This is without a doubt the most well-executed walkthrough of a production I have ever seen (and I watch a lot of them...) Big fan of your videos anyway, but this was super impressive and enjoyable to watch. Really great job Forest!
Sorry to all the other RU-vid recording/mixing/mastering/production artists out there, but this is what you need to aspire to. This is, without a doubt, the most helpful and well-explained channel on the subject there is. Forest, you da man brother. I always leave with something worthwhile stuck in my head. Props!!!
@@forestwhitehead My biggest takeaway.? Hmmm? Well it's not just one thing but more your style, genre, and accolades. I mean you're working in Nashville for crying out loud, with big names that I'm familiar with. That's for starters. As for this video, i like how you set things up for a bpm after the fact. You're not restrained to the bpm initially but figure it out after the rough draft is partially recorded. I like how you quantitize lightly to preserve humanism, record the foundational pad sound for the initial re-record, how you double tracks to broaden the sound, and add distortion to drums of all things. Honestly a lot of this stuff has probably been discussed in other channels' videos but with you I don't go into a trance and lose interest. I've been watching ever since you and another youtuber both produced a version of the same tune and yours really sounded like what i had been trying to accomplish. Overall, I think it's your way of not overexplaining everything. You're walking us through the steps but geared more towards a general overview. AND you're a multi instrumentalist. Ugh, I feel like I'm blabbering. I'll try to gather my thoughts a little better and get back, but for now, I sure hope you keep at it. You're really helping me out. Many thanks 🙏
Man - your video production quality has gone up SO MUCH since we started talking. So happy for ya man - sick, and I love how you broke this down. Keeping it interesting without skipping a ton of stuff.
@@forestwhitehead @NathanJamesLarsen both of your channels are incredible for me. I learn a lot from them. Thanks guys. I wish I can some day do challange songs as you did. Greatings from Poland.
Man, I've watched a LOT of production and arrangement videos trying to nail down this style, and this is probably the most concise and easy-to-follow tutorial I've seen. Thanks for this, excited to try this method on demos that have been stuck gathering dust in my "to finish" folder.
i made an amazing instrumental using this tutorial though i don't sing it doesn't have vocals but its good thanks to this video , thak you mr whitehead for the content
Not only is this video amazing because of the way you show how you produce a new country pop tune from start to finish, but it is also the ONLY video I have found that shows how someone could use Kontakt and Native Instuments plug ins in a country production. Good stuff. Thank you!
This is the one video I watch over and over ,best one out there you lay it all out there thank you Forest whitehead I think I watch all your videos were can I get more and thank again
Its been an age since I watched this. Great to watch it again. Still cant afford a resonator though. Maybe next year. You're a bottomless well of talent Forest. Great job my brother. Xave
You seem so relaxed working in studio One and that is the same vibe I get when working in it. It just feels comfortable and enjoyable to mix lay down a track, backing vocals. It just feels right.
Can't emphasize enough how thankful I am to have found your channel a few months ago. I've been looking for something like this channel for a LONG time. Just an excellent job! I'll probably watch this one several times, just like most of your other videos. Thank you for creating these videos for us!
I’m grateful to have loyal subscribers. Thanks for your comment!

If you ask me, this channel is one of the best music and education channels on youtube. I just discovered it. Please continue with your content. This channel will have Million subscribers. thank you.
I have been watching these for over 10 years and this is one of the best I have seen so far. If you could do a Josh Kiser - Big on the Little Things style song/mix/master man that would be just incredible!! Thank you so much. Subbed.
Definitely a great way to RU-vid mate!... Put links in the description to retailers that'll give you a cut on the tools you're using as an affiliate. Make some extra bugs on your knowledge. (Easy 1st choice is amazon affiliate program).
Is it possible for you to produce my song? I live all the way in Nigeria. I have a basic home studio, so I can record my vocals and guitar. I'd like to know if you take up such projects. Thanks
Great video. Thanks for sharing your tips and strategies. I'm a country singer and most recently a fairly new music producer. The last 8 months I have been producing lofi "beats"and atmospheric tunes to get my feet wet with how the whole process of creating, mixing, mastering and distributing to streaming platforms works (I use Ableton Live 12 and Distrokid). I've created my own record label. I have my own recording studio in my home. I've recorded/ released several cover songs but had to take them down. I didn't know about "sampling" so I've started re-recording the covers with my own instrumentation. I have 2 songs released with vocals now with my own instrumentation. I'm planning on purchasing your Melodic Acoustic Bundle (I've watched that video as well) to create new/ original country music as well as aid in my cover songs. Q. Is there a niche for original country music without vocals or should any new/ original music include vocals? If your answer is the latter I will need to start working on songwriting. I've been looking to collaborate with songwriters in the DFW area, haven't been able to find any thus far. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Talk Soon.✌❤
Great video. It's 2024 now. I use Izotope plugins/ suite for mixing and mastering. I loved how you added multiple keys, percussion and drum instruments to the song. I will go back to my songs and see what happens if I add layers like that. Right now I'm getting started and I'm doing cover songs. I get the stems, change to midi tracks and then use my own instruments/ sounds. I record my own vocals. I would like to know what if any presets/ plugins you use on your vocal tracks. I'm currently using Nectar 4.Thanks. Talk Soon. 💜
Wow. This was such an amazing production walk through! You REALLY showed the before and after; from bare bones to top end radio song. Amazing. You make it look do easy, man! Obviously that comes from years of going through the process. Thanks so much for putting this out! It also opened my eyes to what can be used for drums. Maybe that could be something I can invest in when I get hired for drums moving forward, if I am offering my services from home. I think there are a lot of questions I'd want to ask you when it comes to that.
Great production man! Enjoyed the way you put this together with an educational purpose. I'll definitely take care of the transitions in the very first part of the process now. Thank you!
Man you inspired me so much... I love your videos, im a musician and I can't afford going to the studio for a record so I invested the last 5 years in equipment and im trying to learn how to record myself for at least a good demos... I bet you're such a humble and nice guy to hang around with. Keep it up bud, I love your videos.
Where can one see the Grooves inside the Library? Or do you have to just drag and drop midi files into project? Just miss it like in the SDD5 where it is MIDI GROOVE inside the Library itself...
Now THAT was what I needed to see and hear Forest! Now I've just got to work out if I have enough gear to do it! I've got the latest Logic Pro, Reason etc and a huge back catalogue to get started on... BUT you have definitely pulled some cobwebs back here to reveal how knowing what you are doing on the technical side is a huge percentage of headache removal! Respect! Jules
The sound of the Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin are great. From the video, it seems the mic is pointed to body/neck joint, but you are not getting any booming low end. Is this the WA-8000? I would love to know if you are using some EQ to roll off the low end on it. Thanks for the content! You videos are super informative!
You are such a nice and talented guy, sharing all your craftsmanship for free. The sound you produce is so satisfying, polished, rich and clean. Thank you!
So this mix n master is master is perfect, other than how I personally feel as though the bass guitar could be turned down ever so slightly like maybe 1db, then walla! Forest is an awesome producer and engineer!
This is great🤠🤟but I do have a question. Do you have a video specific to a vocal chain you use that we could use in our home studio to achieve a radio ready vocal sound. If not could you make a video? All your videos are very good and teach great techniques.🤠🤟
@@forestwhitehead Really looking forward to it! I usually feel overwhelmed and lost when it comes to the digital production part of music but after this watch I feel somehow motivated and inspired to just start and enjoy the process. Cheers!
I Love your teaching but I cannot record electric guitars without an amp brother , it only takes a few minutes to mic an amp and get the sounds you need nothing beats a real amp sound. Les
I just finished this course and its awesome! If you are looking on how the pro's produce a hit, how to increase your work flow and be more productive in the studio its well worth the investment! Another great one Forest!
Thanks so much for this, Forest. Your production videos are the best. Chockfull of content and to the point. I also love that you're using Studio One, my DAW of choice too. It's great to see your workflow as I tend to use something similar but have picked up so many tips and tricks from yours that helps to refine my own. As primarily a songwriter, my interest in music production was to produce the best sounding demos I could and when I get good enough, to produce and relase some of my own music. My favourite part of this video is that you've clearly laid it out in STEPS (and labelled it as such), so I'm able to create my own checklist from it. BTW I've been in some of your very, very early online workshops. Thank you so much for creating and sharing all your learning content online (and all your emails too). Hopefully the next time I'm in Nashville I can take you out for lunch or dinner. Wishing you much success in everything you do! 🙏
absolutely LOVE your videos and have just bought your track in a day bundle. thank you for sharing your skills and passion for music - I really appreciate you.
Dude, thank you so much. This is the video I've been looking for, for the last few years. I would highly recommend this video to anyone who is recording their own music at home! Thanks again man!
