Thank you for the info! I just went in and sure enough, several of my drugs weren’t listed, but they were in the “recently filled “ category. Moved them over and I’m ready for the 1st!
Great overview about all the options and tweaks to enter each example. May I add in addition, you didn't just pick one pharmacy because at each plans' Preferred Pharmacy you get the best price. By putting in several you increase your chances of including a Preferred. In our area for 90% of the plans either Walmart or CVS is Preferred so your list will show the best Annual OOP. From there you can learn what other preferred pharmacies the plan has to choose from that you didn't list. Surprisingly some Preferred are lower than others in the same plan. In my area Kroger is lower than CVS. May be worth checking it out.
Good question! You can compare the plans without adding medications, and then you will compare plans with the lowest premiums on the market. I would still check pharmacies to make sure the pharmacy you like (if you do need meds) is "preferred" with the plan you are choosing. If you think there is a medication you may need in the near future, you can take that into account, but in reality, you will likely just want to choose the plan with the lowest monthly premium or close to it.
Wow, this is so helpful. I am squished between walls. Due to a sudden retirement (by choice) of the person who was carrying me on health insurance, I am just enrolling in Part B, a supplement, and unfortunately the Drug plan. Retirement date July 26. Was informed a person has 60 days to enroll in a supp and drug plan without underwriting due to it being a retirement. That date will be the end of September, right before the changes coming. I am only on two generic meds. Since I have Part A already and have a Medicare card can I create an account now? I have heard any Part D I pick will be changed to new Part D that is coming in October. It was my understanding that the new $2000 cap plan is a choice to participate in it or you don't have to? True? Anyway should I create an account even through I am not enrolled in B or D yet (but have to be in 16 days). 20 days before open enrollment! Such bad timing.
Sorry to hear about the sudden change! First, you have 6 months from starting Medicare Part B for the first time to get a Medigap plan using Medigap Open Enrollment (and no health questions). For Part D coverage, you have 2 months after your employer coverage ends to enroll without penalty. If you haven't already, it sounds like you should enroll in Part B as soon as you can. If you have Part A and your Medicare ID number, you shouldn't have any issues creating the account online. So, yes, you should make the account! Lastly, the $2,000 cap is not voluntary. In 2025, all Part D and Medicare Advantage plans with prescription coverage will have that cap. @@GiardiniMedicare Thank you! Employer paperwork for creditable coverage states retirement July 26, so my deadline is Sept 26? Someone said I had to pick a Plan D at the same time as enrolling in Plan B or there would be a lifetime fine. That's before the new plans come out?
