RevMatch, thanks for taking the time to make an easy to understand animation. I am a high school automotive teacher. Covid-19 has forced a lot of the education to be moved online. I am attaching a link in my assignments to your video so my students can come over and follow your channel.
new to this, and doing this because the service center at my local honda dealer has my car pulling like crazy after every rotation they do. will be doing it yesterday
As a teen I learned oil changes, brakes and the basics, but I didn't go beyond that until about 20 months ago when I joined the race team and started serious work on our e30. My edited video from July 2106 is the start of my new journey!
That's still seriously cool. I never thought I would be into cars until I hit 16-18 or so, then started to get pretty into it. Learned how to fix my own partially due to interest and partially necessity.
Great. I will say that when all lug nuts are torqued to spec, go around and check them all again. That way you catch anything you might have missed one the first go around. Oh, and a digital torque adapter is an excellent way to calibrate your torque wrench. You can get one at HF for $25 with coupon.
What if I jack up the right side up and switch the tires then jack the left side up and switch the tires, then jack the back up and switch the back tires?
So many tires are directional nowadays that proper traditional tire rotations are becoming a thing of the past. Not many would consider ever dismounting for a rotation, but it can be done with a seasonal swap if you use the same rims year round with summer/winter tires.
Good points. I think a lot of all season tires are not directional. Most performance cars have directional tires and if the setup is staggered, you can't rotate at all.
Asymmetric tires can be rotated traditionally. Agreed most all season tires are not directional. Something like an extra 20% tread life can be had with rotations and proper alignment.
I wish that other RU-vid Channels would spend this much time covering basic, ELI5 stuff the same way you do! Glad to be a member of the RevMatch family!
