Linear drumming has been really popular over the last few decades. If you're just beginning to work on them, they might seem extremely difficult, but linear drumming isn't as hard as you might think!

Thanks so much! I’m glad it’s helping. Your comment means a lot because my whole approach to this channel is to break things down to the smallest learnable chunk. We all have a tendency to want to jump in at step 3 or 4, a lot of the times we do this unknowingly. This causes so much frustration when trying to get better. Best of luck on your journey. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Great lesson. I enjoyed the clarity of your slow examples. Teachers who always insist every lesson end with a “lightening fast example”, fail to understand, the secret to teaching new students to play faster is to get them to THINK Faster. Focused and relaxed repetition allows the mind to think faster while training the limbs to improvise inside various styles .. (especially when sight reading.) 😊👍🥁

This is the truth! Speed is a byproduct of controlled motion and thought. Slow and steady is the quickest way to get fast. Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! 👊🏾👊🏾

@@NikaoWallace Turning 70 soon. Recently got over throat cancer, and had a hip, (so painful I couldn't work the hihat) replaced. Decided to start practicing about 1.5 hours per day. Recently joined an all original band. I guess it's true; it's never too late. Here's a short promo of the band. Really different than what I'm used to playing. Hope you don't mind my long ass story. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lsituahw1q8.html

This was great but as a teacher myself I feel it was missing how to connect playing it at slow speed and playing at lightning speed. Any tricks tips exercises mindsets for that aside from play slow as a fill then speed it up 5 bpm each time?
@NikaoWallace
@NikaoWallace 8 месяцев назад
Thanks so much for watching! I wish I could give you the magic secret. The truth is that speed is a byproduct of controlled movement and controlled thought. Your limbs have to get comfortable with moving around the kit in different ways and your brain has to get used to thinking of ideas quickly. That only comes with time practicing slowly. You can also come up with some “stock” 1 or 2 measure patterns. Knowing exactly what you’re going to do will help you get faster quicker. I have a free guide out that I Just made with 15 of my favorite linear fills. I’ll link it in the description of this video, hopefully that will be helpful!

@@NikaoWallacei kinda get what u mean. i only recently started to explore 32nd note+ linear drum fills and I'm noticing it helps to play something predetermined at slow speed, but as you speed up you almost have to stop thinking and let muscle memory take over then slowly crank the speed higher and higher, even trying to play it 30% faster than you're comfortable with, so that even if you can't quite get it, you start to hear it's possible. Thats what I've noticed so far. Do you have anything you could add to that?
@NikaoWallace
@NikaoWallace 8 месяцев назад
@@sashaman1234 You’re right bro! The goal is to not think about the movement or patterns. You want to get to the place where you’re hearing rhythmic “Melodie’s “ in your head, but that only comes when you’ve gotten comfortable enough with the mechanics to not use up your bandwidth thinking about them. It WILL come if you’re patient enough to go through the process.
