Where do you place the load when hauling cargo on a trailer? Too much weight behind or in front of the axles can be dangerous to haul. What is the best practice for reducing trailer instability and sway?
The TrailerSmith shows how to properly place and evenly distribute the load of your trailer to ensure safety in hauling.

Alot of great info packed in a 14 min. video. Nicley done. It's scary some of these loads you see going down the road. Thanks, Mark

Great series of videos, really enjoying them. I would love to hear your thorough coverage on "all you ever wanted to know about breakaway brakes." I don't spot that in your current list of videos. I suspect I am like a lot of folks - I connect the safety wire (maybe the right way, maybe not) and just assume it's going to work if I ever need it! I think there's a lot I need to learn.

Thank you for making this video. I am a retired equipment operator and I can't even begin to count how many times I've seen people, without a clue, haul unsafe loads. Measuring the trailer tongue or the pickup to ground is the quickest ballpark way to know for sure weight is added to the tongue. Now, we need to educate people on how to properly secure their loads. Cars and small equipment chained down to a trailer incorrectly happens more often than poor weight distribution.

When I haul 3 sxs on my trailer inline. Not sideways. I load the heavier machine up front then the second heaviest and then the lighter one on the tail end. I'd rather have too much tongue weight versus not enough.

As long as your hitch, trailer neck and ball mount can handle the excessive tongue weight then your fine with that mentality. Too many people buy the Walmart special ball mount that's only rated for 5-700lbs and have at it 🤦

Again, I am going to ask an off subject question: How often should I check the brakes on my bumper tow RV. Currently I am planning to check the brakes annually, know I will have to repack the bearings each time I do this.

Hi! Checking the brakes one time a year during the bearing pack should be sufficient, unless you are towing high mileage. So every 12 months or 12k miles, whichever occurs first. Brake adjustments every 3k miles. Great question!

So this where the DOT rules screw you over. If I want a over built trailer or one with more capacity then I will need or use they want to ticket/fine you for being over the 2601 number! Even if you are not hauling 2601. Now If you are over, you made that decision. I own a f450 to have more truck then I need, safety/security, if I tow a 14000 or 18000 lbs capable trailer I am over the 2601 max with nothing in the trailer! I am not commercial. But would need a CDL.
