I had a problem with fitting the filter on my faucet so I called customer service at Berkey and they said to soak the filters in water for half an hour or so and it worked. I made sure to buy my Berkey from the Berkey company directly.
PRIMING ISSUE RESOLVED. although no one responded to my question, for anyone else out there who can't get the filter flush to the underpart of their faucet- NO WORRIES. After holding my filters for 5 minutes under cold water as close to the faucet spout as possible, my arms were tired, I had a constant drizzle of water that somehow escaped and came down the side of filter, and only had a tiny amount of air bubbles collect on the outside of the filter. I was completely bummed and irritated. So I took a huge stock pot, filled it with cold water, doused the filters with cold water and ran some slowly on the top into the hole (like in her video), and then placed them slanted upward in the stock pot with the hole part facing upward. As I did they slanted in the pot, upright, completely submerged in water, air bubbles started to come out the top. I left them in for 30 mins. Then I placed them in my brand new Berkley and after putting it together and adding water in the top, the water ripped through those filters, and my Royal Berkley filled up just fine. I checked after only 13 minutes and the water was five inches from the bottom. WOW, SUPER FAST FILTERING OF WATER. So you can do as the lady above suggest, for five minutes per filter, or you can just soak them (after washing the outside/ lightly scrubbing) and you will be just fine!!
I’ll try what you’re suggesting. I’ve been trying to prime these filters for like a half hour. It’s very tiring! There’s got to be a better way. Maybe my filters need to be returned.
The brand new filter at the beginning needs no scrubbing, just priming. At the end she says when the filter dries out (over time through use or if you stop using your Berkey while you’re out of town) you will need to scrub and then re-prime.
you should of mentioned the scrubbing first then priming at the start of the video!! step 1: scrub it step 2: get nude rubber and place on Black Berkey Element step 3: let a slime amount of water into it step 4: wait till you see water bubbles, wait till it reaches all the way to the top of the Black Berkey Element (should take about 5-6 mins ) step 5: place back into Berkey
I just bought this same filter replacement and tried to follow the directions I didn’t prime with the water long enough because I taste the mineral salts still. Thanks for this video!
is it possible to achieve air release by soaking the filter in a large stainless steel stock pot? My sink has a Moen faucet spout and the underside does not have a flush faucet aerator where the water comes out. So pushing this filter top up to it doesn't allow for flush mount or complete water entrance to the filter. instead it seeps out diverted holes in the underside of my faucet mouth and then the water rushes down like a waterfall down the side of the filter. Frustrating to say the least. If there is any way other than on the video, please do tell. Otherwise, what? I need to buy a new faucet?? Please reply with suggestions to any whom might know. Tx
you mentioned at the end of the video to scrub. DO you mean to scrub your filter? your hand? it might sound like a silly question but just want to be clear of the process. thank again for the video!! very helpful!!
You mention when going away to let them air dry on a plate, I saw another video that recommended putting them in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator when gone for a week, which do you think is better?
I am unable to prime at kitchen sink (there is only a handle sprayer, that I can pull out of a holder (restaurant style). My bathroom sinks, the faucets are like a waterfall. How do I prime my filters??? I just got my Berkey, and want to use it. Can I soak the filters, submerged in water to prime? HELP!
So why do you have to wash your hands so thoroughly if it’s a filter that filters out bacteria etc. also I just found out that they are not properly certified which makes me nervous I’ve been using mine for a year and now I am wondering if I should go somewhere else with this.
Thought about buying it, but I now see this thing is a pain to maintain. Keep it wet, replenish water everyday, prime; then, when it stops filtering, and I feel it will, something else will come up. Just make it simpler to use.
No, you don't prime it every day with every fill. She is saying to prime when you have maybe gone on vacation and the unit then gets dry or partially dry. You do have to keep it topped up and wet, you were right about that. But hey, what's so bad about that?
misha17422 it is NOT a pain to maintain, she makes it look tedious but once you have initially set up the unit, it’s close to carefree. How’s checking filter ONCE A YEAR sound to you? My Burkey will be delivered today, I’m so over during bottled water. My daughters family has one for about 5 years, once a year maintainence is all they do. They never drink bottled or faucet water.
the tan primer button makes a seal on the faucet so that the stream of water goes through the center into the black filter element. it's like a funnel.
Me neither! I tried and tried... I spoke with a rep who said if I couldn't get them to prime, to just install them as is, make sure they are covered with water in the upper chamber, and filter 3 full tank-fulls before doing the red dye test. Still waiting on it filtering the 1st tank... taking a VERY long time...
@@kathyanderson1173 thanks for posting this. I’m having the same trouble so will try this slow filter approach. I initially tried priming them the way the instructions described, also checked several videos to make sure I was doing it right...and I was zero success Then tried the “stock pot”method described by someone in previous comments, but with no luck. I hope this way works!
@@kristaschroeter337 It did work for me, but took two days to filter through three tank-fulls just to get to the red die test, which worked perfectly. I hope for the best for you!
@@kathyanderson1173 thanks Kathy! It’s good to know it worked ...and now I have a timeline in mind. I filled the upper tank completely last night and now,12 hours later,it’s only filtered about 3/4 of the water. So seems likely it’ll take mine just as long as yours did. Patience is a virtue! Thanks again :)
Lost me in the beginning. Why not leave the wing nut on the threads to support the cork? Also, you seem to be lost in the idea about higher the water pressure/flow needs of this filter priming.
once you have it all set up, the only thing going into the chambers should be water. there's no reason to put fingers or anything other than water into the chamber.
THIS APPEARS TO BE INCORRECT: Berkey's own RU-vid account shows how to prime the black filters in just seconds AND it's also exactly the way it's described in the instructions I just received with my new Berkey filtration system. It takes just seconds, not 5 minutes. This video should be corrected. It's seriously misleading and discouraging.
Wrong. Read the instructions and watch the REAL Berkey priming video and they say leave the washer and nut on, to support the beige washer so you dont need to hold it in your hand LOL. Sigh.
Holding just the beige washer wasn't enough leverage for me, given my faucet angle. I held onto the wide cap at the top with one (clean) hand and onto the beige washer with my other (also clean!) hand.
Matthew 11:28-30 King James Version (KJV) 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
@@liddlebirdie In the video I watched she didn't touch the filter, except the top of it to prime. I thought the idea was not to touch the filter if possible, as it will affect the carbon? So how can you wash it?
@@Africpoems Here the Berkey representative shows priming the filters, then washing (he didn't use soap; I didn't either - I simply used cool water - although he says lukewarm). After this, he primes the filter again. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AFwUODYLn1E.html The Berkey rep touches the filter all over with his bare hands. I happened to be wearing rubber gloves. Hope this helps.
