@@SA-ne1re Yeah, I will do a specific video on it. I did this recording very raw without a script and forgot to circle back. I got super focused on the grips. Good call though
I think what the palm does in each of these grips as well as how much it touches the mousepad (friction etc...) might need to be explained in a video to properly gauge these grips and what they do for you!! Otherwise i loved the vid! Ty
You should make a video about how you have your arm, shoulder and back when gaming. Would help people with bad posture or back issues. Would also be great to see if it's best to rest your arm on the desk or raise it when gaming.
@@aspct. what is your reason to getting carpal tunnel when you put your arm on the desk? I feel like it gives your arm more stability when your arm is in the desk
@@tonyyu2004 because carpal tunnel is doing the same movement over and over then gaining it overtime. When you lay your arm on a hard surface it rests less and increases chances of carpal tunnel.
I always thought that claw grip was wack and weird.... Until I was playing some FPS games and i realized my hand just molded into claw grip eventually over time.
@@ramikadassanayake4181 If you feel like you're undershooting try increasing your sensitivity, if it's uncomfortable you could try claw but keep in mind if you're doing claw it's going to glide a lot faster than if you use palm grip so keep this in mind.
Huge difference between having a table thats 27 inches high compared to a 30 inch table! Everyone needs to know because it helped me so much switching to a lower table with my secret labs chair. As you said if you aren't comfortable you will not aim properly! Great vid
Adjustable monitor arm too. If you set yourself up to sit at the right he right the monitor center can just go to meet you at your eye level for gaming or just below for productivity.
I naturally fingertip grip my mouse, always have and I've tried different grips but I always go back to what's most comfortable, and it really does make a difference to use something you're familiar with. What I've heard a lot, is whatever position your hand goes to when you grip a mouse normally, without thinking about it, is the grip you should be using.
I've seen Pros in all different games talk about this all with conflicting theorys. The general idea is experimentation is good however changeing grips wont be a direct imprivment however can b a indirect one
@@reaperofinsanity3370 Yeah for sure! It's not something that would necessarily make you a god if you don't have the mouse control or the gamesense to win fights, however experimentation (hard/soft mousepads, light/heavy mice, grips, and whatnot) should be encouraged as learning what's comfortable is super important in building confidence. Plus once you get to a certain point in your skill level, I'd argue that the skill is transferrable across those factors and then it would just come down to what you prefer the most imo
nah. I hold my mouse in a way that it angles to the right a bit, so I gotta spend some time in aim trainer so my subconcious mind can get a sense of how i wanna grip it. You can't change a grip because you want to, you gotta just go with the flow, and let your mind make teensy little adjustments over time before you competely transition into a different grip.
I'm very new to kb/m. Only been playing a couple weeks. I've spent a hour a day on aim labs. I'm pretty decent with flicking onto targets, but my tracking is lacking. After watching this, I switched to claw. This is so much more comfortable. I lowered my sensitivity a bit after switching and my tracking went up 6% on the Strafetrack task in aim lab (only 56 percent, but two weeks ago I was at 38 percent). Thanks.
Maybe for very aggressive claw when your fingertips are going basically vertically onto the mouse, but in general it shouldn't matter. So no matter if you have guitar fingernails or just like having them long and fancy, it shouldn't make a difference.
Hand size 19 x 10 cm | long time G303 user| fingertip grip A lot of fingertip players don't use side buttons because when the thumb clicks on the side buttons, it messes up their aim. Now here comes my grip, the knuckle-fingertip grip. I'm able to use side buttons without negatively affecting my aim, while retaining all the flexibility of pure fingertip grip. My grip is basically fingertip but with my knuckles resting toward the back of the mouse for more stability. When I start controlling recoil, I transition into pure fingertip by lifting my knuckles off the mouse a bit. (My palm never touches the mouse.)
for me i use a hybrid grip since i was 7 years and i am now 17. my grip is composition of these 3 grips fingertip for long range ,claw grip for mid and short range ,and palm for tracking. i was so confused what grip i use but when i recorded a video for my hand while was playing for like 3 hours i discovered that.
That is totally fine. palm/claw/fingertip are just general broad categories, but the actual grip is highly dependent on the size and shape of your hand, your mouse, the speed you use. Calling it by one of the big three names can give people a rough idea of what your grip is like, but doesn't perfectly describe what it is.
@@moonmoon2479 try other stuff then. There are so many ways to hold a mouse that if it hurts for you then you are simply doing it wrong. Try experimenting. There's always something. Regardless, mouse aiming may not be your thing. But it should never be because of pain
this is interesting! i naturally palm my mouse because of my long nails, so i can’t claw grip. the most comfortable mouse for me is mad catz rat mice bc its really wide, i recently changed to the razer basilisk v2, same kinda shape but less wide so hopefully i can grip my mice better.
for me i always calw gripped and i was happy with my aim until i tried fingertip grp. HOLY SHIT WHEN I TELL YOU MY AIM IMPROVED IN A FKING MINUTE. i reccomend everyone trying every grip but especially people that claw try to fingertip it was a life change for me and my aim is better than ever.
I started palm, like most people but over time I've started to use my fingers a lot more. The only thing I've found incredibly frustrating is I can never find my 'default' position. Sometimes I can't get comfy so I raise my chair and then I feel like my aim is off, sometimes I lower my chair so again my aim is off. I also never really know how much of my arm I should have resting on the desk as it changes, but then I'm very inconsistent. If I have too much of my arm on the desk then I feel like I'm too restricted, then up my sens maybe a little and use my wrist. Sometimes I have none of my arm on the desk and sit a but further away so I have no resistance. In my 2 years on PC, I've never been able to find the 'default' posture/position that feels good for me... Always changing! 😂
It is an always learning experience, do not feel bad. I know that struggle because I have gone through the same process and everything matters. Especially for fingertip grip. Because it impacts your fingers and the angle. Which is probably why people say it is such a difficult form? But I agree. Hang in there and take note of how you are sitting and things you can work on. It will all come together, time, patience, and diligence!
@@Dazs Thanks Dazs. I actually took a bit of a break at some point from fps games because of the frustration but I've been pushing myself to get my muscle memory back and just trying different things so that I can notice the differences and which I prefer. I think I'm making progress and I'm trying to push a slightly higher sens than I would normally use but using my fingers a lot more. I noticed that when I went low sens (like what I used to use, around 1-1.2 @800 dpi on Apex) and my shoulder ached for 2 days so it's fair to say that's not for me. I guess I just pushed through it before 😂 Either way I've never been terrible with my aim, I just know I can do much more
The only reason I started fingertip grip was because I had a really small office mouse and felt it was most comfortable even after switching to a gaming mouse
not going to lie i switched to PC going on 2 months now, def helped out and like a comment i read yea you should do a vid of arm and stuff while gaming. nice vid and thanks
I think you mixed up having large hands and not being able to fingertip grip it. I think with large hands there is no way of palm gripping a small mouse. You just go over it with your fingers. It is much easier to fingertip grip it. Of course, i get, that it might be too tight to fingertip it with large hands, but palming is just as impossible :D.
if you're okay with a bunch of mouse keys the g600 is pretty big I have large hands and can palm it pretty comfortable due to the third button I just use it for a rest super comfy
My natural grip is fingertip due to the fact that i come from a rts background! played sc broodwar, sc2 for 20 years , so i don’t even think about it when i aim , and it feels great!
I use a claw grip and sit side on to my desk with keyboard on my lap monitor on the end of desk and a massive mouse mat bet not many play like that but it serves me well with a very low mouse sensitivity
That's a unique style, I respect that. My lil bro played shooters on a laptop with a plugin keyboard at an angle and his mouse sandwiched in between the keyboard and the laptop. I play with a laptop and a big ass mousepad but idk I haven't played in a week
I have big and wide hands, so palm is basically impossible and the most comfortable grip for me is some sort of fingertip/pinch claw hybrid with fingers in a 1-3-1 config. For palm my fingers would overshoot the mouse by more than a full joint, there is not a single mouse that is allows for comfortable palm For pure fingertip I would have to rotate the mouse at least 30° counterclockwise.
Actually, whenever Im using a mouse, my natural grip is pure fingertip with no contact on any other part of the mouse. Ive been trying to learn claw for months now because of the more stability, but im getting pretty frustrated XD. My arm and wrist do make contact with the mouse pad though. And with fingertip I use more my ring finger and thumb to grab the mouse. My pinky rests behind the ring finger to add stability. Your ring finger is stronger. I feel you should use your ring finger more than your pinky if you use fingertip grip.
Just for anyone who's curious, this is the actual facts about grip styles: Fingertip: *has highest skill cieling* That's actually clearly not fact at all, because if you *could* reach a *higher* skill with it, then pros would be using it all day. You can't. You physically cannot have as much precision with fingertip as someone with a G pro x using palm/palmclaw. Just bungus advice in general. Your hand has tendons from elbow to fingertip, and without any palm contact your hand ends up in weird positions. So it's either you flex your hand to simulate palm contact (and go slower than if you just yeet your mouse accross the pad letting the mouse stop your hand from fully closing) or you use palm grip. It's basically empirically provable based on *the fact that 99% of pros, including all successful ones, use a G Pro X or another claw-palm style mouse* Also, if you manage to use the G Pro X properly, you end up with an effect where your palm pushes the mouse up *the exact same amount* as your fingertips do, when you try to move it. Which means it's basically holding your hand in *perfect* fingertip grip *all the time*
i used to have a palm grip with my hand a little shifted to the right side of the mouse, but now i switched to a 1-3-1 claw grip with my middle finger either just hovering over the mouse wheel or tucked in closer to the dpi switch
Yo bro so I’m ur opinion what’s the best grip that u like for high sens. And do I need to have my elbow on the table while playing. And does my arm have to be straight or can it be curved to the left while playing. Hope u answer all. Love
If you palm a big mouse and play 1 wall 6 targets small, you notice right away that the dexterity is lacking when correcting your aim. Switch to a smaller one and notice right away how much more "freedom" you have
My question is: Index on left button, middle finger on middle button, ring finger on right button. Who uses his mouse like this? What are your thoughts about this?
I do. It´s essential for working with apps like AutoCAD. I tend to put my hand in the "claw" position. After a while, my wrist hurts. So, i'm curious to know how other people grip the mouse when working with drawing apps.
You will get it, fingertip takes the longest to learn, because it requires more precise movements like you said, but you gain so much more flexibility in the long run!
i use 16.34cm per 360 and mostly play games like cs and val and i agree with ur palm assessment of the palm not having enough dexterity, i do something that resembles the "flex palm" that u mentioned where the palm itself isnt touching the mouse but the palm-side of my knuckles make contact and so while i still have finger control (defs necessary on higher sens's) but my fingers rnt tensed until i activate them so i get reasonably stable aim (considering my sens) and can still snap fast and make adjustments if needed. i found the grip from trying claw, hating it, trying fingertip and thinking it was too inconsistent (coz i already struggle with inconsistency) and thenmoving my palm back so it wasnt on the mouse technically. some days i struggle to find the grip but most of the time its when i didnt sleep enough or didnt eat well the day before.
I'm currently at 28.86 cm/360 in most games and pretty comfortable with it. And being comfortable is more important than having the perfectly identical sense that some random pro uses.
Hey bro i just have a question, somedays i have the best grip on my mouse but then some days i just get so confused and feel very uncomfortable which makes my aim overshot or very shakey, any tips for i guess confusion in a way.
I have/had the same problem. Try keeping the temperature the same wherever you play at and I know it sounds weird, but I noticed when it's hot in my room I'm terrible and when it's cold I'm really good. Also it could be an issue of you being tired or too caffeinated cause both cause me to either overshoot or undershoot. Also warm up your hands, arms, and shoulders before you play/practice your aim and always try to keep a level head so you make less errors. I'm sorry if these don't work for you, but it's what I've done to help me stay consistent.
I used to use fingertip for Apex Legends but it got really painful for my pinky finger. I then switched to palm but then started having another issue where my pinky just does not feel comfortable when touching the mouse, so now I literally use a grip where my pinky does not touch my mouse - has a lot of tension but I guess there isn't any pain...
the rule for me is, never move your mouse using your fingers, you will have 5 fingers moving the mouse at once which means 5 more things involved that fuck up your aim. What you wanna do instead is have claw or palm grip for stability, move only 2 things when aiming, your elbow joint and your wrist, when you aim vertically you move your elbow up and down, you also use your elbow to do 180 turns. Your wrist can then aim horizontally (left or right), with this style your aim will be steady and linear because you only have 2 things moving your mouse as opposed to 5 fingers, some super low sens players involve like 90 percent arm and 10 percent wrist, you'd find these players have the most stable smooth aim because only 1 thing most of the time moves their mouse and only doing small adjustments to their wrist but the downside is it is difficult to perform 180s because of the sens and thus mobility is affected. You might want to sacrifice a little bit of that consistency/smoothness for mobility.
Thank you very much. You have been very helpful. My hand is 19cm long and 10cm wide. I have been using the razer deathadder 2013 for years, and now I want to get a better mouse. I like using the palm I suppose. Do you have an idea as to which mouse I can use?
Fingers relaxed with even finger pressure, tight wrist and tight arm is the best way for me. If I don't pre tense my wrist and arm I can't flick for shit
