Hi Kristina! I really loved your videos and would like to ask more questions - I would like to apply for the VIPKID - however English is my second language (though I work for the past 5 years as a tour guide with people from all over the world) and I was wondering if I could still apply or do I have to be native speaking English only? thank you! xoxo
Hi, Debbie! I'm not sure how your comment slipped by me...sorry about that! I hope that you're still interested in VIPKID! You can apply for VIPKID as long as you have: 1) a bachelor's degree 2) at least one year of experience with kids 3) legal eligibility to work in the US or Canada. Note that in the hiring process, you will teach some demo/mock lessons and you will be evaluated to ensure near-native fluency. :) If you'd like to apply (yay!) please use my personal link and I'd love to help you get hired: www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=6115808&refersourceid=a01 Thanks, Debbie! Good luck to you!
This was super helpful!! This is day 16 for me with VIPKid and for the first time I have back to back class...putting your tips into action, TODAY!! Thanks Tina!!
I loved your suggestion from an earlier video using a dollar table cloth. I take less than 3 minutes a class to screen shot on my phone the slides that can be on the preview mode. Then I go grab the props I need in the morning from the kitchen (mostly real food)...
I find Trello very helpful. It is a free program online that helps to organize things and keep them. Similar to your cards, however, nothing to store. I have set up Trello to tell me the objectives, Vocabulary, Sentence Patterns, and terms. In Trello I also put the props I need. I simply pull up Trello the night before and print it out, gather my props.
BLESS YOU. Signed my contract yesterday and went to bed with 27 classes booked... was definitely not expecting that. Couldn't sleep because I kept dreaming about screwing up on my first day! Terrified to teach 4 classes back to back on my first day but this really helped (and hopefully a nap today will too 😂).
Kristina Garcia Thanks Kristina! I really did ☺️ I have mostly 4s and 5s and I’m definitely still learning how to do all the things (time management, correction, making it fun), but I got some repeat students this week and I am excited to develop more of a relationship with each student. I do have a hard time with knowing exactly what they’ve learned because we don’t have access to all of the curriculum. Do you have any tips to start out?
I really like how you laid out the Lesson Code. That will make it so much easier for me to see what the lesson will be. Love all the tips. I like the tip of using a note book and just jotting down quick reminders about each student. I especially like the tip of opening all the classrooms before hand so that it helps save time. I was wondering how I was going to get to each class. Thanks again.
I found that making a short outline of each lesson really helped me become more familiar with the/ the material and helped me anticipate possible difficulties. So, if I knew they were going to have 4 slides practicing conjugating "to have" then I had to make sure I was really teaching it on the 1st slide. Totally helps with pacing when you take a bit more time up front, and then they whiz thru the rest of them.
Thank you!!! Second class today, another single, but I have 3 B2B tomorrow, and pacing is a challenge for me! Being organized & prepared is CRITICAL for me, and your system matches my style. Thank you!!!!
Thank you, thank you! I found this video to be especially helpful Tina!👍🏼. I appreciate you breaking down step-by-step what the letter codes mean (another mystery decoded)! I really liked your tip at the beginning of the video to open all the slides for each of your classes before your first class begins. I can see how that would be a big time saver. As a new person I'm still learning my way around, learning shortcuts and love finding helpful tips like you provided in this video! Five apples for Teacher Tina!!!🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎
Hi, Teacher Marie!! Oh, I'm so happy that you found this video to be helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting. :) Yes, I think you'll find that loading the slides in each classroom is a big timesaver later on when you're going back-to-back. Thanks again for taking the time to stop by my channel!
Thank you so much. I am new to VIPkids and being summer, there are no bookings yet so I am spending my time preparing! I am also getting ready to certify for Trial Classes so that should help Have a great day!
Tina!!! I got hired!! Your videos were soooo helpful! I've watched many, many people, but I'm pretty certain I added you as my referral so I hope I'm right! Passed my Mock 2 yesterday, now the fun part begins - getting the bookings!!
Hi, Dani! CONGRATULATIONS on getting hired! I haven't seen anyone with your name pop up in my tracking system; I would have been communicating the whole time..hmm...please email me and I'll be happy to send some tips to you! Thanks!!!
For one who has yet to start and is trying to get organized, this was very helpful and I'll definitely be using these tips when I start getting bookings. Thanks so much!
Tina.... You are a doll. I love each of your tips. I do most of them now, but encourages me I actually know what I am doing! Loved your last tip. You are an invaluable asset to our culture. I appreciate you greatly and always look forward to your videos. You are a Rockstar.
Hi, Leigh-Ann! Wow, I am so flattered by your comments!! I can't thank you enough for watching my videos AND encouraging me. I appreciate you!!! :D Any new video requests?
Thank you, Teacher Tina, for these fantastic teaching tips. I have taught about 5 classes and I was actually already doing these. But the index card tip is the icing on the cake for me!! And planning the rewards for each class is super helpful. Thank you very much!!!
Hello, Jane!! Or do you prefer Jane Ann? Teacher Jane? Ha!😃 Thank you so much for swinging by my channel. I'm thrilled to know that my video helped you! I highly value your feedback, so please let me know if there's anything you'd like to see on my channel...and I just may make a video and give you a shoutout! 😁 Thanks again for your kindness and have a great day, Jane!
Kristina Garcia I do prefer Jane Ann. But to my VIPKID kiddos, I go by teacher Jane because it’s easier :) I haven’t gotten to explore you channel much yet, so I apologize if you have a video about this already. But I had a student yesterday who was very distracted and I didn’t even get through all the lesson because I was trying to play along with him, while stills directing him back to the class. Do you have any helpful tips as to how I deal with a student like this? Thanks so much!!!!! Jane Ann
Hi there, Jane Ann! I don't have a video yet about that specific topic, but I think it definitely warrants a video!! In the meantime...I suggest that when you have a distracted student, think about WHAT is distracting your student and use it to your advantage. For example, if your student is distracted by a toy, start to incorporate the toy into the lesson. So, if you were trying to teach "this/that" you could grab one of your props and say, "This is a dog/That is a dog" and then encourage your student to use "This is a____/That is a____" with his distracting toy! I've found that when kids are restless or distracted, it's a signal that I need to adjust my teaching approach. Good luck, Jane Ann!! 😁
Hey Kristina, I hope every new VIPKID teacher, and hopefuls too, will see this video. Excellent overview of practical matters day to day teaching! Especially gracefully handling the back to back classes :-)! Sincerely, Ellen K.
Hello, Ellen! Wow, what a flattering comment! Thanks so much for your kindness. Please let me know if you have any video requests! Happy teaching! :D Tina
Hi, Marie! You're so sweet for taking the time to comment on my video...thanks for the compliments! It's my pleasure. Teaching the littles + coaching the teachers= my passion! :D Let me know if you've got any video requests for me! Thanks again :)
@@KristinaGarcia Have you tried to load more then one classroom lately? I tried the other night but maybe they changed something in the app for computers. The only way to open another class is to exit out of the one that is coming up.
Insider tips are always appreciated, and your organizational skills shine! Thanks for the info -- VIPKID should run so much more smoothly for me -- I will look like an old pro, Tina!
Hi! I love all your videos. They are soooo helpful! I've only been teaching about 7 months, so not that confident. But, I was so relieved to see that I already follow all your preparation steps. The only difference is that I do all the notes etc. on excel spreadsheets. Really saves time and can be pulled up even during the lesson to follow notes, etc. Thank you for all your help!!
Hi, Jean! Thanks so much for being here. It's such a great idea to use Excel...brilliant!! Thank you for sharing. I hope that you continue to gain confidence with each new class! 😊 Tina
Thank you for sharing your tips. Getting organized and setting up a system to follow gives me the stability to relax and enjoy the kids without feeling overwhelmed. 💞
Hi, Shelley! Thanks for visiting my channel and for your sweet comment! It's so true--systems help us not have to waste valuable brain power! Have you been a teacher for a long time?
Hi Tina, I just got started and was so glad to find your video. We both seem to organize the same way. I haven't received the emails your supposed to get after you sign contract so I am winging this. You made me feel confident enough to open and start teaching.
Hi, Lindsay! Congratulations on getting hired...so exciting!!! Sadly, it's too late to add me after you've passed the mock class. I appreciate your wishes to add me, though!
Hi, Karen! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video! My pleasure. Anytime you have a video request, feel free to comment on one of my videos! I'd love to hear what matters to you. Happy teaching! :D Tina
It can take some time to get the bookings that you want. Be sure to check out this video about how to stand out as a teacher: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qlF9pg9Hez4.html. Thank you so much, Kristina!!! All of your tips were super helpful especially the notebook prep for back to back classes. I have not yet started teaching with VIPKid, but I will be sure to utilize the sticky note, index cards, and notebook tips!!
Hello, Ursula! It's a pleasure to meet you. Have you applied to VIPKid, or are you just getting started as a hired teacher? Thanks for your kind comments, Ursula! 😁
@@KristinaGarcia Hello! Thank you for your response! I completed my first mock class today and am scheduled for a second one tomorrow. I will definitely be using the feedback my mentor shared with me.
These are great tips! I'm still a new teacher and I just started getting regulars and major course classes last week. I go ahead and prepare even the classes booked for 1-2 weeks out. I know they might disappear, but I find it helps me to understand the bigger picture of the curriculum and the unit. If the class disappears, at least I'll already have the prep done for the future. I know what's coming up in future lessons for some students and can mention that in the feedback, especially if I feel like we didn't cover something as extensively as I would have liked (I'm still perfecting my timing). I don't expect to prepare so extensively once I'm more experienced and have a fuller schedule, but I think it's helping to personalize the lessons for individual students and demonstrate to their parents that I'm invested in their child's learning.
Hi, Emily! It sounds like you've got a great system that works for you...I love it! That's a good point about getting a better idea about the overall curriculum by preparing far in advance. Interesting point! Those students and parents are very fortunate to have a well-prepared teacher! Thanks so much for stopping by my channel and commenting. :D
Thank you for all your helpful videos. I watch so many and most of it all gets blurred together. You are always so clear, simple, and organized. I officially just started VipKid today! I am so grateful for all your tips!
Hi, Megan! CONGRATULATIONS on getting hired---how exciting! Thank you very much for your patronage on my channel..and for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment! I really appreciate you! Let me know if you have any video requests. :D
Great tips! thank you Kristina for this video. I am a new VIPKID teacher but have experience teaching in a brick and mortar classroom. I found each tip to be practical and plan on utilizing these techniques for my first back to back classes tomorrow. I look forward to watching more of your videos and sharing them with my Vipkid teacher friends :)
Hi, Liana! Welcome to VIPKid!! I think you'll find that it's much quicker to prepare for VIPKid classes than brick-and-mortar classes...phew! Thanks for your comment and for sharing my videos...GOOD LUCK getting started, Liana! :D
Hi, Krista! Welcome to the VIPKID family! I'm thrilled that my video was helpful to you. Let me know if you have any video requests! Thanks for commenting, too. Good luck getting started!! :D
Great tips, Tina! I also do class index cards, but I also add the objectives on the cards AND the props I need. It's all on one card in one place. It makes prepping fast and easy. It was, initially, a huge time investment, but it is paying off nicely now!
Hi, Sheryl! Thanks so much! I love the idea of adding props to the index cards! I don't do that because the way I have my classroom set up, all of my props are within arm's reach....but I could see how that would be a super helpful addition for many teachers!! Yes, lots of things that we do in our classrooms are investments. We reap the benefits of more time for ourselves and less stress later!!! :D
I'm teaching my FIRST CLASS tonight!! I'm excited and nervous and your video is super helpful! I'm working on planning with your 5 steps now! Thanks!!!!
@@KristinaGarcia It went really good!! Thanks so much for the help! I definitely still have some work to do with time management so I don't have to rush at the end, but overall it was a great first experience! I now have 10 more classes booked this week.. 5 in a row on Saturday!!! yikes! I totally wasn't expecting so many since it took me 2 weeks to get my first class that didn't cancel. So, I'll definitely be using your class prep method a lot and the back to back class tip! Thanks again!
Hello, Dawn! It sounds like you did an excellent job! Pacing is a challenge....it gets easier the more you teach, as long as you're tweaking your approach! Wow--it sounds like things are really taking off in your business! HOW EXCITING! So happy that you found this video to be helpful. Good luck and have fun this weekend, Dawn!! :D
This was an excellent video. I learned so much to help me get ready for my first class which I was panicked about. I love your steps. They make so much sense. I also really like your background.
Love, love, love your video on 5 steps to prepare for classes!! I had already started a couple, I try to expedite anything I have to do- and make the process easier- so it was cool to see I had already incorporated a couple of your ideas. And I just have to say- being brand new and having to teach curriculum that one is not familiar with can be daunting, well it did intimidate me anyway. I have taught only 4 live classes- and although my anxiety is lessening- I still am concerned about not having ideal props and knowing precisely how I should present material. This has helped simplify and ease that a bit more, and it makes so much sense and is practical! Thank you so much for sharing!!! Really helpful to me!!!❤️
Hello there, Jeanne-Marie! You are so kind for taking the time to share your experience and feedback about the video...thank you!! 😃 I'm so happy to know that it was helpful to you...and great minds think alike, right? Let me know if you have ideas for future videos! I may even give you a shoutout. 😜
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, Elizabeth!! I think that by putting in a small amount of focused time as we prepare, we save ourselves from a lot of stress! :D Any video requests?
You are definitely one of my go to VIPKID teachers that I look up on RU-vid for advice! I just got hired and I found this video to be very helpful! You remind me of myself in taking notes and putting them on notecards. I did the same for myself for my mock lessons before I was hired. It really does make it easier for ourselves to know what slides are going to be next, information stays in our brains etc. Thank you again for helping us VIPKID newbies! You’re not overwhelming at all and the way you explain how you prepare for lessons is spot on organized and very helpful! Thank you Teacher Tina! 👩🏼🏫💕
Hello, fellow VIPKID teacher!! What is your name, by the way (unless you prefer the anonymity!)? Oh, this comment totally made my day! Thank you for taking the time to watch my channel and leave me lovely comments! I'll be curious to hear how you decide to prepare for your real classes once they start rolling in...maybe you'll still stick with the notecards! It's my pleasure to help newbies and veteran VIPKID teachers alike! WELCOME to the VIPKID family!!!
Thank you so much fellow Teacher Kristina Garcia! Yes...my name is Teacher Jasmine 👩🏻🏫 from California. Lol🌴🌞First I have to get an ethernet cable because although I have WiFi, there’s a delay in my connection when I was speaking to one of my mentors during my mock lessons when she was in China. After that, I think I’ll have to take some workshops, buy a large dripping pan (your suggestion/idea💡love it) and then with watching a few more RU-vid videos I feel I will be comfortable and good to go! 🤗I will definitely share more with you when I get the kiddos rolling in! 🍎😌🙏🏼Thank you again for your videos!
Hi, Teacher Jasmine! :D Yeah, if there's a delay, then the ethernet cord should do the trick! It's very exciting to put together your classroom. I think you'll love the oil drip pan...it's so versatile! Great--I look forward to hearing from you again! Thanks for visiting my channel.
Thank you so, so much for your video. The reminder about the "tips" is such a relief. When I was first hired about one year ago, I was so worried about following the teacher directions. I know I deviated at the beginning to adjust for my students, but wondered what VIPKID would think. I am so glad they changed it to "tips."
Hi, Marcie! Oh, I'm so happy that you enjoyed the video! Yes, I was happy that VIPKID changed the wording from "directions" to "tips" so it felt less mandated. Any good teacher adjusts for her students' needs. :) What is your favorite thing about VIPKID?
Thank you for all of your great videos. You and I think a lot alike, so I appreciate the confirmations. My favorite thing about VIPKID is connecting with so many wonderful families and leaving a legacy for these kids to help change the world.
Thank you, Tina! :) My first class is in the morning and your video helps so much! I’ve been taking so many workshops, but all the truly helpful advice and tips in them can be a little overwhelming. This is a nice, simple, organized approach, and I truly appreciate your help!
Kristina Garcia My first class was good, but not perfect. I guess that will take time. I really loved my student! Having my upcoming slide guide card really helped. Her parents left me a 5 apple rating, which was pretty exciting!
No class is perfect! Happy to hear it went well...and you already have a five-apple rating? WOW!! It should just keep getting better from here! Congratulations and best wishes for your continued success, Stacey. 👍
Thank you this was very helpful! I appreciate your graphics and the way you present the information so concisely. I plan to use your tips for my next classes, the next one will be my 5th:)
Very helpful, thanks so much! I am going to buy colored index cards today! Great way to save info on each lesson! Loved your last tip, too! That is so smart!
Kristina, this was incredibly helpful. Granted, I haven't even applied yet, but I'm getting closer with every video! Lol. Looking forward to working with you. 😊

This is great Kristina! This is exactly what I was looking for to help me get organized and less overwhelmed before teaching my first class!!! Thank you :)
This was great! Your final tip is going to save me so much time. I hadn’t thought to do that. I teach back to back, and still struggle with cutting it dangerously close in getting from room to room. Also, I do use the classrooms tab to enter my classes, but I wonder if the bookings tab would make it even quicker for me. Often times my classes with blend into the next page, and it always seems to take even longer when I am in a rush. Thanks again for this video..Loved it!
Hi, Jennifer! Oh, I'm so happy that you enjoyed my video! Have you tried the trick yet? I'd love to hear what you think of it after you've tried it! :D Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Tina! This video is super helpful and makes me feel so much more prepared and confident to go into my very first class. Thank you so much for putting this together!
Hi Kristina, great video and good to know that my routine is very similar to yours! I don’t do sticky notes, and my notebook became a daily planner from Staples which keeps me organized. I am enjoying my students, I have regulars, and my preVIPS are the cutest! I think I have to freshen up my rewards for Spring though..take care ~ Teacher Tracey EW from Canada...
Hi, Teacher Tracey! It's funny that our routines are similar...I'm happy that this process works for you, too! Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and comment. FYI, rabbit-related rewards seem to be a big hit for the springtime! :) I "feed" real carrots to a giant felt rabbit and the kids enjoy it. I'd love to hear what rewards you end up using! Also....did you get snow today? We're buried in Erie, PA!
Thank you for this video. I was very surprised how little of this basic information (even explanation of the coding for each lesson) does not seem to be in any easily available sources on the app or online site.
One thing I have done that helps with timing and knowing what is next on the slide is set up my iPad with the lesson and then teach from my MacBook while glancing at my iPad and swiping a slide ahead.
Kristina Garcia. I am doing really well. Getting regular bookings and enjoying teaching so much! You look fantastic and your videos are so well done. You are such a professional. Best to you!
Thank you so much! This was beyond helpful. I am new to VIP KID (3 days in) and I love how simple your prep is, I made a quick google doc while I was watching your video of the prep steps. Thank you for taking the time to make this helpful video! I have only taught one trial class, and I couldn't pronounce my students name (it was Chinese and three words) :/ Has that ever happened to you? I know next time to maybe google the pronunciation of names before class so I don't run into that problem again.
Hello, dear! First of all....welcome to VIPKID! So happy to have you join us!! :D I love that you made a quick Google Doc of the prep steps. I appreciate you watching my video. Yes, I've had it happen that I've not been able to understand a student's name (especially in trial classes, the students sometimes haven't chosen "English names" yet). Googling the pronunciation is a great idea. As for me, I usually introduce my own name first and then ask the student for his/her name. I try to repeat it and give a thumbs-up/down and say, "yes or no?" I'll repeat it and jot it down (how I hear it) to reference during the class. I'll also make a note in the parent feedback that I did my best to pronounce their child's name correctly but I'd love to hear their input and tips (this also increases the chance that parents will leave feedback...an added perk!). Does that answer make sense? I've been considering making a short video to address this concern and I appreciate your input!
I wish my mentor had referred me to this particular youtube vid before I ever attempted my Mock 1 & 2 classes. Since I wasn't successful in my first to attempts and still haven't been offered a job I feel you've more than prepared me to have the confidence to move forward in the process. Thank you Tina. You truly are a credit to the profession!
Hi, Carol! Well, I'm happy that you've found my channel then...thanks for your kind words! I work hard to provide valuable content for online teachers, so I really appreciate your praise! :D GOOD LUCK!!
Thank you so much for this video, Kristina! My first class is tomorrow and I'm so stressed and nervous that I'll mess up. Definitely going to use your tips to help prepare :)
Hi, Stefanie! Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure how I missed your comment! How did your first class go? So happy to hear that the tips were helpful to you!! 😁 Thanks for visiting my channel!
Kristina Garcia It went great! The nerves went away instantly and I’ve now been teaching for a month. It’s so much fun! I’ve been watching more of your videos since and it’s made everything so much easier. Please keep up the good work!
I wish I found you before I assigned a referral for myself. You think so similarly to me and this video is soooo helpful!!! I'm definitely going to follow you! :)
Hi, Barbara! I'm happy that we were able to catch up online. You'll do great! Thanks for sharing that my videos are helpful to you....mission accomplished! 😁
Thank you for leaving a kind comment for me...I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the video! It's my pleasure. Please let me know if you have any other video requests! :D Cheers, Tina
I'm about to have my upper level Mock 2. Did yoga, having tea, practice a little for Mock and pamper myself. I'v got all my obj.s and ?'s prepared. Flexible, teachable, and eager!
Hey, what do you think about the CLB and PLB? I know your notebook outline which is great, but have you looked into The Personal/Collaborative Lesson Bank? What are your thoughts??
Kristina Garcia awe thank you! I'm happy to be here! Your recent video about getting bookings was really great! I'm signing up for as many workshops as possible because I know I'll succeed 😊 A video on feedback would be great! I'm also curious about taxes, but I know that's a touchy subject!
Oh, I'm happy that my video about bookings helped you! Attitude makes a big difference. :) I will certainly consider those topics (especially the feedback one...you're right that taxes are a touchy subject and I'm not an expert about them). Thanks for the suggestions, Ashley!!
I've watched several of Kristina's videos and I think I'm starting to sound like a broken record. Well, heck, I'll say it again anyway - another great video! Thank you for sharing!
