"When you don't know how to say no, the body will say it for you"
@yunalee13

This is what happened to me.. Since I was a child I was too much humble and polite, I couldn't say "no", I wanted to see everyone happy and not to offend anyone. Now I have multiple sclerosis . It's been around 15 years. And I can say that only now that I can't move parts of my body, I say " no " . Oh my poor body! I wish I was wiser earlier so that I could protect you! Now I'm 37 years old. I can't work ( I'm/was a school teacher) and I don't even have a boyfriend.. that's the bad side.. But finally I have a stronger personality. I've learned it by the toughest way!

Multiple sclerosis is a tough disease, and I can only imagine the challenges you've experienced over the last 15 years. The effort you put in to protecting your body and creating your aspiring personality is admirable. If you don't have a boyfriend or are unable to work, keep in mind that your worth isn't defined by your relationship status or career. You are a one-of-a-kind and beautiful person with so much to offer, and your journey represents your character and inner strength. Please continue focusing on your own well-being, self-care, and self-love. Your story has touched many people's hearts, and you have definitely inspired others who are suffering similar difficulties. I'm finally realizing that it’s okay to put myself first. Having endured an 11-year toxic marriage, I married my wonderful husband. He was a widower with two young children, who I helped raise. I also cared for my ailing father, and now assisting my elderly mother. I've always been the caregiver. My professional life also mirrored this, often skipping breaks and overworking to do a good job. The resultant chronic stress has now led to physical ailments like alopecia, chest pain, and migraines. While I’m now taking steps to prioritize my health, guilt is still a persistent companion. This video is a timely reminder that caring for myself is not selfish but essential.

It's definitely not selfish! You are your own person, who is there all the way. And your physical body is a beloved partner of yours, the one who never betrays. Of course it's fair to take care of your beloved self. ❤

Thank you for sharing such a personal and touching story with us. Your journey shows your strength and resilience, and it's clear that you've spent the most of your life caring for others. Acknowledging that it's alright to prioritize yourself can be a difficult and changing realization, especially after an 11-year toxic marriage and shouldering the responsibility of raising your husband's children and caring for your elderly parents. Your selflessness and commitment to your family and profession are admirable.It breaks my heart to hear that your continuous stress has taken such an impact on your health, appearing in physical diseases like alopecia, chest pain, and migraines. It's important that you're now putting your health first, and I admire you for doing so. Self-care is an important act of self-love and protection, not selfishness. Guilt may interfere with this journey of self-discovery and self-care, but keep in mind that you deserve every moment of rest and every effort you make to heal. Your loved ones, including your husband, surely want you to be healthy and happy. By showing that self-care is not only acceptable but also necessary, you are setting a wonderful example for everyone around you.Your movie serves as a poignant reminder to all of us that we must nourish ourselves in the same way that we nurture others. Thank you for sharing your story and encouraging others to put their health first. You are not alone on this journey, and your bravery will inspire many others. As you continue on this path of self-discovery and self-care, I wish you a lot of peace, good health, and happiness. 🙏✨💖

This part. I can accept it SO much better imagining it coming from myself, my loving self. It hurts so deeply to imagine that my family and friends couldn't be understanding or empathetic with me. When you finally listen to your instincts and trust yourself, then realize that you endured abuse for almost four decades from your parents....it's just too much to process. I like this version that the roadblocks came from me. And now I can let go of wanting the blocks to move. I need time to be away from all of them and their never-ending requests and manipulation disguised as concern for me. The roadblocks feel a lot safer as I type this, actually 😄 it's like they're my boundaries that I never consciously erected. I am under construction...when I'm done, I will remove the blocks and whomever I select will have access to me again, on my terms, for the length of time and in the areas of my life that I choose. I feel so used and discarded in my relationships. Now I can switch that to: I feel safe. I am protected. FINALLY 👏🏼😅✨ I literally went to a park earlier today for the 1st time (I was anxious and sad), and a section of it was blocked off for construction. I didn't even want to be there, but I stumbled upon it bec I kept driving when the trail I wanted to go to had no parking spots. 😭 And then I found this video several hrs later....Wow.

I realised the folly of gaining acceptance of family, friends, peers by having many endeavors and being busy all the time. When I retired early to have a relaxed stress free lifestyle most of them distanced away from me. They asked is that all i'm doing as if my life was so boring and not worth living. But I eventually adjusted to this rejection and now by being true to myself I've never been happier and healthier.

We know how to say no as toddlers. For many of us, that's beaten out of us to placate parents, teachers, religious figures, and peers. So let's honor the toddlers no. It's a safety mechanism.
@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing this important perspective. You are 100% right - as toddlers, we have a natural instinct to say 'no' in order to protect ourselves. This component of our early growth must be remembered and respected. Embracing and honoring our inner 'no' can help in setting up of healthy boundaries and the protection of our well-being. Your message reminds us of the importance of following our intuition and nourishing our true selves.🙏

This advice is very helpful, except for the bit that amounts to "everything happens for a reason" narrative towards the end. While I agree that how we react to things and perceive situations is our responsibility, the notion that horrible things happen because its orchestrated can be very triggering and hurtful to people trying to heal from unimaginable loss. I say this because my 3 year old niece was killed in a car accident and my brother was handicapped from it but survived. Shortly afterwards I was having a very hard time with grief and reached out for help. The nurse at a psychiatric office abruptly told me "well, you know, everything happens for a reason." And it absolutely screwed up my healing for YEARS. Things happen...horrible things because that's the nature of life. How we react is the only thing within our control. I share all this because I know it's common practice to quiet someone who is sharing a deep hurt with this common quote/sentiment and it's damaging. Trauma needs a place to flow and escape the body.
@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters 11 месяцев назад
I'd want to begin expressing my deepest condolences for the painful loss you and your family have suffered. Losing your 3-year-old niece in a car accident and leaving your brother disabled is a heartbreaking experience that no one should ever have to go through. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts on the "everything happens for a reason". Your comment is really valid, and I appreciate you addressing the potential harm of using such phrases during times of severe loss and trauma. It's important to understand that life may be truly random, and some situations are just painful without any higher purpose or reason. The pain and suffering caused by these traumatic experience are very real, and it is our responsibility as caring people to provide assistance and empathy rather than try to justify such painful loss. I'm so sorry to hear that when you reached out for support, you received a dismissive and hurtful response. Trauma is clearly a complex and deeply personal experience, and everyone deals with it differently. Your insight about trauma needing a space to flow and depart the body is 100% correct, and I hope that after your difficult journey, you've gotten the help and healing you deserve. Your point of view serves as an important reminder to be mindful of the words we choose when we try to comfort someone in pain. Thank you for sharing your story; I hope it helps others appreciate the value of empathy and understanding during times of grief and trauma. Sending you lots of positive thoughts and virtual hugs,💖🌻💕🤗

The fact is not knowing when to stop; not knowing your limits. I guess it happens more to extroverted people who have a lot of energy so they can actually pull off load for two families. My dad was an introvert and he carried on his shoulders at least 6 people. I realize it now. My lesson is learn to ask people for help. It’s also about learning to say no to people and telling them you have your limitations. Even then you might have a sense of guilt. So prioritizing yourself is a risky thing too. Everything in moderation. Good luck

I was diagnosed with a tumor on my right kidney and it was an eye opener and for the first time in my life I prioritized myself and I am daily making decisions for better health all around. I don't take anymore than I can handle and I take time to relax and enjoy my life.

I honestly believe this is what is currently happening to me. I've ask countless doctors to allow me to take time off work for stress but they always tell that I won't get approved. Even though my blood work shows inflammation. They tell I'm to young, or its just in your head you will grt over it. "Here's a pill". I've tried prioritize myself but it is difficult when you have responsibilities such as kids, debt, bills.

Please do what you can to lower your inflammation. Listen to your body, I wish I had. I started getting sick at 18- I am 35 and my body is falling apart. It happened slowly at first and in the last 2 months I went from already struggling to pain in every bone in my body. I am having new very scary symptoms in my body. This is not to be alarmist, inflammation being found is a very real warning sign. I might have rheumatoid arthritis or cancer.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer, thanks to the team of amazing doctors and my mindset I’m cancer free. I cannot go back to work yet, as a matter of fact, the psychologist doesn’t allow me to go back to the company I worked for. We’re two years further and it is only now that I have moments that I’m not thinking about going back (which is impossible, I have a severe burn out on top of). I’m grateful for what happened. I finally allowed myself to rest. And take myself first.

100% makes sense, for a good part of my more recent life and some of my youth, I have been told I am selfish by some people...I guess being born with a disability forced me into survival mode from a very early age. I have self taught myself to prioritize my "needs". I am only doing what my reality is by looking out for my best interest. I have had very minimal "other" health issues for most people my age. I have discovered that taking time out for one's selfcare is negotiable, start today if you are not currently doing this.

Check out disorganized attachment style, this is where the child in the first few years of life is scared of their primary caregiver. They found most babies in the clinical trial who had this attachment style had become caretakers of their parent by the age of six, it was their way of trying to take control and make things safe with their parent. So caregiving often has fear and trauma underlying it, so as well as ignoring ones own boundaries and limitations, there is also huge stress on the nervous system from the early years of life.

The 1st decade of programming by our parents/elders have alot to do with how we are shaped as adults. So, if I'm a people pleasers it's because I was taught to obey the masters, serve their purpose and theirs & put myself at the very last because thats what good daughters, sisters and aunts do. All of us could stop this unconscious self sabotage if only we could realize & address intergenerational negative habits & ongoing passed down trauma. I have RA & I'm constantly told by people whom I've loved dearly & supported immensely lifelong who deliberately hijacked my life from day, all what ive been through has nothing to do with my condition rather God is punishing me for my sins or testing my faith in Him. I'm so glad this angel is giving people educated insight into what's happening to them & opening eyes to the toxicity they are surrounded by.

When i was doing chemo, a male nurse would tell me I should go to the office instead of working from home. I don't know why he thinks he knows better than a person actually going through this ordeal. After the first time, he said that, for subsequent chemos, I made sure to cut off the conversation after the med questions before he gets to that "advice" by popping on my noise cancelling headphones.
@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing your personal story during such a difficult time. I'm sorry to hear you had to go through chemotherapy while dealing with inappropriate advise from a male nurse. Your frustration and confusion are completely normal. When someone gives unsolicited advise without completely understanding what you're going through, it may be very disappointing. Nobody knows your unique situation better than you, and you are the expert on your own journey. It's admirable that you used noise-cancelling headphones to protect your emotional well-being during those times. Taking control of our environment and focusing on self-care can sometimes be the greatest way to deal with such situations. Your story is an excellent reminder of the value of empathy and sensitivity in healthcare. Everyone's journey is different and healthcare providers should always strive to listen, understand, and support their patients without making judgment. I hope that sharing your story here raises awareness about the importance of compassion and empathy in healthcare settings. You are not alone in dealing with these difficulties, and your bravery in sharing your story can make a difference in the lives of others who may be in similar situations. My best wishes for continuing strength and resilience on your journey. Thank you for sharing again, and keep in mind that your voice matters🌻💕🤗💟

This is the body trying to tell her to protect herself, cos the body isn’t designed to protect others except your kids, so when you put someone before yourself your body will keep on telling you to put yourself first (by getting anxiety your body talks to you) then your body goes into survival cos you’re putting someone before yourself. Because you by default put people before yourself your body will stay in survival mode producing stress hormones, until it develops cancer or other issues. This is your body talking to you. Telling you to stop putting someone before yourself by feeling anxiety. It’s telling you stop harming yourself. Then you must learn to regulate your nervous system with breathing and exercise etc. And also learn to listen to your body. To cease a behaviour when you get anxiety and do some thing that is pleasing to you. Your body will also protect yourself against you saying someone that doesn’t serve you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this important subject. You've clearly put a lot of thought into understanding the messages our bodies tell us when we prioritize others before ourselves. Taking care of our health is important, and it is important to listen to our bodies when they communicate with us through anxiety or other signs. Learning to balance care for ourselves and others is a process, and your insights into regulating the nervous system through practices like breathing and exercise are priceless. Furthermore, self-care and self-preservation are important parts of a healthy lifestyle. Thank you for bringing light on this part of our well-being, and I appreciate your message's emphasis on self-awareness and self-care. 🙏💕

We have to allow ourselves to just not want to, sometimes just because we don't want to. And sometimes it's ok to do it anyway but at least honour the feeling and let it move through us. Danger comes if we repeatedly do stuff for others when deep down we don't want to. Or we suppress that feeling of resentment. On the opposite side, if we want to, these acts of service or whatever become a joy and a healing energy.
