Sounds about right for a non vat price ,I have to charge vat so I have to make it 20% cheaper than an electrician working from home with not many overheads so you would make more from it than me but luckily I'm normally pricing against other vat companies so normally get the jobs. Alot of new customers dont go with the cheapest but with the middle price so dont make it too cheap. 1 job we had was to change all the lights in 2 blocks of private flats .the cheapest was about £5000 I was £8000 and the 3rd was £12000 and I got the job , with many other jobs after that without any quotes

Check out John Ward's video on cooker circuits. 4mm is sufficient for a 32amp breaker rather than 6mm. 6mm was only used because of the correction factor associated with a 30amp bs3036 fuses. We've all been wasting money on 6mm we didn't need 🤣🤣

I'd heard that the reason light fittings were put nearer the window is so that the first electric lights mimicked natural daylight. The off centre pendants were definitely a thing from at least the 30s right through to the 60s. In hindsight though I've come across small terraced houses from 1900-1910 both sides of the Pennines where they've asked me to add a central pendant to a dining/living room with only wall lights, and upon taking up the board in the middle of the bedroom there's been a defunct gas pipe centrally Edit: I'm in Sheffield, similar spec but Crabtree board and only T&E to switches, no VAT, no making good, estimate off the top of my head would be 4-5k. If the switch drops will pull into existing conduit/capping think I'd give the customer the option of surface mounted sockets above the skirting to save on the making good other than the kitchen. If you need to put an earth rod in I'd be lifting one of those flags at the side of the garage I think. Out of interest would you put the board somewhere like 1.2-1.5m from the floor in that cupboard, with maxi trunking up and down?

Hopefully that gas water heater in the bathroom is not working any more..that's realy dangerous. Here in Portugal there used to be many like that, but it's been made illegal several years ago. It's funny to see how different things are even between european countries. I've remodeled an old 1960's house and the wiring was terrible..everything running on 1mm2 cable, on just one circuit without any earth.. The "only safety feature" is that we run much lower amps to the houses here..most people have the basic tariff which limits the available power to 15amps..limiting the possibility of those wires melting..

@Ragnar8504
@Ragnar8504 4 года назад
I've seen worse! How about sockets wired with 0.75 mm2 flex buried in the wall? Granted, they were on a 10 amp fuse but that's bad enough. The route the flex took inside the plaster across the wall looked more like crooked stairs than straight lines too. My best guess was Italian sparks after two bottles of grappa because they used Italian sockets everywhere and Italians loved that flat two-core flex for fixed wiring back then. In another place I had kitchen sockets fed off of a piece of the same 0.75 mm2 flex, no earth, fed from a 16 amp radial. Decent fire starter I'd say! The fabric-covered rubber wires for the hall ceiling lights were all burned to a nice crisp up into the plaster & lath ceiling. It isn't all that unusual to find bits of pre-WWI wiring still in service here in Vienna!

A lot of suppliers no longer offer economy 7 or night storage. If meter replaced that subscription may go and customer left with a redundant fuse board and heaters not working. Maybe timers in consumer unit on rcbos would be better for heaters or change a few heaters, night storage radiators much more expensive to buy than ordinary radiators.
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 4 года назад
Jane South There are literally dozens, if not hundreds of time of use / economy seven type tariffs available, and I'm not convinced that a meter change would have any impact whatsoever on the customers current deal either. Night storage heaters are a relic from a bygone age I agree, although if they serve an elderly customers needs it's probably more economical to leave them in and just supply them properly and safely- a new future owner will replace them with gas central heating anyway.

What’s the cost for ripping out all the old wiring? Or is that factored into the cost of the new fittings?
@NBundyElectrical

I've seen some instagram stories, thought it that bad till I watched this.... oh god... HOW IS THAT HOUSE NOT BURNED DOWN?! How is possible with all power hungry storage heater heating?! 😱😱😱 Regarding tiled wall in the kitchen, could you be able to feed cable on other side of the wall into socket? Or routed elsewhere out of sight?

We have safe zones where we can run buried cables, professional-electrician.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/021_PE_DEC17-copy.jpg You cant run cables on the back side of the walls unless you can see the accessory from the other side of the wall

@@codenamenel Speaking under correction shouldn't anything outside of zones should be done in metal capping or piping?
@codenamenel
@codenamenel 4 года назад
@@TheHambletonbiker metal capping isn't the required thickness for mechanical protection from penetration. You could potentially use metal conduit as long as it was properly installed, but thats a much bigger ball ache than removing a few tiles etc
