In classical music theory: Major-Minor in modern music the combination of the 2, is a good place to start. ii V (i or I) can be conceptualized in many ways. With exploration you will find so so many paths to take. Sangah will open doors, and the doors keep opening........ Appreciated is her talent!

@@wally3608 in my mind, punk should always sound like jazz. The biggest takeaway for me was using inverted chords to give it that slanky sound. Even though i play in an abrasive band, i like to study all kinds of music, especially on instruments im a novice on. I just love expression of all types.

This is definitely a new way of looking at chords for me. Usually I just do the rootless voicings (sometimes base chords if I'm sight reading) in the left hand and a melody line in the right, but using both hands to make those juicy chords is nice when you're comping or just adding something cool to your improve instead of just melody lines on chords and/or shells.

Good lesson and very useful. That’s the way I learned the ii-V-I awhile back, though I also learned a variation with a 6/9 chord for the I chord. Either way, it’s a surprisingly beautiful chord sequence when played with jazzy voicings and good voice leading, as you have demonstrated here. What I learned, and I’m sure you know, but some others may not, is that if a player can get the ii-V-I "under the fingers" in all keys, that pattern (or sometimes just ii-V) often plays out in various keys within the same song, even though the song itself has never changed keys. Knowing that can help someone learn a song and find the chords much quicker if they can spot those patterns up front. And if we practice a lot, someday some of us might be fortunate enough to play and arrange almost as well as you, Sangah. But that’s a high mountain to climb. :)

Congratulations! You must be on active RU-vid promotion now ... although published 7 months ago, tons of the comments are from the last few days. Yeah, just from this video, you deserve it. The first 4 of 1700 forms of ii-V-I are freshly presented, and I think you'll help many folks, from the elderly (like me, who really appreciate your elan, jokes, and work you put into this) and the young (who have the luxury of taking your kernels of wisdom for granted). Subscribed. 10K subscribers now, maybe in 3 years 1M subscribers, like other excellent communicators.

Great video, It was 21 years ago my late guitar teacher taught me II-V-I and all I want is playing rock/grunge/punk/metal music. RIP my teacher, I become a better player because of you.
