Love you playing alot. Really admire your technique. That line at the end really remind me of the sharey reed bass solo in chicago at the massive concert.
Ever since I've heard it for the first time, I've been asking what the small chord progression at 0:28 reminds me of ... now it occurred to me: its hey joe by jimmy hendrix ... Daric you are a beast!
Okay here’s the real question; you can read and write music theory, yadda, yadda, play this and that, all sorts of fills (for which, honestly, are you really reading at that point? But I digress) but in the end, your still up there reading! Boring! No life! What happened to the soul? Gone! Because instead of putting YOU into the song, your projecting what someone ( band director, etc...) thinks a crowd wants to hear! And nine times out of ten, they don’t want to hear perfection, or what some schmuck thinks they want to hear! How do you tell that person or those people “look, 75% of the greats, never learned theory, they are my influences, and I have gotten along 28 years just fine without it! here’s what I can do. I feel I do it better and with more feel than the person with a script!” Without looking like a complete ass?!
That's one hell of an opinion and I hope you have 28 years worth of evidence to back up your claims! Theory doesn't have to dictate your play, but can guide your play. You don't have to rely on it by all means but it's always there when you need it, like a lifejacket or a parachute! Happy Bass Playing bro!!!
What’s your problem? If you don’t want to learn theory, don’t. It helps lots of people to get to another level. Darius is fantastic: his bass playing is from another planet, it is melodious, rhythmic etc. We all have a choice: listening to the greats and imitating them is a great start. After that theory helps you to evolve to a new plane. In the end, music is about having fun: if you enjoy something, great. If not move on - no need to slag off the authors who are putting in a lot of effort to share some of their great moves.
