Installing a slide-in camper from Four Wheel Campers yields limitless opportunities for adventure. If you have a plastic bed liner, it must first be removed before you proceed. This is an important step, as revealed in our latest video; it’s too compressible and slippery and will cause the camper to move around. The liner usually lifts out, while plastic bed rail covers and spray-on liners can stay on.
We’ll show how to get your truck ready, including removing the tailgate and important elements such as tie downs, wiring, tires, and suspension-the four most important things to consider when installing a slide-in camper. Eye bolts are installed to secure the camper to the truck. Use of the electrical plug is explained and some considerations when selecting a used camper are discussed.
During a full demo of removing the tailgate, you’ll get tips for disconnecting backup camera wiring and using a secondary backup camera. The demonstration moves on to under the hood, where battery terminals should be checked for corrosion or rust. We’ll also explain how to prepare and add connections and show the addition of fused positive and ground wires.
Other details covered include suspension upgrades, including shocks and air bags, for better handling when your slide-in camper is attached. We also recommend and show E rated truck tires, which must be the proper size for your truck.
