Fantastic video. Thank You very much for your information! I'm usually a maintenance kinda guy and as far as building goes, fencing is where I always draw the line😂 With someone recently asking me for a slabbing job, your video was extremely helpful!

No worries jake I'm glad it helped you out a little, I remember when I started and just not knowing how to price correctly, I originally started on maintenance, then fences then patios and just loved landscaping, so ended up doing it for years now I've jumped over to construction lol and helping build houses but always jump back to landscaping. Glad the video helped. Thanks for commenting 🙏 Let us know how you get on 👍

In my experience the first thing that happens is.........I answer the door to see a chap rubbing his hands together all wide eyed and giddy after seeing the house and what cars are on the driveway, during a conversation its a given that I'm asked "so what do you do for a living". The quote comes in and its generally 10%-15% higher than the conversation suggests 🤣 I was once quoted 12k for a set of electric gates........seems reasonable you say!?! But it didn't include running power to them so I'd have to get my own sparky 🤣🤣 what a clown.

Unfortunately some people do try it on, especially if they think you have "the money" . Personally always charged materials with a percentage on top and labour. I've always found people appreciate being fair , and we always get extras added on plus extra work in the future plus recommended to friends and family, I've always add a percentage to cover wear and tear on tools and vehicles plus running costs. We're are you based?

How do you decide to add 10% or 30%?

Generally decide on distance and the further away/more driving also if there's more risk e.g a chance on running over with labour, basically the more chance of risk/travel I'll put on a higher percentage and if it's a nice straightforward local job I'll put on a lower percentage. It also covers cutting blades and fuel ect. I only ever put on aggregates and waste and ancillaries , never charge on finished products like slabs. Do you usually quote or estimate?

How do you get round this is the customer is willing to provide the materials? Do you include as a separate line in the quote with along with labour

How do you mean? if the customer is willing to provide materials then the quote would be just on labour if this was the case I would most like charge on a day rate and not a price on labour. If I still had to drive to pick up materials I would either make my day rate slightly higher to cover costs of fuel ect or charge a haulage fee on top of every material picked up.
