Yeah, this was a big help. Rented a jeep for the first time in my life on a business trip and I was messing with the gears put it in four wheel low and had no idea how to get it out. Thank you so much.
Great question. If you are rolling at about 5km hour and transmission in neutral it is quite a bit less of a noise. However you will hear the transfer case being switched. Just try to avoid that grinding. Hope that helps!!
Not sure if I am understanding correctly. If you are in a manual transmission then 4x4H can be pulled into place while driving in gear. If you are meaning 4x4L then the transmission needs to be in neutral. Hope that help!! Happy Jeepin'
Hey Tony, no need to touch the brake pedal when shifting in and out of 4x4. It's completely "on the fly " in which I mean while the vehicle is moving. I always take my foot off the gas pedal when shifting as well.
so from what I gathered in the video and the comment section, it doenst rly matter what you are doing to go into 4 High, the vehicle can be in "Park" or "Neutral" or "Drive" and the vehicle can be completely parked or slowly rolling or driving fast on the highway? but to go into 4 Low the vehicle should be in "Neutral" and rolling forward very slowly? Is the above statement correct? thank you so much for the video
I have a 2018 JK with a manual gearbox (6 speed). When I gointo neutral should I continue tokeep the clutch disengaged until I shift into 4L? Do I even have to shift into neutral or can I have a gear selected but just disengage the clutch? Thank You in advance for your reply. Arthur
Snow was dumped onto the hill where I live, and tried 4L but grinded badly...lol Never practiced.........now it was the day that I should've done / knew better. Is this grinding stressed gear a lot ? Couple times I did until I figured it all out and it was my not so bright mistake.
High is on the fly at 80 kilometers an hour? I've rewound and replayed like 6 times and can't understand wtf you're saying. The music is there for what reason??? 80kph = appx 50mph.. I've never been driving more than probably 10mph (stuck in - or driving up hill in - snow) and had a need to use 4wd.. yikes! If one is already at 50mph, what possible reason would there be to switch to 4wd?
I appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching. My editor thought the music would make the video more enjoyable, but.... that is not the case. 4WD High " on the fly " (while youre driving ) is also used here in Canada when you're out on the highway or back roads and the snow or ice starts getting bad. Then you turn the 4 wheel drive on full time. I do understand where you're coming from that most cases are for mudding but some will need this for our weather that changes its mind every 5 minutes.
@@thedodgefather168 Thanks for your reply! I was searching for simple instructions on using my Jeep's (Liberty) part time 4wd, mainly for my soon-to-be licensed son so he'd know the basic "do's and dont's" when driving my Jeep, and aside from the music playing, your instructions were the most simplistic/direct/concise. We live in New England, so our winters can be brutal and I want my son to feel confident in using 4wd while also careful to understand potential damage he could cause when using it inappropriately/unnecessarily. The added music may make for a great *advertisement* for "Jeep 4x4 off roading"; not so much for "pay close attention on when and how to use it!"
on the older jeeps it says to do exactly that on the visor. also when you leave 4wd its always a good idea to reverse a few feet so if anything is partially engaged it gets kicked out fully
Hey Rogelio, appreciate you giving it a watch ! Are you by chance using 4H or 4 L on dry pavement ? That would be why it has that sticky rubbing feeling. It should only be turned on when in sand, mud or snow.
Thanks for giving it a watch Deadly Baits. As for 4WH you can put it into gear in Park, Neutral or "on the fly " upto 100 kms /hour while in drive. I hope that helps and happy 4 wheeling brother!!
What happens if I shifted into 4L while slowly moving forward in drive? I felt the Jeep jerk but it still went into 4L. Now I’m worried I damaged something.
Hey Richard, I am sure you didn't damage anything if this is a rare time and you weren't going fast. Just make sure it's not a habit. Always be rolling roughly 1 to 2 mph and in neutral to avoid damage to your transfer case or linkage.
@jeanpierre That is the issue buddy. Never ever EVER use 4WD on dry pavement. You will destroy your differential in the axle. Only use the 4WD when you know there is slippery surfaces like snow or mud. Not rain or dry pavement buddy!!
@@thedodgefather168 I actually just figured it out. Turns out, you really have to give it a tug! I was sort of afraid to really grip and it rip it, but I finally did, and it worked well. Thanks for the prompt response!
What if you are stucked??...you can't roll under 5 miles an hour for LOW GEAR...this is the confusion people has...all you explained is out there. Thanks for the video is well explained but accomplished nothing...no offense. Thanks 😊
Thank you for your response Juan. I understand your confusion. People using this 4WD Low would be knowingly using it going through a mud pit before they enter. If you are flying through a trail at 50 km hour then obviously there is no need for this. Being in 4WD Low and stuck in a pit is not going to help. It is the torque you are getting from this. Example would be if you are trying to climb over a log or rocks. Not a mud pit. Again thank you and any input is always appreciated!
@@thedodgefather168 You explained it on a brand new wrangler while being on the road. The whole point is to explain how to get unstuck while you have to shift it while being stuck. Moving the gears in place, making it slide in on an older wrangler when gears have to shift in order not to drop the tranny. That’s explaining it fully. This was really a soccer mom explanation. Sorry no offense but you dont drive off-road with 4wd high already. You dont reach a lug or rock or mud pile and get stuck by being prepared already in the 4wd low. Thats the whole point why people get confused just like the user above said.

Thank you for letting me know. I had numerous people say the same. I will definitely make sure it is at a better level ion the future! Happy new years and enjoy your mudding isilsivaywish!!
Could be a great video. Maybe redo, drop the music, and remember your audience...could be very new people to 4-wheeling...or they wouldn't be searching. This is important info. Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them (show them), tell them what you told them, end the training.
@@thedodgefather168Thank you for taking the feedback so well. I am one of those “new Jeep owners” and am looking for info on how to properly use the 4WD without wrecking the hardware. I, too do videos in the automotive industry. So, I was using what I’ve learned through trial and error to try to make them better each time. Especially in today’s environment, people need good, concise, and accurate info on their vehicles. You can make this and other videos “a thing” that becomes part of you. It becomes part of the digital selling world. That door is wide open. This can help a career in this business.
@@edberkowitz9125 @Ed Berkowitz Absolutely bro! I am here to help and love feedback on how I can help you Mopar lovers out! much love buddy! I'll definitely do a series for new Jeep owners. Great idea!!
Johnny boy the fact you found my video out of billions out here and decided to troll me is flattering. I think we need to talk to your mom about getting you off the RU-vid and out of her basement ;) brother
