@@carolinedawson8121 Hi Caroline, Click on the down arrow on the right of the video title, to see the links. I hope your surgery was/will be successful. I’m in the UK and recently learned I have “extremely severe” carpal tunnel syndrome 😕 The Dr said that surgery may not make it much better but it’ll stop it getting worse. My fault for not getting it checked sooner but you know how it’s been with Covid. 🙄 I don’t have a date for that surgery yet but in 4 days I’m going to have 9 teeth out! 😶 Dreading it 😳
I need some advice I have Carpal tunnel surgery and now my hand feels worst and my thumb feels like a Radiating zap It's very painful it's been already almost 10 days since the operation I don't see my doctor for another week weak what can I do in the meantime please help
One thing I would suggest for people who live alone, get food items that you can cook easily in a toaster oven or something like that, use disposable plates and cups and cutlery if you don't have a dishwasher. Practice wiping your butt with your other hand than the one they are going to do surgery on. This will help you a lot. I've had 2 carpal tunnel surgeries and an ulnar release and an ulnar entrapment surgery so my hands have had a carpal release 1 on my left and 2 on my right. The first time I didn't have a dishwasher, the only issue I had was one time a plastic fork tine broke off in a spring roll and I didn't notice it, never noticed it so I think my stomach dissolved it or it passed without any issue. I bought a countertop dishwasher so this latest surgery, which I'm currently recovering right now from has been a lot easier to deal with since I could wash dishes. Also if you are in Canada, the neurologists don't want you to get surgery, they want you to come back and see them again, they will tell you that it isn't that bad and you can change your lifestyle. The first neurologist I saw said I didn't have carpal tunnel, even though I would wake up many times through the night with numb hands and my hands would be numb all day. I had to wait for him to retire because they kept wanting me to see him again. After he retired I saw someone else, who told me that it wasn't that bad and that I needed to change my hobbies, I told her "I have given up rock climbing, I have given up guitar, the only thing left for me to give up is work. Are you going to pay my bills?" then she allowed me to see the surgeon who said that I have the worst carpal tunnel and ulnar impingement that he had ever seen and I was in for surgery that week. It was so bad that in my right hand I would write one sentence and be unable to feel my hand for the rest of the day, and my left hand was worse! I had been fighting all my 20's to get treatment and it wasn't until I was in my 30's that they finally gave it to me. This is that great "free healthcare" people lie about in America. At least in the states if you have a problem you don't have to wait for people blocking your treatment to retire, and if they leave scissors inside you after a surgery you can sue them. I've been waiting 2 years to have the surgery I just had. What was happening is my ulnar nerve was popping out of the groove it sits in every time I would straighten and bend my elbow. It would make me feel sick the pain was so strong, and it was 2 years waiting after I started the process to get the surgery.
Just had carpel tunnel release surgery in U.K. only post op advice is to keep dressing on for 10 days, don’t get it wet & use hand as normal…which I can’t do as learnt I can’t lift heavier items & a few other restrictions! See nurse to review wound after 10 days, goodbye, we don’t need to see you again. I’m in a bit of pain but not too bad & not needing any pain relief. Your video’s very helpful and I’m off to look at your exercise one as wasn’t given any of those either.
Had carpal tunnel surgery yesterday. Endoscopic technique: 60-second operation. Once the anaesthesia had passed, zero pain and I returned to work in the afternoon without any problems. Only 'wrinkle': the anaesthesia. The doctor got the nerve in the first shot and.... ouch! Otherwise... a piece of cake.
I had carpal tunnel release surgery on 11/4/22 and my main therapy tools are knitting, playing on my tablet and using therapy putty (I use the extra firm putty) along with the pain management/desensitization exercises to help with managing pain that is stemming from inflammation from the surgery but also the existing CRPS (chronic pain condition). Edit to add- last week on 11/15/22 I got released from OT! The therapist redid my strength measurements and my range of motion measurements and I am back to my baseline. My pain level is also back to its baseline as well (6/10) with consideration for the crap show of my chronic pain conditions. The one thing that I still need to work on is tolerance to running water on my palm but that intolerance may be due to the CRPS and the allodynia (non painful stimulus is felt/perceived as pain/painful) and that will likely take months to get back IF I ever do which could be never. But I can at least tolerate running water on the rest of my hand and submerging my hand doesn't cause pain.
i had this done recently and my dr told me not to remove the dressing till 2 week appointment to get stictches out. bag on hand to shower. dont lift anythjng but my phone and try to wiggle my fingers. its hell to have this boxing glove on my hand for 2 weeks but the relief was almost instant. all signs of carpal are gone and the injection to the side of my wrist seems to have helped about 60% as a week later I still feel that ache on the side
10/10 - 5⭐️ - you have great advice here on all aspects of CTS. Thank you for sharing and showing all these great tips. I had my surgery a week ago and much like another viewer here, was told that I could use my hand for light use right away. No postoperative physio etc was recommended. I only found out through a friend that I should have been given some exercises as homework.
Thank you for the information, this is great! I'm considering carpal tunnel surgery in the near future and want to be as prepared as possible for post-op recovery. You've provided some great tips and product recommendations - I'm more confident now that the post-op management process will be less stressful when utilizing the information you've shared!😊
Thank you so much for all the very clear information you share...my doctor gave me absolutely no post opt care information.. Or any ideas about what would be normal recovery.....just said at my 2 week check up...you are fine come back in 3 months...I did all the research on you tube and found YOU! You put my mind at ease with your very clear explanations and ways..products to care for myself... Thank you Thank You Thank you!
I think we might have the same doctor. lol I just had mine four days ago and they gave me scant aftercare instructions, too. Everything I learned was from physical therapists and doctors on YT.
Hello there, I had this surgery 8 months ago, in NZ, where th only post op advice I got was, "go home n use ur hand now." So thank goodness for channels like yours!! I just wondered, does that deep, bruised soreness near th scar ever go away? ...
I’ve had 2 hip replacements , a lamanectamy , a spinal fusion oh and 2 disc in my neck replaced. But as of this Friday I am having both hands worked on. Not being able to use them has me completely freaked out to the point my stomach hurts., I need the truth plz . How bad is the pain and recovery.. ? Plz and thanks to anyone who will tell me the truth..
Hlo doctor i had numbness in little finger of right hand. I did exercises by seeing yours video but still numbness not gone. What should i do doctor now😑
Recovery can be different for everybody of course, but big pic, this is a very quick surgery w/ quick & usually easy recovery. I personally think the test to confirm carpal tunnel was 10x worse than surgery & recovery!! Post op I was told to make sure I move my fingers as much as possible, don’t lift anything heavier than a pencil and always keep my hand above my elbow (I used a sling part-time) & even tho 3 fingers were still numb, I had little pain & no pain after day 3. Recovery was in no comparison to the pain I had day & night before surgery….
Thank you so much for all of the informative videos you post, Michelle. What are your thoughts on use of e-stim as a treatment modality as early as one or two months following surgery? I have had someone tell me that their OT is using e-stim (I believe it would be for pain and swelling). However, the incision site is still red, warm, swollen and very painful. I have read some research in favor of e-stim to treat carpal tunnel pre-surgery, but not much about post-surgery.
Thank you so much for this video. My 90 year old mom is about to have surgery in both wrists. I'm purchasing everything you suggested just in case. Thank you again!
I just had the surgery a few days ago. It seems to be healing well, but I’m having numbness in one of my fingers. The surgery was a good surgery because the pain is no longer there but I also have to have it in my other hand.thank you for this video 😊
