Very helpful video. I've searched and searched online for detailed instructions on pruning Eucalyptus and this video is the ONLY source that truly broke down how to do it. Thank you!!

Glad it was helpful! Sorry there's no sound - it was VERY windy!

"To be suitable for coppicing the trunk should be at least 5cm in diameter" I have a E Camaldulensis that I planted as tubestock, turned out there was two in the tube. I've nipped the second one off about 5 times over the last year, even to the point where I grabbed it and twisted it until it broke off - nope, keeps growing back. I'm just going to let it grow now! The main tree is about 3m tall now so will be getting cut off this spring (I'm in Australia)

I love your video. I live in Las Vegas and I love eucalyptuses. It;s the fastest grwoing tree in our high desert climat. Likes our bad soil and the sun. We have three silver dollar tress in our backyard. But every time I pay for trimming I feel the job is done wrongly. Your video gives me confidence to start trimming our trees by myself. I want them be bushy and rich to the sides not the height. I have a question: how can I promote new brunches growth from the trank or from previously cut brunch?

Hi Anna, sorry I missed this. They need pruning during the middle of your Spring season - for us this is the middle of March but I'm not sure when that would be in Las Vegas. By 'Spring' I mean when the days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer. If you never dip below 5 degrees C then temperature isn't too much of a problem. Trim all of the branches on the tree - we call this giving it a 'hair cut!' otherwise it will continue to grow from uncut branches and leave the pruned ones bare. To encourage sprouting, ensure the tree is healthy - If you are doing a heavy prune and removing all of the leaves, you might need to leave it a year before pruning and feed it with a slow-release fertiliser to build up it's strength. Then water the tree regularly to encourage the buds to sprout. If you see pimples appearing after 6-8 weeks, it's worked! But don't touch them!

How would you manage eucalyptus trees to maximise the yield for firewood?

Hi mr mc. The simple answer is to coppice the trees on rotation. They will need adequate food, water and light, and be free from competition i.e. keep the weeds at bay! There's a guide to coppicing eucalyptus on our website www.hardy-eucalyptus.com/training-and-pruning ... Please do give us a call (we're in the UK) or email if you would like to chat further about your project :)

I have a 3-4’ Rainbow Eucalyptus that was sipped to me and the trunk has divided into two branches about 2’ up. Is this okay? Should we cut the smaller of the two branches or will the divide end up sorting self out later?
