Disclaimer I post my method and preferences. I am not saying this is the right way to do it, only that this is the way I do it. Follow the instructions of the manufacturers and always follow all directions because I can not be held liable. Anything you choose to create is YOURS :D that is the beauty of it! I know you can do any piece successfully, just make sure you do the proper research and use all safety measures.

I recently bought a tub of gesso at Michaels, and it was Michaels brand. Works great, and it was I think about $13..but I used my 40% off coupon!! Winning! :D I recently also did a wooden heart geode. I got the heart shape at Michaels, and it was pretty thick, so I gessoed it 3 times all sides, and then I painted the back and sides in acrylic rose gold. It came out great, no bubbles. I also bought a wood slab that day, and as soon as I get my pigments from Le Rez, I'll be starting it. Funny, but I decided to gesso it today, and here's your vid!

How do you do it without gesso? :( I want to show the wood....
@abstractboss
@abstractboss 4 года назад
Love To Learn you can pour without gesso by just doing a thin layer of resin to coat the wood and then once it’s cured you can sand and then do your actual pour art

Is it the same for paintings on wood? 😊
@abstractboss
@abstractboss 3 года назад
do you mean is this how you prep when you are just doing acrylic on wood? you always want to prep any surface in some way. Wood usually needs something like gesso so that way when you start painting on the wood it won't dry as fast :D

I want to try a resin pour with clear and colored resin to bring out some of the wood grain in the deep bottom layer. Do you think it will work, or soak up to much resin?
@sanjanananda2540
@sanjanananda2540 6 лет назад
I also wanted the wood grain to show through so I did not prime it and I ended up with tiny pits (i'm guessing those were the spots the resin got soaked). If I did another layer when the piece was semi-cured would those pits have disappeared??
@JohnMark61355

What if you want to see the wood? Is there a clear prep? Thanks.
@abstractboss
@abstractboss 4 года назад
yeah totally! you can do a thin coat of resin. basically enough to paint on a layer of resin, then when it is cured, sand it. you might need to do it twice but once usually works
@theruhart7786

very helpful video. I have question, do u sand the wood after the 3 layers are dry and before pouring on them ??

Gesso is pricey. There are some RU-vid videos that show you how to make your own cheaper.

@@melanietabaqchali2259 I doubt it. Gesso and Mod Podge are quite different. Might look up recipes though.
