@@Jojosiwo In my personal experience, my ingrown hairs left severe scars that make me extremely embarrassed to even wear shorts in the summer. When I was younger, my family used to shame for not shaving, so I started doing it, which then made the whole problem even worse. Now I'm having treatment for it and it's getting better. Sometimes we think that some things seem stupid, but for others they matter a lot.
Also… you could shave going with the grain not against the grain. Sure you don’t get the super baby smooth close shave… but you also don’t have all the bumps to deal with after, and may have to shave more often then not. The electric razors are a life savor as well especially for legs and armpits
@@thecholones Don't call me dumb when you literally can't spell "as" and still didn't notice your mistake after editing your comment. Sorry for assuming since that person said it costed so much, it actually did. *SOOOOOOOOO illegal.* Also, it really depends on how fast you grow hair on your body. Mine grows in two weeks or a little more. So ME doesn't go once every month. + No way it is up to me??? And I was recommending what I used *bUdDy.*
For scars I would use Palmer's fade cream. The downside to that is they all have retinol, so if it's on your face you really need to use sunscreen. If you don't use the sunscreen you'll just be damaging your skin and you'll get even darker spots. If you apply the cream on your arm, leg etc. all you have to do is cover your arm with long-sleeve and legs with pants.
This is how I prevent ingrown hair: 1. Waxing over shaving 2. Using a 2% salicylic acid wash on the area before waxing and also 2-3 times the week before waxing. No scrub. 3. On dry skin (no lotion or moisturizer), wax 4. Applying aloe gel with vitamin E and allantoin on the area after waxing (can use any anti inflammatory product but I recommend aloe) 5. After aloe gel dries, 12% lactic acid cream (one can use 10% lactic acid and also lactic acid with urea) 6. Again apply this cream the next 3-4 days instead of regular moisturizer on the waxed area. I've really sensitive skin and my skin gets inflamed, red and bumpy immediately but doing this I get ✨SMOOTH✨ skin. Zero ingrown hair.
Pass on waxing, rather use hair removal products or sugaring so I don't feel like I'm about to die of pain😘 Also, scrubs are super helpful in preventing ingrown hairs and strawberry legs
To prevent them is to exfoliate and use clippers to trim the hair just above the skin instead of a razor that will cut the hair just below the skin and shave a layer of skin causing skin to heal and grow over that hair that was just shaved below the skin. Thus, causing ingrown hairs
I was just about to say this!!!! Once I realized that my curly hairs we're going to keep getting trapped under my skin if I kept shaving so close to the skin, I went out and bought an electric razor and it has 'shaved' my life
@@SareBear2000 electric razors are much more convenient tbh yes you don’t get that insane close shave but you can do it even when you’re not in the shower and no bumps. I started using it for my armpits as well. I would always get irritated skin under my arms from shaving
Yeah literally, and then what, are you supposed to never shave again? 😂 That's like saying if you don't wanna burn your tongue, don't eat hot food ever again!
@@427skieswomen don’t have the same issues as men as far as facial hair is concerned. Now on the area down there? Ya I’ve had to pluck quite a few for an ex. They happen when you shave. Exfoliating doesn’t help shaving the right way doesn’t help it just happens it’s the maintenance after the fact that helps it to heal the fastest and that’s the answer I am here for lol 😂
Be careful with these. I had one that grew into a pylonidal cyst and, no exaggeration, almost killed me. Emergency surgery to remove a tennis ball sized cyst inside my body that put me into septic shock. On the surface it was just an ingrown hair on my belt line
My boyfriend had a nasty blackhead on his back. I messed with it and that allowed it to start coming to the surface. Thought it turned into a zit and I squeezed it getting quite a lot of puss before the core shot out. It was like almost half an inch in length. Turned out it was a very impacted hair follicle. It had so much nasty built up behind it
When I’m rich one day I’m gonna have everything Lazered the fuck off me except my eyebrows and hair on my head and shit like that. That’s the fucking dream right there!
I actually always get this in two areas, Pubic region and eyebrows. Surprisingly they actually never get infected or even have a pimple of any kind, They just stay under the skin with the eyebrows. So you have to usually just dig them out and get them, And that usually takes me a few weeks or sometimes months to get rid of it. Pubic region does go a little red and inflamed but nothing too serious, Again needing to dig/bleed them out with tweezers until they can be plucked!
I'd suggest doing a little less of digging around and just take a warm bath! It often opens up pores and makes it easier at least for me to get them out!
I was wanting to die just yesterday over this exact topic lol. I hate pulling them out😭 I never knew a warm bath could help with it. A video I’ve needed for years lol
Jada Kennedy says on her channel: 1) stop shaving 2) let the hair grow 3) get a waxing 4) after waxing use a brush to exfoliate 5) don't pick, it can cause the hair to break off or turn and start growing inwardly instead of outwardly. On one of her videos, I don't remember which one, a client had an ingrown hair looped into her bikini area twice. By the time Jada carefully pulled it out the hair had to be a least two inches long.
I hardly eve rshave... I sometimes even just trim... And i wax... Yet. The painful big swelling ingrown hairs never disappeared... Been dealing with it from a young age .. i wish I could just say "it's gone with not shaving" ....good to hear you found your solution though
Skin doctors ingrown hair lotion has been a life saver on my legs. I dont know whether it works on ones that create bumps on your skin, but if you get ones on your legs that are straight and you can see the hair under the skin, i use this on a cotton pad and the hair just pops out & then i tweeze/shave. I used to dig them out with tweezers but then they would become inflamed. We can't all afford laser but the lotion is affordable!
@IKEMEN..Try exfoliating with warm water before and using Olive Oil instead of shaving lotions.. or soap… I have never had another ingrown hair since using it… and it makes your skin really soft.
Ah damn, I didn't know the only way to prevent ingrown hairs was to support your industry for treatments insurance doesn't cover and can cost thousands of dollars. Thanks man
I typically don’t get ingrown hairs, but when I do I definitely use warm/hot water first and use a tweezer to extract the hair. (Pubic area) Before I shave my legs I use a scrub (on my legs ONLY) and then lather it with a moisturizing body wash. Shaving creams honestly dry my skin. So use your body wash (I use Aveeno) and shave lightly, never press against your skin. That can cause irritation and redness. After I get out I use baby lotion to soften my skin and to keep it hydrated. Another way to prevent ingrown hairs (pubic area) is to let your hair GROW! Do not be one of those people that shave every single day. Give your hair some time to regrow to where the shave is easy and smooth.
You can also let your hair grow out completely instead of shaving. It's very effective for preventing in grown hairs, but I understand that not everyone is comfortable with this option.
the 10 COMMANDMENTS for PREVENTING RAZOR BUMPS & INGROWN HAIRS 1. THOU SHALT NOT USE DIRTY BLADES! Avoid shaving with dull, over-used razor blades. And be sure to keep your slightly used tools as clean as possible. Scrub the cutting heads of your tools with soap, hot water, and rubbing alcohol to destroy bacteria. Pro Tip: even brand new blades still need to be cleaned. 2. HONOR THY DELICATE SKIN! Avoid too many blades! If you are prone to ingrown hairs then you don’t need 3 or more blades. More blades equal more passes causing the hair to fall beneath the skin and become ingrown. Plus, more blading the skin leads to micro cuts through which bacteria is more likely to enter and this leads to razor burn. 3. DO NOT TAKE PREP TIME IN VAIN! Wash or steam the skin for 2 to 3 minutes with warm water. Then apply the shaving cream leaving it on for at least 2 minutes to really soften the hair. 4. THOU SHALT NOT GO AGAINST THE GRAIN! Shaving against the grain (upwards) may get you a closer shave but doing so also increases ingrowns. Shave in the direction of hair growth…it’s usually downwards. Confirm this by doing a face/ body inspection to see which way your hair grows. 5. THOU SHALT NOT PRESS! Avoid pressing too hard on the skin with the blade. If you follow STEP #3, then a gliding, light touch is all you need. The hair stubble should literally fall away with little or no pressure from the blade. Pressing hard is the main cause of shaving irritation! Be gentle so as to prevent the hair from being cut so low that it falls beneath the top layer of skin. 6. THOU SHALT NOT PASS, PASS, PASS! Avoid too many quick passes with the blade. One pass per hairy area - going 1-2 inches downward at a time - will prevent ingrown hairs. Always shave like you might cause damage, not like you’re mowing the front lawn. 7. THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT OVER SHAVING! Avoid shaving too often. This rule is hard to follow, especially if you have to be beardless for your job…but if you are prone to ingrowns, try hair removal with electric clippers (the barber kind of clippers). The results are not super close but no one but you will know the difference. Provided your skin can handle these alternatives try waxing, depilatory, lasering or an epilator. 8. THOU SHALT NOT CLOG! Avoid using skin/pore clogging creams or lotions since they keep hairs from growing up. After a shave, keep your skin bare; let the tiny army breath, and allow those newly shaved, microscopic hairs to grow out just in time for the next shave. If your objective is smooth, bump-free skin following a shave or wax, then right after hair removal allow the skin to heal first. Promote healing by proper shaving techniques followed by 70% rubbing alcohol which kills any bacteria that may enter those micro cuts created from the shave and prevents the onset of razor burn. Sure your skin will be a little dry at first but this is a temporary tradeoff. Wait 2 hours then moisturize. 9. KEEP THY SMOOTH SKIN FREE! At least for the first day or two, try to avoid tight fitting clothing around the Adam’s apple (neck) and/or below the waistline region. Newly shaved hair follicles need room to grow up. 10. REMEMBER TO EXFOLIATE! Whether you shave, sugar, wax or epilate, not enough exfoliation to remove excess layers of skin can lead to ingrown hairs. There are two types: chemical exfoliation (AHA, BHAs) and physical exfoliation (beads, coffee scrubs, gloves, brushes). Exfoliators like the WIZKER brush have soft and firm bristles. When you follow these 10 tips religiously, you’ll prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs permanently!
Been dealing with this since i started growing hairs as a child... Like bikini line.... I think i can't avoid laser treatment anymore... I'm sick and tired of getting these huge painful bumps down there bc of ingrown hairs... Having 3 ingrown hairs at the moment...i can't even get them out. And going to a dermatologist?.every so few weeks if not days? Hell nah.... Saving up for laser treatment it is :/
@Hermine..Have u tried exfoliating the skin with warm water before u shave? Also, if you use Olive Oil as a “shaving lotion”… instead of soap or traditional shaving lotion…. You will stop getting them! I swear by olive oil… I’ve never had an ingrown hair since I started using it….And it’s way cheaper than laser treatments.
It's worth it. Believe me. I was in the same boat, I even was on prescription lotion to apply to the area after each shave just to prevent SOME of the ingrowns (I still regularly got them, but it helped). I've gotten laser and I'll never look back. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of them/prevent them and nothing worked. Sometimes your genetics are just built different.
@@pammaggio8135 i use a cream from lush at the moment...since usual shaving foam kinda makes my legs itch afterwards and have all these red dots after shaving.

@@musiccfreakk1996Be Same thing with me. It can get bad. Big inflamed areas with deep hairs that can't even be removed for a long time because they're too deep. It sucks. Good luck with your treatment.
When I was in 6th grade I decided to shave my legs in the shower with my moms razor, but I did it wrong and every single hair got ingrown 😂 it was so gross and painful, scared me away from shaving for a while
I've been shaving my face with a straight razor for a while now. I've noticed I don't get ingrown hairs anymore. Disposable razors aren't all that great for face shaving.
I think I have a few ingrown hairs on my legs. I've been lucky enough to never have them, but now I'm worrying about how painful it is to get rid of them 😅
Meanwhile everyone :- *listing to the doctor 😷 * Le me :- * ohh 😯 did he just put bts lite stick there! * OMG I'm goona like this video 📹 for my bts!! 💜
I was, really really hairy as a kid and an adult. And it has caused much pain for me, even if I didn’t shave my body. When I was around 13 puberty hit me like a freaking train wreck. My hair face and body got really out of control, same with my voice, everyone thought I was the man of the house, when ever I answered the phone and I could not get the girls off of me because of my very very deep voice. I tried shaving my face ONCE after my facial hair began growing, that was a real painful awakening for me. That was me at 13, I’m now 35 and my face has not been touched with a straight razor since, and that’s including body hair as well. I’ve have many electric clippers that I’ve used in my life to trim hair off of me, “face and body” but even then I still get ingrowns all over me. I could go years with trimming body hair, but for some reason my body just don’t give a shit and still give me ingrown hairs. My face it doesn’t happen though. Oh and my deep voice when I was 13 and so one was a very great ful advantage for me, for whenever the school would call my house, lol cus they would assume I was my dad LMAO 🤣
Personally I pop them, and move the hair so I know it's no longer under the skin, and just allow it to heal around. I find that if I remove the hair without letting it heal around first, I end up with ingrowns all over again. I hope this helps and have a lovely day!
I sometimes get ingrown hairs around my beard. I usually let them "come up" to a point where they feel like a pimple. Then I scratch the first layers of skin off, so the hair can be "popped" out. Tell him to stop when he starts bleeding. He shouldn't bleed while doing this. I'm absolutely no professional, that's just how I do it and it works perfectly fine for me. I don't have issues with this technique, but I have no idea if you should actually do this with ingrown hairs, so please keep that in mind.
I had one on my back, I ripped it open and I think I got the hair out, it then healed over as a lump again, then a couple of weeks later I picked at it and a load of dry stuff came out and it went flat again and seems perfectly healed though. Not saying you should rip it open (might scar), but it worked for me.
I had extremely bad ingrown hairs, that would need to be pulled, and then they wounds would immediately get infected. The wounds would create craters and that would led to more ingrown hairs. Nothing helped. I had full body laser hair removal in 2012. It is still working for me and I am just so very grateful that it worked.
I thought I had an ingrown hair once instead it was a normal hair I just accidentally aggressively plucked it with a tweaser lol If anyone was curious it was on a mole I had on my thigh.
If you shave and get these, instead maybe try waxing. It typically doesn’t cause ingrown hairs because instead of simply cutting the hair it pulls it out of the follicle. It also apparently makes the follicles smaller each time you wax so the hair grows back thinner. You can also exfoliate after shaving and it should help as well but not like waxing will
I’ve treated my own ingrown hairs, sure I constantly have infections, the trick is to remove the pus to the point the liquid going out is red then pull the hair out with tweezers
I use a needle and a tweezer to pull those out of my husband’s neck , i feel horrible because it’s a little painful , but he doesn’t want laser so i do it every time a hair is stuck ☹️
Love your doctor as a fellow doc and as a person who forgets to be a doc while being a patient. Could you do a video on which technic is better between electrolisis and laser for all ethnicities or hair types? Laser didnt do much for my 3C hair on my armpits :(
I used to get these in my public area, I just quit shaving so often, and I use an electric trimmer that doesn't get quite to the skin, or let it go natural
Beard trimmers are your best bet IMO. I get ingrown hairs no matter which hair removal method I use, so I usually go for trimming to keep it from bothering me. I might ultimately end up getting electrolysis/laser removal if it helps me from picking at my hair follicles/skin.
You can also try shaving the old fashioned way with lots of hot water a brush and shaving soap and safety/straight razor. Probably not as good as laser removal but also very good for your skin and helps prevent ingrowns by "prepping" the hairs for shaving.
Doc believe it or not applying an onion 🧅 slice to the effected area immediately and use for about 2 days.(refreshing the onion every few hours) Doesn’t smell the best but I promise it works !
Or just do a peeling once or twice a week and put on some lotion. Dead skin cells will get removed, so ingrowns won't get trapped. If you keep you skin smooth soft and hydrated, the hair will have it easier to get out oft the skin, plus you will reduce pimples as well
I used to do my beard with the rasor, always did, until it gave me skin problems without even going against the hair (bumps-pimples-ingrown hairs) and one that got ingrown turned into a tiny cist so i stopped. I now use an electric shaver and i suggest to get and use one as soon as you see the problems i mentioned before, no need to use shaving foam or gel and your skin will thank you!
