I think this is such a great suggestion!! I do a spray protectant on all of my suede shoes and boots. I'm glad that you recommend protecting this fabric!! I have used "Scotchgard" on fabric before and I've never had a problem with discoloration. Thank you!
Aw Thanks! I love that you do this too. I wasn’t sure how others would feel about this but I’m glad I’m not alone 🥰 it makes me feel like the bag is a lot more practical when I do this since I’m not as concerned when using. I’ll likely spray any future fabric bags, especially totes
I just got my first canvas/fabric bag from dior and i am so nervous to wear it anywhere because im so afraid of staining it! your video is a life saver thank you so much for this! Do you just do the scotch-guard procedure once or do you repeat it every so often?
Do you know how spraying the bag affects the warranty? I‘m concerned about the orange/yellow glue oxidation defect that apparently can happen to Dior book totes and I‘m afraid they might blame the problem on the spraying to get out of the obligation to replace the bag within two years of manufacturing
Thanks so much for this video!! It was so hard to find a video about scotchgard for purses in general! (esp brand name purses). I wanted to try using it for my Nylon Longchamp bag and it says scotchgard will work but I've read reviews that it doesn't.. What do you think? Have you tried it on a nylon bag before?
Thank you so much for the video. Did the spray darken or change the texture or the feel of the bag even slightly? I once sprayed my grey swede Uggs with the water and stain repellant made by Ugg and the Swede got slightly darker and also became less soft. 💕
I know exactly what you mean! That has happed to me too! So, I think for both of these instances (touch and color) it’s the smallest differences that unless you were trying to spot them actively you wouldn’t notice. I haven’t sprayed the sides yet, since I haven’t had a chance and touching it now... there’s a slight difference in texture. But, I think this works for a Dior Oblique tote because it’s already not the softest to touch to begin with, so you don’t really notice it. And then with color, before you asked I didn’t notice any difference at all, but now I just scrutinized the front compared to the non-sprayed sides (doing that later today) and there’s like the smallest difference ever and only if I’m like staring up close at it trying to find a difference. Otherwise, not enough for me to even tell and I’m really trying to see a difference haha, so my short answer is yes but the slightest difference and I’d actually care if it was significant. That being said, only test out a part of the bag (like a bottom corner) that’s not really visible so you can make your own determination whether to do the whole bag. Hope this helps! ❤️
@@JulietPicard Thank you for letting me know. :) Maybe I can test the bottom of the inside of the bag 1st. When it came to my swede boots I was quite dissapointed as that shade of grey was so perfect and also the original soft texture was part of their beauty but like you said the book tote doesn't have a soft texture to begin with and if you really can't tell the color difference without having to inspect it than that is great!
Yes! I completely understand you. I think I was pretty upset with my ugg boots as well if I recall haha. But, glad you’ll test it out and make your own decision ❤️ also one last tip - the number of spray layers also changes the appearance so be careful to check color and texture between each layer if you decide to do this
I just bought the large Dior oblique book tote... the only problem I have is, some small loose threads on the letters... but I looked at 5 different totes and they all had loose threads on different areas on the bag, mostly on the letters... my SA said it is normal and to leave it alone... he also said that if the thread should loosen up more that I have a warranty on the bag and they would send it to Paris to get it repaired... so 🤔
Yes, sometimes loose threads are quite common. If your SA said that, then you should be okay. I'm sure if anything happens that makes the bag defective, they'd send it back for you. Congrats on your Book Tote 🖤
Hi Rachel! It's doing great. I'm actually currently using it on a trip to NY from LA. This is probably the 4th time I've traveled with it and no issues.
how about very hot coffee or chocalate? this stain can be removed by the spray or not?? I'm curious becoz I'm going to buy the tote soon but I want to protect it from dirty liquid like coffee.
Great question! I'm not sure. I'd do a water test and see if the fabric continues to repel the water after a year. And, if it does, then you should be okay. Otherwise, you can consider respraying, but I've not done this.
I thought about it! I wouldn’t be opposed. The reason why I didn’t is because just in case you sell others might not like, but if you plan to keep forever I’d def do it
Hi Kim! I’d say try a very small corner first to see if there’s a color change. Also, try to cover any non fabric with painter’s tape. This is optional but just an idea ❤️
It’s still in great condition. The handles I could see wearing down with more use but that would’ve happened regardless of spray/no-spray. They still look great tho. May consider getting twillies for the handles. Hope this helps!
Hi! Yes it’s very effective and stain resistant. I plan on doing this for any future Dior totes I buy as well, but please test a corner of fabric at the bottom to be sure you like it given it could slightly alter the color and texture of the fabric
Would this be the same spray you would recommend for the Lady Dior embroidery bags? I think it’s the same material as the book tote but wasn’t 100% sure.
Hi! I’m not sure I’ve seen that bag in person, but if it’s similar material then I’d say yes. Just double check by first reading product materials and always testing a less visible corner before committing to it. Lastly be sure to spray in an open area for proper ventilation. Hope that helps!
