I really look forward to your videos, been out of the game since the 90’s and Detroit / London Techno. I’m moving to digital and keeping sharp with bedroom DJ’ing. I’m not looking to do gigs or anything much just enjoying the movement doing it again! I’ve seen a lot of people my age starting up again, the pressure of being cool, getting gigs, staying 100% up to date is gone and we’re doing it purely for the love :) I watch your videos bc there’s always something to learn or re learn and you’re very engaging to watch. Thanks :)

Thanks for this. I do exactly what you said, I listen to the first few seconds then I just D/L. I need to stop this, every week I need to take the time and listen to the whole track and see if it fits the gigs that I have coming up. Then take the time to really spin these tracks at home, know them through and through. Then when it comes to actually playing I'll know exactly how to go about it. GREAT TIP! I appreciate the knowledge and these videos, thank you.

djTLM - all great ideas in this video! As a mobile guy who plays requests (up to a point, I am NOT playing Zappa’s “Dirty Love” at a wedding unless the bride and groom request it!) I have a few modifications to what you’re suggesting. So I have a set of big bins in Rekordbox; 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Motown, disco, funk, etc. that are stuffed with great tracks I’d consider playing at any gig. Before the gig, I talk to client and figure out what kind of vibe we need to set for their event and then I hit Rekordbox and build playlists with choices that fit their requirements. That way I have what I need at my fingertips to begin playing and it reduces the choices so that I can get to a decision for the next track to play easily. If someone requests something that I didn’t “pack” in my playlists, I use the search to quickly see if I have it, I can preview it in the headphones and decide if it can be played and then how to fit it in. I thank you for your videos, especially #ShareTheKnowledge videos. I always appreciate learning how someone else approaches something. There is a lot to be gained looking over someone’s shoulder at how they do the same job.

Animesh Beladiya in a single word, No. Part of becoming a DJ is working to acquire the music you play. My music won’t make you a DJ any more than my music collection made me one (it didn’t...having a bunch of songs doesn’t make you a DJ...).

thanks alot for this tips, expecting more videos on this topic, as a lot of djs out there doesn't know how to teach or give a tips about how to come out with a 3style routine. I asked the redbull 3style 2017 finalist few days ago all he could say was put in all your nice work together in one set which doesn't really make sense to me.

@DJTLM always appreciate your knowledge/advise! Back in the vinyl days I used to look through the crate during the gig and when I found a track I liked or a couple of tracks I would turn the sleave (so the corner was sticking up) and leave them sticking out three or four records or so and then when it was time to select the next song I would only go to those that were sticking up. 😉 Aka: DJ KENO

Jorge Torres No doubt, my crates always had a couple of sleeves sticking out 💯

My man djTLM hit the nail on the head with this one so I'm going to #ShareTheKnowledge too. I've been using djay pro by Algoriddim for like 3 months now and they have a match section on the software where it matches like 20 different songs to the track that's already playing it's pretty kool i use it for last minute problems don't know if other dj software has that but I was passing on some info for anyone who may need it

What can i recommend is using pioneer pro dj link. Everytime i get the chance to play on cdjs2000nexus + DJM 900NXS, 900SRT, and 2000NXS (has to be one of these) i bring my laptop to the club. Basically this way you can pre-listen the tracks like you do, for example, when you dj in your bedroom. More info here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oy_TmpC6uZs.html . Since i get like 200-300 promo tracks a month its really hard to listen to all of them and this could be the best way (i have everything sorted in playlists ofc)

I don't think too much music is a bad idea. If the library is well organised and music well prepared! For the genres where I have a lot of I do a folder of the genre with a playlist with all the music. I also do sub playlists for Electroswing I have dancy e-swing, ambiance e-sing, vocaly e-swing, bassy e-swing. and also do smart playlist per artist whos got a lot of tracks. If I want a track, or a mood I can find it easely! Also I make sure to have a hotcue at some key points of the tracks, like drops and vocals. But yeah knowing music is key! I train by putting a playlist on and try to name the track by ear.

Also if I can't think or find a track, Rekordbox DJ related track is a good function to help me find one !
