Excellent, reminds me of the days of drumming workshops with babatuna Olatunji at esalen institute back in the mid 80’s early 90’s so much fun I did the week long Frum and dance
I was so thrilled to have Baba as one of my many teachers. He was a man of depth- rhythm touched him deeply and it was evident that he lived his goal of empowering others with the drum, the voice and rhythm in general. RIP, my friend! THANK YOU!
This lesson is reminiscent of the one's that presenter Dr Michael Babatunde Olatunji gave to us fortunate ones at the now defunct Elma Lewis School of Performing Arts in Roxbury,MA. Mr. Olatunji introduced West African drum music to the USA in 1959 via his Drums of Passion album. I am glad that he made this video. But I still have my notes and memories of my awakening to roots music that was sparsely documented or performed in this country at that time . My notes were dated 1973. Tunji was based in NYC. He was a pioneer. Unfortunately, he left this life too early about 17 years ago.
Terence Gibson The first thing he says is to relax and prepare yourself spiritually. If you can't follow the first instruction, then you are not qualified to learn anything more.
