Have you ever had a center cap go missing on you? We've all seen cars driving around with missing caps. Lets face it, thats not a pretty look! We're going to show you how to prevent that from happening to you!
I purchased some caps for my car-after market and they fell off also. This video helped. If your a car lover like me then you know the pain. Silly I know but still. So thanks!!!
people this is perfectly fine to do . instead of putting the silicone in all the tabs . put it in just 3 . and it will come off without a big deal .cheers
I just replaced one of my caps. I suspect thieves are about as much to blame as no glue. It seems to always happen when I drive through bad neighborhoods.
i had both front caps fall off on my 1 year old 2020 pruis AWD.. Dealer agreed under my 36k factory warranty! to replace them...mayb..after warranty i will try your advice.. sounds like this problem has been around for a long time! NOW in 2021 they cost 30$ a piece..sounds like a long time scam!
The center caps from my chrome wheels keep coming loose and falling off while driving. They are hella expensive....$54 dollars each to replace. I had to replace 2 within a week. I will not replace any more. How will this help my case? They have to be removed in order to get to the lug nuts so I find this impractical for me.
Ofcourse not. Hot glues are not meant for metal/steel(rims) to plastic (center caps) bonding. The glue will just melt off during high speeds and long driving hours.
They do come off specially the ones on the front wheels. When you've been driving long periods, the bore area of the wheels(where the caps are placed) tend to get hot as well. This hot metal or steel surface will then bend and deform the tabs of your caps. This bend (even in just a fraction of a millimeter), with the aid of those road bumps during high speeds will be enough to loosen your caps and make them fall off from your rims.
Do you think this method could work for center caps that don't fit? Meaning, I want my OEM caps on my aftermarket wheels but they are just barley long enough
I would think so. Worst case you can give it a shot and it doesn't work, then all you need to do is peel the silicone off. There won't be any damage to the wheels caused by the silicone.
That is one stupid idea ....when you take in your car for rotation and balance which you have to do every 3 to 5 thousand miles, your center cap needs to come of which silicon prevents that from happening. ...and in result you're cap has to be broken off
The idea is not stupid at all...what's stupid is you jumping to a conclusion without thinking. The clear silicone is flexible and only weakly adhesive, so it simply peels away with minor effort. It is strong enough to hold the cap in place, but is easily removed and completely non-destructive. This is in fact an EXCELLENT idea.
Groatnasty ....cool I guess you win, hahaha ...I've worked at a tire place where people came in with there caps siliconed on .....every time the cap broke ...what im saying its my previous experience so im not just jumping to conclusion. ..and yes most were clear silicon
Reynaldo Linares thing is not to use too much silicone and at least this silicone prevents thieves getting the caps easy. and THAT is the reason to all this thing to avoid getting caps robbed.....
