Shaving is a big one for me! I always make sure to shave the area I'll be getting tattooed later. I know some artists do it for you but I feel a bit weird about that so I do it myself.
You are so right. I do not let any tattoo artist shave me because in the past they've shaved me DRY and I was in agony before I even had a needle near me
I'm going to be having a 5-6 hour tattoo session in a couple weeks and the sleep one is the one that worries me. I can often not sleep well the night before I do something I'm either super excited about or super nervous about soooo hopefully I can manage to get my mind to chill enough to sleep well the night before lol. Thanks for all the tips! Love your videos :)
I got my 1st one today! The pain wasn't as bad as I thought. It also depends where & how high your pain tolerance is. You can pick your tattoo artist by their work. The guy who did mine, Bobby, was gentle:) What I read online was to go with a full stomach, which I didn't do:( I was super nervous & shivering because it was cold. Don't hold your breath while he or she is tattooing you. & before you know it you've got your 1st tattoo. Now, the waiting process...
4th tattoo in 2 weeks all I can say is it's so addictive I got my first one and somehow weirdly I got addicted to the pain and as soon as I got off the chair I instantly wanted another
I love seeing how other people prepare for their tattoos! I always take a bottle of Lucozade and Vimto bon bons, and a big jumper to use as a blanket if I get chilly, or a pillow if I'm uncomfortable.
Omg, i remember watching this video just for fun, before I even planned on getting tattoos, and now I'm going to get my first tattoo in two days and I'm so glad I returned for this video.
I always take a friend. You never know whether you'll click with the artist on a personal level and I like having someone there to help distract me from the pain. If left to its own devices, my brain won't be able to focus on anything but that.
From a healthy point of view. A week before tattoo; Take multivitamins, Drink plenty of water ( 2L ) a day. You want yourself and your skin to be in top condition.
This was so helpful! I’m getting my second tattoo. My first one was when I was in Spain, drunk, aged 16😂 so my first legal tattoo in the Uk is today and I’m so excited!❤️
Im getting a tattoo soon, and its arizona, the middle of the summer, and i bike everywhere cuz i dont have a car. I want to be clean for the artist, so i hope i dont get too sweaty on the commute 😬
You weren't holding your breath you were hyperventilating aka breathing too much. It may seem like you're not getting enough oxygen, but it's the opposite. in those moments where you start to feel light headed, holding your breath will actually stop you from passing out c:
I'm looking to get a tatoo and I was wondering if it would be embarrassing or odd if I brought a stuffed animal? I have some pretty awful anxiety and this stuffed animal tends to calm me down and I'd rather have it just in case. 🙈
@@crucialexecutioner69 Have a stuffed animal. It might calm your nerves bud. Seriously, chill out. Not everyone processes pain/anxiety the same way. You're not more deserving of having a tattoo just because you control your anxiety better. It helps to have something to squeeze during painful moments, I don't see any problem with using a plushie. The tattoo industry has evolved for the best, thank god we're past biker/prisoners tattoos. I'm personally not metal enough for Hep C, you can keep that.
@@crucialexecutioner69 you're not a prisoner, biker, and you're certainly not a warrior. You're going off at someone in the youtube comments for no good reason. Actual bikers, prisoners and warriors are pissing themselves laughing at how pathetic you are. 99% of dust is human skin cells, and that's what you are. In reply to OP, bring a stuffed animal if you want! Judgemental people are usually, as we've seen here, pretty empty inside.
Not at all! Im getting my first tattoo today and I'm super nervous.I honestly was planning to bringing one myself 😁 and I'm being earbuds so I can listen to music 😁💙
You're so sweet! Thanks for the vid, I'm getting my first tattoo on May 4th... On the side of my neck. Really looking forward to it 😊 I'll bring some sweets in for me and my tattoo artist and probably end up snoozing while he's doing his creative stuff (I have a high pain threshold). Any advice to ease the itch after the scabbing? X
I had my right hand tattooed 7 weeks ago and I felt ill after 4 hours. Because I was sick in the morning and sick again just before my appointment so my stomach was empty 🙈 I felt stupid because this is my 8th tattoo lol. I was nervous for some strange reason. My blood sugar went low. So I’m going to have a chocolate bar or a energy drink before my appointment tomorrow. I’m having my left hand covered up tomorrow 😆
I just want the word "RUN." written on my left wrist. I walked past a tattoo parlour the other day and saw a sign saying "smaller than a dime, don't waste our fucking time.." Thoughts?
Lol, I'm getting my first tattoo in a few hours.... The appointment is in the evening and I've been having trouble sleeping for the last couple of weeks due to chronic pain in my knees... Oopsy XD also, I've heard that some artists don't like if you shave beforehand because they prefer to do it themselves for hygienic reasons :o now I'm wondering if I should shave XD
Getting my first one in just under two weeks. Slightly nervous about getting a good night's sleep before as I sometimes have anxiety issues at 4am; and also what to eat beforehand. Fish and chips ok?
What should i do guys, I’ve got 2 tattoos. One is like a 50 minute session and one is a 15 hours session. Im getting a full sleeve in 5 days and im just afraid that it is going to hurt as much as my chest did. We’re going to do it over 2 days and im sleeping there. But im just so afraid to feel that pain again...
Hi I want a tattoo it will be my first I want a rose with mom's name Rose and date she passed I want to get it on right back side..i am diabetic insulin dependent I take good care of myself controlled sugars...does the back hurt much for first time and can I get one. Thank you I appreciate you
Carolina Lopez definitely ask your tattoo artist if they’re comfortable or if they have any concerns with you being diabetic , because bleeding may be an issue, and depending where in the back it could hurt like a bitch or be somewhat moderate . I personally wouldn’t be comfortable tattooing someone with diabetes because you’re more prone to infection, cellulitis, and sepsis and tattooing is puncturing the skin and it’s way more risky and I wouldn’t feel right knowing that you could die because I let you have my art on your body . Just tell your artist that you’re diabetic and understand there’s a much higher risk for sepsis and infection and if they feel comfortable tattooing you .
Getting my first done in a week. I have one question that you didn't cover in this video. Should I shave the area being tattooed before arriving at my appointment or will it be better for the artist to do this for me
Hello, I have a question that I haven't been able to get a good answer on, I'm looking at getting my first tattoo (back of thigh) and I have eczema, is there any special precautions or prepping ritual you would suggest? (It rarely flares up there but I know many people who have eczema worse than me and was wondering how it would effect them.) I'm also looking at getting a tattoo on my arms were my eczema does flair up more creating a bumpy surface, would it be better to stylize the tattoo in more of a dot work style to kind of blend in with the bumps or do you feel that would be more noticeable?
everyone is different, and every case of eczema is different so there isn't really one definitive answer. speak to the artist who's doing your tattoo and they'll be able to help you
I've heard numbing cream lasts for like an hour or so and if you're getting a three hour session, what's the point? Maybe I don't understand numbing cream...
My first tattoo was 6 hours. The 5th hour was so painful! Then the artist offered numbing cream so it was way easier to sit for the last hour. Just ask!
The most recent tattoo I got the tattooist sprayed on a numbing spray about half way through just to help the last stretch when everything is a bit tender and it was honestly amazing haha, perhaps if you're after numbing ask your artist about a spray?
Question! I really wish to get a tattoo, but goodness, I'm terrified of needles. I literally hear the word and I will black out. I don't know how to get out of this mental block. Help?
I'm very afraid of needles too, not to the same degree as you but pretty bad, and I 'got over it' by watching lots of close up videos on here of people getting tattooed. By the time I went for my tattoo I saw it as more of a sharp pen than a needle, and now I have 4 and I'm yet to faint :P
My friend watched me get one first so she knew what exactly was happening, then maintained eye contact with me so she didn't have to look when it was her turn.
I hate needles too. I'm getting mine in a week and what helped me was to go with my friend and watch them get theirs first before I bothered booking an appoinent for mine.
I'm getting a tattoo in a couple days and I've been binge watching your videos but I just wanted to ask should I exfoliate and shave (I'm getting it on my forearm) Thank you!! Xx
I have a wrist tattoo and it wasn’t to bad. It felt like someone just dragging an eraser across your skin. Nose piercing was worse than my wrist tattoo lol
not something i'm too familiar with, sorry! Because it effects skin quality it could effect the healing of the tattoo, i'd ask the client if they'd been tattooed before whilst they were on it.
WTF is a flapjack? The only flapjack I have ever heard of is a pancake. A hot cake. A griddle cake. Like a waffle or a crepe. You bring it? That has to be the least mobile food I can think of wot with the syrup oozing everywhere and the sausage links rolling down the hall. A cob of corn would make more sense...While being tattooed?!?
Can I ask.. I will get an appointment for tattoos this september or october, I would like to get two big line work pieces on my front tights. Just regular size around A4 format, nothing too detailed, maybe a medium details, lines, numbers. I'm gonna go to one of the best artist in my town but I'm wondering if I will have to go two times or the artist will do them at once. I know that you can't answer for sure because you can't know which artist can do what but you can tell for yourself, how would it be more comfortable for you and your client if they come to you for two line, black, tight pieces.
