, is the base. Pouring on dirt and tamping it with a little 100 pound tamper is not going to do anything. For high traffic areas such as a driveway,a 5000pound Bomag is what you need. Also putting the right aggregate and sand for a tight compaction. Clay compacts well, but you need the proper equipment to achieve it. As for concrete, rebar is essential for durability and strength. Also putting enough Cutts in is to control the cracking, vertically and horizontally. The slab should to be in sections to conform with the shifting and settling over time.

I was thinking the same thing... it is good work and it looks great, but aren't you supposed to put some gravel under the concrete and me personally would've made a cut down the middle. And yeah that plate compactor does less than me stomping my foot..... the work does look good and I'm sure it's "enough".... I do highway work so maybe residential doesn't need as much as I think it does?
@kylehughes6324
@kylehughes6324 18 часов назад
@jonathanhees6325 you only need gravel in climates where the soil goes through extreme freeze and thaw cycles.

I could make great use of that topsoil. A cement raised garden bed with the irrigation I think you install would be a valuable upsell. If the area is for RV parking only, is it feasible to pour lanes for the wheels? That would lessen runoff, use less material, and possibly cost less? What about coating the parking area with a garage floor covering to make cleaning easier?

Thanks for posting your videos it's going to be a big help when I do my own driveway, patio, and extend my porch. I notice on some of your other videos there are times that you use rebar and gravel befor a pour but on this video saw you only compact the dirt then poured the cement on top. I'm in Denver Colorado, and I'm a one-man band do it yourself at home person. I am not going to order a cement truck because I've never poured concrete in my life. I'm investing in a cement mixer and a bunch of bags of Quikrete from Home Depot to do small sections at a time. I'm going to remove a slab that fits one car and pour a brand new 17 wide by 30 feet long driveway. will I need rebar gravel and a certain pressure of bag concrete.

Looks Great. Why did you choose to NOT use metal to reinforce the concrete? Wont this just crack in a few years? Why didnt you use a sand/gravel base? Or a moisture block? I feel like this was a DIY especially when you had 8 guys cutting up sod instead of a quick bobcat run.
