This was just a beautiful video. I love the close up details of the stems and watching how you cut them. Very detailed and clear. I rarely comment on videos, but I had to on this one. Thank you!

Ah yes, well, seed will have diverse results like that but how wonderful your seedling was pretty enough to name after your wife. Hope it goes on to grace your garden for decades to come. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

Thank you. I was thinking of making an air layering video for camellias or rhododendrons but later on. Before that you can expect several other propagation videos from me. Best of luck with your roses!

Video molto istruttivo Rachel👏👏👏.

Yippee!! I'm trying it, love the video~ Have you tried #16 rooting hormone, as opposed to the regular cheap kind? Its summer in Florida, USA, can I cut the long, leggy rose bushes I have for this? Hardly any leaves, just long canes, ugrrr.. THANK YOU!

Does the cutting have to be from this year's growth, will the growth from the previous year also work?
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 3 года назад
You're looking for pencil thickness. That will tend to be this year's growth but not necessarily. Good luck.

Does this propagation technique work with climbing roses too? Got some climbers coming next June, so we might have to give them some time to get established but would like to try it.

@@GardeningatDouentza I am wondering what I should do with my rose cuttings(hardwood) I will have them tomorrow. will they be ok in the garage with a long horizontal window? Without direct sun. I live in zone 8a I believe- area near Raleigh NC. I think it’s too cold outside still. I worry they will die? If I do place them in the garage how often do I have to water them? Once a week? Every 2,3 days, every 2 weeks? I do not have a greenhouse unfortunately and I worry inside the house will be too hot for them
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza Год назад
@@Kamila_q Yes, inside the house will be too warm for them so you should try the garage. The window should give adequate light. In very cold snaps you might try covering them with fleece or something but do remove it afterwards as the cuttings need light. Make sure not to jiggle the cuttings in their pot when covering as this may break establishing roots. I can't give you a rule for watering except to say that you need to water whenever your soil dries out. This may be quite infrequently. It will be difficult to tell when your soil has dried out though at cold temperatures as we generally recognise wetness through temperature. If in doubt, best not water. I hope your cuttings will do well for you. Best of luck.

@@GardeningatDouentza just seeing this! Thank you so much! That answers all my questions! I don’t know if it matters I just checked the humidity in the garage and it’s 33% I think that should be good. Thank you so so much for taking the time to respond!! If you have Amazon links in the description I will be using them next time ❤️thank you

@michaelmccarthy4077

And here I thought you didn't like the roses because of the maintenance and feeding needs. In all the years I've been gardening, I've never gotten a rose cutting to root. I've tried every which way: rooting hormone powder, hormone gel, no rooting hormone, covered with a jar, not covered, nicking the stem, not nicking the stem. They always rot.
@GardeningatDouentza
@GardeningatDouentza 3 года назад
That's weird, Michael. I've done them a couple of times in pots like this and always had success, not with all of them mind. I always found the danger point was later when I'd forget to water the young plants 😂 Do you reckon climate might be an issue?
@michaelmccarthy4077
@michaelmccarthy4077 3 года назад
@@GardeningatDouentza I don't think it is climate, I think it's me. I've tried them in Ohio, Denver and Florida, they've never taken. I've grafted successfully, never rooted a cutting (grafting was a lot easier!). My dad's mom had like 50 roses she had grown from cuttings taken from roses in different cemeteries in Buffalo. She showed me how she did it, her method didn't work for me either. 🤷
