Today, we will learn about one of the most useful questions that you can possibly learn.
Could you repeat that, please?
I'd like to pay careful attention to two words: repeat and please.
These are two words that you want to pronounce very clearly. Why?
You want to make clear to the listener that you are asking them to take an action. In this case, the action you are asking for is the other person to repeat what they said.
You also want the listener to know that you are being polite. This is why we use the word please.
We should learn where to place primary stress in the words "repeat" and "please." We can practice this by clapping on the syllable that has primary stress.
Listen and repeat after me:
Note that in the word "repeat," the primary stress comes in the middle of the word.
But in the word "please," the primary stress is at the very beginning.
We can also analyze the vowel sounds in the words
Note that "repeat" has two vowel sounds, like this:
And "please" has one vowel sound:
