Here's the 3-pack of aerosol cans I used in this video and the flexible wand that attaches to the aerosol can: amzn.to/48oBwYi
You've got to protect your vehicle from corrosion due to road salt and de-icing chemicals
otherwise they're just going to rust away - if you're a subscriber you've seen plenty of that.
A vehicle's body has all kinds of spaces and cavities that you can't see where moisture and salt can get in and cause rust, especially around spot welds. I'm talking about the insides of quarter panels,
doors, rocker panels, tailgates, fenders, even hoods. In this video I'm going to go through this vehicle with a flexible wand and fluid film aerosol can and access all these areas and coat the inside with fluid film to hopefully prevent any rust from happening on this 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser in the future.

In germany we use selfmade protection made out of 90% petroleum jelly and 10% beewax. It must be heat to 250°F (about 120°C). It can be sprayed on or painted on. It will stay for a very long time. After 10 years you can repaint it again. Its very inexpensive and does not harm the environment.

This is an excellent idea! How do you heat and spray the mixture? Regular paint gun?

Nice, I was actually thinking about using this on my 2010 Miata, its my daily year round driver. So yea, my vehicle choices are not in the top 100.......I had never seen the kit with the spray tube like that before, very cool.

How convenient to have a good video on this with an 80 as the subject. Luckily my 97 is pretty darn clean underneath, considering, but I’ve been planning to do this before winter. Thanks for the reminders on all the little nooks and crannies to get into!

It's a great piece of mind to know that this job has been done before taking it out in winter weather. 80's are a beast in the snow... Enjoy!

I'm jelly as hell. You guys seem to have all the rust free EF civics. All the Honda groups I'm in are filled with PNW guys. I've got a Georgia owned '89 Wagovan and love the thing but they even rust down there.

I spray my winter tire rims inside and out with fluid film, it forms a mat black tough film that doesn't wash off, similar to what you see on the bottom of a car door that's been sprayed.

I do a light coat on mine before winter too. I just cleaned them off with a pressure washer last week. It's so good to see them clean again!

There's a link in the description for the cans + wand. The wand I had worked great for a while, then started leaking. Now they sell a 3 pack of cans with a wand included for those exact cans, so it should work better hopefully.

Hello, I just acquired a 2nd gen Tacoma. Was wondering if I can spray FF in the water drain holes at the bottom of the door. Am worried because I don’t want it to clog water from the FF. Thanks as always! Also I heard FF swells up rubber would it be safe to spray it near the weatherstripping?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 2 года назад
Yes you can spray in the bottom of the doors, just don't over do it and clog the drain hole. That protection in the bottom of the inside of the door panel is important. I have had FF swell some rubber trim and not others. My Toyotas have been OK, but the weatherstripping on the hood of my acura swelled up noticeably.

Is it ok to use on rubber, or rather have you had any problems? I saw some comments somewhere that said it makes some rubber not resistant to oil soft and sag. Also have you ever used the Fluid Film Black? Is it the same thing only in black? Thanks
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 3 года назад
On my acura I found it did cause the rubber beneath the front edge of the hood to expand a little. I've never had any problems with bushings or hoses though. I haven't used black, but I've read that it's the same formula, just black on color. I stick to the original because it's a little less messy if I have to do any suspension work, being somewhat yellow instead of black.

Do you have water leaking issues from those sliding trunk windows?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 3 года назад
If I spray them from the outside with the hose nozzle on full blast, a tiny bit of water will drip on the inside. But under normal conditions, they are good. I did clean out the channels when I first bought the toyota. They were full of pine needles and dirt.

How long does it take to dry/cure on underside before driving again?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 2 года назад
You can drive instantly, as it always stays kind of greasy until after a couple of trips down dusty roads and it will get a layer of dirt on top of the fluid film.

How many aerosol cans would you need to coat a f150 SuperCrew? 6 would be enough of the 333g?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 8 месяцев назад
I don't think 6 is enough, especially if you're spraying inside of the frame and the underside of the vehicle. I'd buy 12 for the first time, just to have enough on hand.

is it worth doing on an older car since it already has started rusting?

It will slow it down from rusting more, but it won't stop it completely.

My only concern is can you wash your car after doing this ??? Lol will it wash off in an automatic car wash which uses and undercarriage spray or does it have to be done by hand ?

Smells like strong mink oil you would use on your baseball gloves or leather products. It's an natural oil from animal's fur (sheep) but doesn't smell that bad (to me).

Hey dude. How many cans of Fluid Film do you need for an 80 as you did it?
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 2 года назад
I used 3 for everything I did in this video, plus I sprayed some inside the frame holes. I had already done the underside using a spray gun and bulk gallon. (I only used about half of the gallon)

When I see these rotted cars, I wonder do these people do literally anything about the salt? Even an undercarriage wash weekly will help. I do not understand.
@6thGearGarage
@6thGearGarage 2 года назад
It's amazing how many people do nothing. I guess they don't plan on keeping the car for a long time, then it ends up rotting out on a future owner.
@ron4413
@ron4413 Год назад
If you have fluid film under your car, you are better off not doing the undercarriage spray. People on youtube actually did tests on that. If you don't have fluid film, you still might be better off not doing the undercarriage spray because it keeps it wet. I use to pressure wash the underside of my cars weekly and they still rotted out so bad they wouldn"t pass inspection. My son did the undercarriage spray all the time and we just sent his car to the crusherI it was unbelievable how rusted the underside was and it only had 67,000 miles on it but was 20 years old. Fluid film is the way to go otherwise it's going to rot.
