It’s been 3rd year I am trying to propagate Hydrangeas cuttings in the water and after 3 to 4 weeks stems get rot and I plant them in the ground, nice to see the cutting with beautiful roots, I do not know what I am doing wrong! Or may be I don’t have luck with water propagation.

Sure wish I could get one from my late gramma’s home. Around the year 1987, gramma was alone on a ladder painting her home by herself. She had a two story house, if you do not consider the sunken lower story. Gramma had Paget’s disease, so her legs were bowed and brittle…keep this in mind. The soft soil must have moved the ladder and it fell, and she fell the two stories below. She should have shattered, and there were no cell phones and no way someone with broken hips and legs in a rural area could crawl inside to the phone easily…but she just had soreness and bruising no broken bones at all! See she had this big blue hydrangea bush by the side of the house, and she landed on it. It took the brunt of the fall, splitting down the center, so somehow she didn’t die alone and scared in pain because of that bush. She loved it so much after this! She watered it and hoped it wouldn’t die. Well, even though the main stem cracked to the ground, it did not die. It continued to grow back healthy. We consider this a Savior Plant.

@@kellynauhormez4607 I don’t know. I’ve only ever overwintered in my porch. It has walls, but no heat. So it’s kind of like a garage. Try it! I think if they are kept in a heated space, they would need extra light from grow lights or something and I’m not sure how they do without chill hours/a dormancy period, but you don’t have much to lose.

Great video. No annoying product flogging and straight away a good explanation. Last year I did something similar but took the cut part and dipped it rooting powder before putting it in water. Does rooting powder help or is it not necessary at all ?? Here in Canada it is the start of June with no chance of frost. Is it OK to leave the cuttings outside in the bottle in full sunshine ?

I took 4 clippings June 13th 2024 and put them in water the same exact way as this video. Now august 31st 2024 nothing has grown at all. The leaves have mostly burnt off from the sun and mosquitoes keep trying to lay their eggs in the water. I keep emptying it out and refreshing it and no luck. Might bring them in overwinter in the house and see if that helps. Pretty disappointed about it because the lady in this video seems like she knows what she's talking about and I've tried this a few times before this from other people with no luck. Hi Danielle! I’m trying to prop some hydrangeas this year and I’m a bit late to the game. It’s early August and I’m going to water prop. I will probably be putting these into soil cells in mid September. We won’t hit our first frost until late October, so I’m wondering if I should leave the babies in their small pots and perhaps move them to the garage over winter so they don’t experience any hard freezes?

I loooove water propagation, that is by far my most preferred propagation method for indoor plants, and this summer I started to take hydrangea cuttings for the very first time after seeing your video. I was a bit late to the party (so to speak) but I've just started seeing roots so maybe I'll make it in time before the frost. I have a question though- when the plant has been potted up (or when it is planted in the ground)- do you need to do anything to make it branch out, like cut it just over a pair of leaves? I mean, I don't want a leggy hydrangea with just one branch. Do the plant sort that out by itself or is it like many other plants that you need to cut the stem? Thanks for great content! I've seen a lot of your videos by now ❤️🌿🌸

Any tips for weigela propagation? I tried this method with them and nothing happening after 2 months. Still alive and looking fine, but no roots. I finally just planted them in the ground and said "good luck!", have had about 10% success rate just sticking cuttings straight into soil, hoped water propagation would be more successful but so far not really.

I would try softwood cuttings, dipped in rooting hormone, into moist potting soil in early summer.

I wish I knew this before! My MIL had the most amazing coloured dark blue hydrangeas and I always wanted to propagate them but the house got sold before I got the chance…. Still regretting this.

Maybe you could go to the current owners and kindly explain this to them and maybe they would let you take some cuttings. Good Luck 💖
