Yuan Bao (Chinese 圆宝Yuán Bǎo “Yuan Yuan’s baby”) was born on 28 June to Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, who were gifted by China in 2008. Yuan Bao now weighs over 13kg, up from 186 grams at birth.
The name "Yuan Bao" beat the other five options by obtaining 8,712 votes in an online poll that saw the participation of about 26,000 people from Aug 17 to 26. While Yuan Bao means "the baby of Yuan Yuan" in Chinese, the character "bao" bears an auspicious indication in Chinese.
