Rather than trust timing how long it takes to refill my black tank, I use a flow meter on the incoming water hose connection to measure how many gallons have been added. Just be sure you don't walk away and forget!
@@irm1133 The flow meter shows how much water you're putting into the tank. If your tank is 40-gal and the flow meter shows 20-gal, then you've filled half of the tank.
Thank you for sharing this video; it really helped us out! We followed the steps with a slight variation. For those still experiencing issues, give this a try: use an expandable hose fitting and attach it to a garden hose. It acts like a balloon, sealing any gaps in the pipe. This allows water to flow freely, filling the septic tank or black tank. You can even top off your tank a bit more by applying controlled pressure, which is possible with this method, unlike the gravity-based approach shown in the video. And remember, if you don’t use water in your black tank, it can lead to clogs. The waste needs to be able to settle in water; otherwise, it dries and hardens, creating a layer of waste and debris that can lead to clogs. Additionally, in case of a serious problem, remember to keep your black tank closed for a couple of days before draining it. Just being connected to a septic system isn’t enough; the tank needs a constant 5 to 10 gallons of water to maintain the proper level and allow sediment to settle at the bottom.
do-do... lol I wasn't paying attention but letting it play so you guys got the view time until I heard that giggle. If you are still hooked up to water, we found a Johnny Chock is an easy way to do a flush without dealing with the extra hose.

Great information. Always wear gloves!!!!! You can sit on a table but don't put $#!+ on the table. Timing how long it takes to fill the tank is a great idea. To figure out how much you put in to travel divide the time it takes to fill it by the amount you want in the tank. 10 min (fill time) ÷ 5 = 2 min Fill for 2 min to get 1/5 of a tank. ÷2 = 5 min = 1/2 tank ÷3 = 3.33 min ( 3 1/2 min) = 1/3 tank Etc.
Good thinking! The only thing that I did find, is that different water pressures obviously affect the full rate, I would retime it at every site. I can confirm that I never sit on tables. They drilled that lesson into us at school
@@BrazenBrits Us too. If the cafeteria lady caught us 3 times we would get detention and have to clean all the tables, including scraping any gum off... No gloves

Great black tank tips. We haven’t done Happy Camper yet, but on our list. We leave grey open at campsites and then close up a day or two before we leave to clean the hoses out. 👍🏼❤️
We tried to leave ours open a few times, but kept forgetting to close it a day before we move on. Do you guys have a washer? I think we’d leave it open if we used a washer. Only twice have I had to shout through to Natalie to go open the grey tank mid shower 🤣🤣🤣
Very helpful video especially for us newbies. Clarifying question. To fill the black tank you would be sure your blank tank is closed and then connect your hose to the blank tank flush and turn it on?
Yup, exactly! Make sure it’s all closed, then use the black tank flush to fill up the tank. Or if you don’t have one, just flush the toilet for a long time. DON’T FORGET ABOUT IT THOUGH or you’ll end up flooding your trailer with the contents of the black tank!! 💩💩💩💩💩
Happy camper is great it really dissolves everything to ease the flow! I have a 30 gal black tank and use 10 gal of water, one capful of Dawn detergent and one capful of Calgon to travel home with then use my blue boy to empty the tank.
