This was so helpful and very affirming. No photographer should ever be charging less than $300 for a session.

@@jazzie9647 that’s okay. We all start somewhere, but now that we have the info, we can charge what we are worth with confidence 😃

This is great! I've just started out, and to build a portfolio I'm charging $175 for a 45 min session. But plan to go above 400 when I have the portfolio

Super helpful video! Thank you so much for this Rebecca 🙌 As a business owner it is often so hard to figure out what you should be charging. I love that you included taxes because that can often be heart attack inducing! Planning for it makes it much less stressful.

What a great informative video you have taken the time to share with us !! I literally just realized how much l have been undercharging and it can get overwhelming and exhausting. But now knowing this information l definitely have to make the move to raising my prices. How would you suggest adding in-studio shoots or on-location shoots where l will bring equipment? Or would you suggest the cost be for the client to decide if they will book a space on their own?

So helpful! Just curious! Is this for all inclusive pricing like the shoot and photos? I've been thinking of changing a price just for taking photos then adding on for edited photos?
@RebeccaRiceEducation

Wow, this was extremely helpful. Love your new tool! Question - does your level of skill play any part in this? You mentioned editing would typically double the time of your session. For me, it’s not. It’s taking A LOT of time. More than I’d like. So how does this affect how much I should be charging? Also, I’ve heard when you raise your prices, it’s always best to do it gradually. What if I plug in my numbers and in order to make what “I’m worth,” I would have to increase my price significantly. What do you suggest?
@RebeccaRiceEducation
@RebeccaRiceEducation 2 года назад
Great questions, Ling! If it’s taking you more time to edit, then you should be compensated for that time. That means you’ll likely need to raise your prices. If you find that you’re undercharging, it’s typically best to raise your prices in one big go. The new year would be a great time to do it! You could send a courtesy email to past clients letting them know your pricing structure will be changing in the new year, or just let it happen without announcing it. You’ll likely lose some past clients, but you’ll gain new ones who will happily pay your prices!

Just curious how you got the number for the taxes before knowing how much you made for the month.
@keepinupwithkairos6101
@keepinupwithkairos6101 7 месяцев назад
l just did the math and how l got 660 was multiplying $275 which is what we're being paid (multiplied by the number of sessions for the sake of Rebecca's example [8]; that total equals $2,200 then when you calculate 30% of $2,200 you get $660. Hope this is accurate and it helps!

What if you don't want to do your own editing, do you have any suggestions on outsourcing editing?
@RebeccaRiceEducation
@RebeccaRiceEducation 2 года назад
Yes! Editing is one of the first things I suggest photographers outsource. There are bigger companies like Photographer’s Edit you could use that are a little cheaper, or go for a private editor for a more customized experience. Kami Austin is a great private editor who is taking on new clients currently!

Hey Rebecca, I’m going over this video but plugging in my own numbers. I am uncertain how you got the $660 from taxes. Can you explain how you came up with that dollar amount?
@RebeccaRiceEducation
@RebeccaRiceEducation 2 года назад
$660 was based on a $275 session price with 8 sessions per month. It’s meant to be a placeholder estimate. You’ll need to adjust that number as needed for whatever your price is going to be.

Okay... so if I'm trying to figure out what my prices will be how can I figure out my taxes from the "price" that doesn't exist yet?
@alyssaroloff5372
@alyssaroloff5372 Год назад
@@debbie.painter23 I have the same question. The taxes part is confusing me, as I don't know yet what to calculate or charge. In this example the equation came out to charging no less than $390, but the $660 # for taxes would be based off a $275 session. My brain hurts lol!
