Actually, your Katana is easier to draw if pointed to the left if you are right-handed, most people are right-handed, however left-handed people would reverse this; this is because you can draw the weapon and making one singular attack in the same motion, letting you get a surprise kill when threatened in your residence.

to be very correct: very old katanas are shown placed with the blade side down. this comes from how they were worn in "the older days", since there was a time where they were worn blade down and therefore are able to be displayed blade down. newer katanas are placed blade up as shown on the video and they were also worn blade up. if u ever find yourself in a museum with katanas faced down its not a mistake, they are just very old katanas

katana are displayed the same manner in which they are worn. Because the katana is worn with the cutting edge facing up, it should also be displayed with the cutting edge facing up. When Japanese etiquette says that katanas displayed with the tsuka on the left signals peace, whereas displaying the katana with the tsuka on the right signals combat readiness and ability to fight. Assuming you display your katana in your home, either way is perfectly acceptable. However, if you're displaying it in a dojo you should ask your sensei for a recommendation as to his preference. Some DoJos prefer tsuka left to signal this peace but others may prefer the tsuka to the right to show readiness. That’s a decision your sensei will get to determine where as in your home you can make the determination but it doesn’t matter which way in your own home. It is not seen as threatening to be on the right. It is a manner to show readiness and any guests understand this and will only be seen as a threat if someone is meant to take it that way.
