Western music focuses heavily on glide technique which is meend. Doing octaves Sa to Sa, Re to Re, Ga to Ga, etc...is a basic beginner exercise practiced as Oh-Ah or Ah-Ah. Also, there is no such thing as belly voice in western music. There are three voice classifications, chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice; all lower octave notes are sung in chest voice. Belly voice or payt say gana is an Indian music term. Overall the explanation is okay, better than Kaushiki and others who have attempted to explain western technique, however, it falls short in many areas. Agra Ghrana (Pandit Sanjay Patki/Ustad Mubarik Ali Khan) doesn't recognize any difference between western and classical Hindustani music vocal technique, and the gharana teaches how to sing in all three registers, including taar saptak which is head voice register. Speech level singing, natural singing, as explained in this lesson, is also a western technique that is used by singers, such as Michael Buble' in present day, Frank Sinatra in the past, and other great singers who never use/used head voice. One thing that Hindustani Classical gurus don't understand is that Falsetto and Head Voice are 2 different things. Falsetto is a purely stylistic technique where low air compression is used just to add flavor to the song, and head voice is an actual register where you sing with full air; western/Bollywood light music singers use falsetto along with head voice, listen to Hari Haran, Benny Dayal, KK, Javed Ali, etc. It really comes down to what style of music you are attracted to and the way you want to sing. Singing should never be labeled or restricted to "sing with only your natural voice or artificial voice", but rather freedom of expression and innovation needs to be promoted in the style the singer wants to sing, and that would become natural voice for that singer.

Thank you Guruji. I have been using my head voice to sing notes in the upper octave for a long time and it had become a habit. I tried the practice of meed and it has helped me immensely. I can't thank you enough for the knowledge that you impart among students of music like me. Pranaam.
